My idiot of a flat mate who came up to me while I was laughing at the fail of a vice president Sarah Palin blundering through an interview on abortion.

He comes up;

Flatmate; "What's so funny?"

Me; "Sarah Palin she is just stupid."

Flatmate; "what like George Bush?"

Me; "yeah. Have you seen any of his speeches?"

Flatmate; "yes but its only because the media emphasize it, have you seen any of his speeches before he made president? They where allot better."

Me; to shocked to answer back.

Flatmate; we talked about it in church.

I shake my head realizing he was being brain washed, idiot.

Of course if the leader of the free world is going to bumble so idiotically through all his speeches all the time and act like a complete fool the media are going to show it and make fun of it.

Face palm

I was talking to a friend about a week out from Easter when he asked me: "Is it Good Friday next Tuesday?"
It took him about five seconds to work out what he said before he worked out why we were all laughing.

My dad can be pretty ignorant. Hes really old fashion and religious, while I'm a free thinker and also religious.

Today he told me basically I'm wasting my life with social interactions on the computer. And Txting was making everyone stupid and disconnected.
He also told me hard work cures depression.

Both of those are actually valid points.
When I come to a family gathering and I see everyone on their phones texting other people instead of talking to the people at the fucking table, it drives me up the wall.

And the second statement is true in many cases of situational depression.
The feeling of success and a job well done (both earned through hard work) can pull someone out of their depression.
Now, to clarify; that would not be helpful with clinically diagnosed chronic depression.

"So we have a $13 trillion debt right now?"

"More or less."

"We have mints that print money, right?"

"Yes"

"So let's just whip up $13 trillion and be done with it!"

There is a certain logic to it, but it is not the level of logic an upperclassmen in high school.

i facepalmed heavily today when i ran into someone at a bus stop who insisted that the US won both WW1 and the korean war, ignoring the fact that no one actually won world war 1 at all (an armistance was signed that was heavily stacked in the allies favour), and that technically speaking the korean war is still ongoing, and the US pulled out of that after grinding into a stalemate suffering heavy losses and realising that general MacArthur was a lunatic

also, everything said by my grandad is so ignorant and/or offensive it is just not funny, a most benign example being insisting that EVERY vehicle in existence will operate just fine with a 2 litre 4 cylinder engine

The most extraordinary case of ignorance would probably be when I was in the seventh grade we had to research a person and then for one night dress up and pretend to be that person one of my friends decided to research Che Guevara and half way through the assignment(Which was a long one) the teacher told him Che Guevara was too violent, however she gave my other friend who was doing Napoleon Bonaparte the thumbs up. Lets check to see, Well would you look at that napoleon had(impersonally) killed over 6 million people, and Che was just too violent.

In my sociiology class we were given a description about a country (which turned out to be engalnd) but this description also included a geographical location which was, island nation just north of france, next to ireland and in the nothern hemisphere. the girl i was sitting next to asked me if it was Australia

People in this thread are ignorant to the fact that not everyone gets the same education and knowledge as them.

I didnt know what Bipolar was until i was 17.

And some people just forget how many days there are in a year, i dont see that as ignorance, its just they forgot by accident.

ITT: Get of your high horses.
/thread.

But humour is subjective, knowing the fact that some people don't posses the non-existent 'common knowledge' is crucial to life too and after that it'd be less dickish to laugh.

I'd probably laugh at some of those named situations but I'd tell them that it's alright and give them the correct answer.

To everyone saying that the OP stories aren't cases of ignorance, well you'd be wrong. According to the Oxford American Dictionary, ignorance is the lack of information. So to all statement which were ignorant to the definition of ignorance it would be safe to say the OP stories were cases of ignorance though not stupidity.

I once spent 5 minutes trying to spell Oreo while holding a package of Oreos >_>

The worst thing I witnessed was in a world history class. We had been talking about Russia for a few days, and the teacher asked someone to come up and point at Russia on a map.

The girl who got picked was just lost. first she stared at the map. She said she didn't know, so the teacher asked her to point out Asia. She didn't know where Asia was. So the teacher asked her to point to where we are? To which she responded, "I don't see California." She had no shame in not knowing the world map.

Which was strange because she wasn't an idiot. She was really good at science.

Just about everytime I see Fox News on at an in-law's house they're saying something completely devoid of intelligence.

To make matters worse, the in-laws just sit there and nod their heads at it.

hmmm...ignorance with regards to a lack of attention (or ignoring) other cultures and people would probably be a youtube comment in which somebody who I really hope was just a troll was trying to genuinely explain to people that the overriding majority of muslims were trying to blow up peace-loving americans. Yeah, he was a douche (I obeyed rule 14 and left him to it).

ignorance with regards to ignoring the world around you, i.e. stupidity, would be a girl working in a bar I was working a few weeks ago, she was a waitress and came onto the bar, looking at the soda guns and bottles in my speed rail then asks me "where's the tap water?". After laughing for a good 5 minutes I explained in the nicest way I could that the tap water was in the taps, and that she should probably take a second to think about what she's doing before she bothers the bar staff with stupid questions. Lovely girl, though.

Also, Fox news is the most ignorant thing I've ever seen, and I win this thread.
God damn, he's right. He does win the thread. :( SIGH!

OT: I'd say a youtube video that was posted on these forums (that I can't seem to find right now) that has the stereotype of "stupid Americans" right in its spotlight. A man interviews several americans, and asks them basic you-should-know-this questions, and we marvel in their ignorant responses. If you know the video, you should help me out, and post it.
