Super Space War 2071: Call of Reach 2

You play a badass elite operative of a shady organization that won't be elaborated on until the 5th sequel, that is only called upon major emergencies that ironically happen every year or so. Yet an unknown alien race with a group of leaders that only appear in cutscenes have made it a point to threaten the survival of all (insert race that happens to look exactly like humans, but aren't).

Now, you, armed with only a primary and secondary weapon, supplied by vast amounts of money that enemies seem to carry around even though it isn't their currency, and your badass (A. group of extremely muscular men or B. Alien vigilante partner) must do what they are told by the black dude (that dies at the end) and kill this threat to the exact degree that it will come back for 3 more sequels.
Why do developers always program the black characters to hit the Die button late in the game?
Cause it's generic like that.

While not the most generic of games, Crysis is the one that sticks out most to me. "I'm a super powered marine. Kill Chinese, then aliens. Win game."

One more try for now.

Collision-the game of the concept:
Object A violates the personal Space of Object B, Object B objects, causing Object B to strike back! It goes on until someone wins.
The End.

Generic enough for you yet?

For me, the most generic game I could create would have to be a broody hero (with nothing to be broody about), his fan-service-y love interest who's completely useless and dies at the end, her missing little brother who has some strange power hidden inside of him, creepy twins who are actually just trying to help, and a Scooby-Doo ending ("And I would have gotten away with it, too, if it weren't for you pesky kids...!").

Oh, and Nazi zombies. Or ninjas. Or ninja-zombies.

Anything from Artix Entertainment. All of it is totally pwn, fail and generic at the same time.

Here it is: throw originality out of the window and give me your version of the most generic game that could exist. There are many ways to be generic, so be creatively uncreative. Details to include: plot (if necessary), main character, supporting characters, antagonist, gameplay mechanics, and anything else that makes your game (not) special.

A lot of you play a lot more games in many more genres than I do, so I'm interested in the Generic Game (and its sequels) for the different genres. I'll be working on my own in the meantime.

Edit: the idea is for you to come up with one made by you
You play as a space marine called Marcus Drake whose wife was killed by an ancient cult conspiring to take over the world. He swears vengeance and to kill anyone involved. He is accompanied by his black best friend who teaches him the meaning of friendship, and is guided by his aloof big brother, who tells you what to do via a voice with an internet connection. Late in the game, your older brother betrays you and kills your friend after it turns out he is the one responsible for everything. After Marcus shouts 'NOOOOOOOOOOO!' at the top of his lungs, the brothers fight over a lava pit, entirely in quick-time events.
After defeating him, Marcus saves the world by crashing his ship into the bad guy base, sacrificing himself. TEH ENDZ!!!1!

PN 03, one of the worst purchases I ever made for my GameCube...
That game! My god, it was truly awful but something about it made me buy it again only the other day for my cube. I think i just liked spinning in between lazers to an unhealthy extent.

Some part of me also wants them to do a sequel (i know, i know, its never gonna happen) but make the game with a little care and not just use the same level over and over!

You're some beefy-ass guy with loads of guns and power armor, fighting aliens and Nazis and terrorists in bombed-out cities and metal corridors. Crates and exploding barrels litter the terrain. The box has a catchy two-word title with a silhouette of the main character aiming an assault rifle.
Done.

You're a space-marine on an alien planet. You never talk. There's some nattering in your ear about your mission and backstory and plot advancement but playtesting made the dev team mix it down so it didn't get in the way of the awesome super cool shooting. Your weapons are the piss poor pistol, the assualt rifle, and a bunch of useless crap you'll never use because you only get ammo for the assualt rifle anyway. The villain has no motives or claims of greatness, he's evil "for the lulz." He also kills your marine partner or something, I wasn't really listening to that natter a while back. If anyone ever speaks it's a one-liner, or something ironic before they die: "at least it can't get any worse!" being a particular zinger the crack team of writer's came up with.
And for the inevitable sequel: see above, only this time with a chance to use a grappling hook once every 5 hours. Innovation at it's finest!

I think most Escapist users need to read a dictionary and look up the word "generic" before replying.

If you can instantly tell what the game is by looking at a screen shot, it's not exactly generic.

Plot: You are an ordinary American soldier who seems to be recognised more by his sergeant than anybody else in your squad, despite the same rank as everyone else.

You are fighting a war against the Russians/Arabs to stop them launching nuclear attacks/terrorist attacks upon the whole world.

Gameplay style: 'Modern day' FPS

Oh wait, I forgot infinity ward has already made it

Oh well...

Every FPS except for Bioshock and TF2.
What about Condemned 2: Bloodshot. That one is off the beaten path
I don't really consider that one to be an FPS. It's more survival horror.
Truuuuuue
But it is a point of view game that features shooting.
So are Portal and Metroid Prime, but they are also not FPSes.

Gears of War. Angry space marines team up to hide behind walls and destroy everything that looks slightly different from themselves.
But that game gave us cover-based shooting, didn't it?

For the record, my vote for most generic game ever goes to The Saboteur, for building a game completely out of tried-and-true gameplay and story elements and somehow making them suck.
Killswitch had cover-based shooting years before Gears.
