Sorry only example of it I could find was the opening. Was funny as hell, but worked on every fear possible happening, and not happening. There is a couple episodes involving a plane crash got banned because of 9-11 will give you a clue about it.

Futurama, more preciesly, Jurassic Bark episode.

I assume you watched it, if not, you probably regret it... Anyway, in that episode, Fry (protagonist) finds a fossile of his dog from the year 2000. He tries to bring him back to life, meanwhile, we get to see a lot of scenes from their life - where they met, how did they spend time and play.

Then, Fry realises that his dog was fossiled at the age of 15 - so basically, he died 12 years after Fry was frozen. He knows that this dog wouldn't be happy, that he had a new life, new owners and has learned a lot new trick already...

But the truth was a lot sadder, and that makes me cry - the dog waited for Fry to come back, every single day, rain or snow, not moving from the place Fry worked at. God, why did I remind myself of how sad that was...

Yeah, that episode had me pretty choked up too.

....You suck. I had a dog for 18 years, and I had to have him put down. The same day, this episode came on. It's been almost two years, and I still cannot watch that episode without breaking down and crying like a little girl.

.....I miss my dog.

I think that I cry because I also have a pretty old dog. She's "only" 13 in few weeks, but she's after having problems with kidneys three times, then she had a seizure... You know how horrible that looks? My mom thought she was dead when she stopped seizing.

Be glad you got to enjoy your dog for over 18 years, I'll be lucky to have mine for another year or two tops.

Wolf's Rain is the most depressing cartoon/animated series I've ever watched. I refuse to watch it now, it used to be my favourite anime too.

It's one of my favourite movies and books. I thought the ending was more uplifting and sweet than sad.

I have to say that Grave of the Fireflies was the most depressing thing I've seen (besides that Kiwi! thing posted earlier). I saw that on a free day we had in History, and I couldn't get the images of burning bodies out of my head for the rest of the day.
