I know that the idea of people choosing or not choosing to be gay is a controversial topic, but i think this guy was way out of line.

Some someone at my school ranted to me that he believes, quote, "The idea of gay people was created by the government. No one is really gay, gay people are just like the tooth fairy or santa claus. Also, people who are gay like the attention and there really is no such thing as gay hatred, it is all made up by democrats."

I'm sorry but i think ignorance is anyone who thinks that, 1 the government would somehow morph people into a sexuality, 2 that people who are gay actually want attention, 3 there is no such think as gay (yes he did contradict himself on the who idea if there actually are people who are gay), and 4 that somehow one party would "create" homosexuality...

Fun fact: The Bible records homosexual behavior about 5000 years ago. I wonder if the guy you're talking about realizes the Democrats didn't exist back then.

Last year (I'd like you to keep in mind that the person in question was, at the time, 17) during a free geography class, someone who happened to be in my maths class was doing some homework. He got stuck on a probability question which had something to do with the probability of two people being born on a standard year (i.e. not a leap year). He proceeded to, without the slightest bit of shame, raise his hand and ask "Sorry, sir? How many days are in a year?"

Just this week, my friend (18 years old) was confused by the fact that there are 12 months.

He was sure there were 10....

I worry about him.

This happened on the way to Tesco near my 6th form with some friends, I was listening to some Jimi Hendrix because of the The Jimi Hendrix Experience binge I'd been on then and this started ...

Me: "Damn, this song is fucking awesome."

Amy: "What song is it?"

I have a friend who was really into classic rock and used to play the guitar a lot, and I mean a lot. Most of the time I went over to his house he had blood on his fingers from playing the guitar for hours. Then, one day while hanging out with me and some other friends he tried on some sunglasses, and I told the they made him look a lot like John Lennon. "Who's John Lennon?" He responded... Not exactly beating yours, but still...

There's also a kid in my school who constantly bragged about being the smartest and best student in our grade. On our first day of Biology in 9th grade he asked the teacher what sand ate...

This made me laugh XD 'What sand ate?' wtf XD.

I was in an art class once and we had to draw various objects that describe us. I am a Godzilla fan so I preceded to draw my favorite monster. A couple of minutes later someone came up and asked what I was drawing. I said it was Godzilla and they said I was using the wrong color. When I asked what they meant the said "Godzilla is green not black." I had some good laughs for that.

When I was a sophomore in high school we were talking about Jews and Religion in History class, and this girl could not understand the difference that you can be Jewish by blood or by religion, that was funny.

My friend also claimed he was half-catholic.

Same friend had no idea who Samson and Delilah was.

To be 100% honest I didn't know what Sodomy was until about a month ago. I knew it had to do with Rape but I didn't know how it was different then just saying rape.

You're misinformed. Sodomy is just anal sex, or to be completely technical, any sexual act considered "unnatural" by a particular jurisdiction.

Oh well understandably the only time I've heard it used is when its to punish someone. So I just assumed.

Actually in the bible sodomy is any sexual act without the reason being procreation. In law it's used to be any "unnatural" sex, basically meaning the same thing based on the country.

I have a friend who says that the Quran (or is it Qu'ran? I've seen it both ways) says to kill anybody who isn't Muslim. We even have a bet for $10 on it. The sad part is, I can't find a credible source that proves that it doesn't say it.

When I had to do a debate speech on the big bang and evolution, I "lost" the debate because I couldn't rebuttal. The person who opposed my idea used the bible as his only reference and claimed "the suns were here before the big bang so it doesn't make any sense" I shit you not.

Just last semester, some kid decided it would be a good idea to read "Crime and Punishment" for a book report.
this was literally what he said when he read it in front of the class:

"So, uh, I really couldn't understand it past page 27,so I just stopped reading it. It's about this guy who, um..."

I was shocked that someone could be so fucking dumb.

Also, here's a good one my grandma told me:
She went to a catholic school to pass out fliers about an archeological exhibit coming to the high school, and went to the principal's office. The exhibit showed that people had been in the area much earlier than previously thought, and the secretary's reply was something along the lines of "Well, of course we were. We were around when the dinosaurs were".

The best examples of ignorance shown here are those people, who even when shown the evidence to their lack of knowledge, still refuse to accept the truth of the situation. All I would like to add to this is ... Shame on you. Don't you know that these people were put on earth to be exploited. If you have ever dreamed of having your own cult or extremist party these are the people you need to get such an organization in motion. Who knows you could be the leader of the next scientology, especially if your followers are rich and stupid.

How about trying the Qur'an (Correct spelling by the way. Though Koran is also acceptable according to the NY times) I am sure the answer would be in there somewhere!
