This. Also, be advised if you try to search for pictures, it's disturbing.

Also, this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harlequin_type_ichthyosis

Again, viewer discretion is advised.

Not to mention metabolic diseases that can get you killed or give you irreversible brain damage if you spend a few hours without eating of if you eat a little too much protein or sugar, etc

Leprosy.
That is all.
This.
I think leprosy is the worst since it can make you disabled permanently, and there is still about 4% of the population infected in Africa - plus, it can be avoided simply by increasing someone's quality of life (clean water, food, shelter).

Spanish flu, if I remember correctly it killed 'bout as many as the black death in less time.

Alzheimer's is probably the worst imo.

That disease where you grow old in a matter of 10-20 years, truly horrific.
Worse is the fact that you begin to forget people you knew and loved for the last 30-50 years. You also become stupider with every passing day, as your braincells are dying. Finally, your brain dies... Thank God that at least death isn't as painful as in other terminal diseases.

That's why I hope Pratchett will get cured...
I truly is horrible, on a biological level as well as psychological. Are you sure the brain cells die? I thought they just went inert.

Who, or what, is this Pratchett?

epidermolysis bullosa, means your outer and inner layers of skin arent attached properly, meaning that basically if you touch anything it leaves huge blisters on your skin and also you have to get your fingers and toes removed.

Meningitis:

Comes on within a matter of hours
If you notice it early, there's still around a 20% chance you'll die
Of all sufferers, roughly 1/3 die, 1/3 suffer from a serious disability (including deafness and paralysis), and 1/3 are fine
The lining of your brain swells, compressing your brain (hurts like hell)
Lose control of your bowels
Can't really turn your neck around any axis
High occurence of vomiting (very high)
My brother was supposedly 'terminal' with meningitis several years ago and I was only just old enough to realise he was going to die. He didn't however. All he has remaining is a slight heart murmur.

The most horrible disease..... is man! (see what I did there?)

Non twattish responses aside... Ebola is pretty nasty.

"Ebola may progress to cause more serious symptoms, such as diarrhea, dark or bloody feces, vomiting blood, red eyes due to distension and hemorrhage of sclerotic arterioles, petechia, maculopapular rash, and purpura. Other, secondary symptoms include hypotension (low blood pressure), hypovolemia, and tachycardia. The interior bleeding is caused by a reaction between the virus and the platelets that produces a chemical that will cut cell-size holes into the capillary walls.

On occasion, internal and external hemorrhage from orifices, such as the nose and mouth, may also occur"
That was the disease I was going to say, it truly is a horrifying and deadly disease

Necrotizing fascitis. Bacteria escape from your gut and start to digest you. the only cure is to cut out every infected area.

vCJD and I quote for Wiki:

The first symptom of CJD is rapidly progressive dementia, leading to memory loss, personality changes and hallucinations. This is accompanied by physical problems such as speech impairment, jerky movements (myoclonus), balance and coordination dysfunction (ataxia), changes in gait, rigid posture, and seizures. The duration of the disease varies greatly, but sporadic (non-inherited) CJD can be fatal within months or even weeks (Johnson, 1998).
I wouldn't like to get mad cow disease tbh :(

Ebola.
You bleed from every orifice, your organs liquidize, except for your stomach which you cough up. Then, just to finish you off, you have a seizure as you die, and spray highly-contagious blood onto everyone within distance.

Any of these. http://healthmad.com/conditions-and-diseases/the-most-horrible-diseases-ever-to-tremble-the-world/

Some of them are shocking.

Edit: If you're of a sensitive nature I do not reccommend looking at these images.

I don't know if fatal diseases should count. They all kill you, so picking which one is worst really is based which killed the most people which hardly makes it horrible, just devastating. Shouldn't the severity of the disease be measured by how much it impacts your life, rather than how many people it affects?

That said, anal cyst is the worst thing I know of. If you don't get it taken care of you essentially can't sit down, lay on your back, or walk unless you want all the nerves in the base of your spine going off. This may not sound like the worst thing in the world to you, but there's no way to really realize you need the surgery until it starts hurting like hell. Then, to get it removed, you have a huge gash above your asshole so you can't shit unless you jam a tube up your ass and you still can't walk, sit down or lie on your back until the wound heals up, which you have to prevent from happening in the wrong way by stuffing bandaging in the wound everyday.

And on top of all that, you can get it again and again and again...

Now I know that this isn't as bad as AIDS, cancer, black death, or any of the plethora of diseases mentioned, since it isn't fatal which takes the edge off, but isn't leaving you alive to come back and fuck you up over and over again bad too?

Ebola is a horrible disease. Only curable if given treatment four days after first symptons. It is highly infectious. Symptoms are varied and often appear suddenly. Initial symptoms include high fever, severe headache, muscle, joint, or abdominal pain, severe weakness, exhaustion, sore throat, nausea, dizziness, internal and external bleeding. Before an outbreak is suspected, these early symptoms are easily mistaken for malaria, typhoid fever, dysentery, influenza, or various bacterial infections, which are all far more common and reliably less fatal. Ebola may progress to cause more serious symptoms, such as diarrhea, dark or bloody feces, vomiting blood, red eyes due to distension and hemorrhage. Thank you wikipedia.

SWINE FLU!

The media tells me that this is the worst thing to happen to man kind since the black plague!

...

Seriously though... what are we basing this on? % of getting said disease? The terrible pain of the disease, or any number of other things? The chances of getting a disease are high... the reasons it is terrible are up for debate.

Testicular cancer. Just thought I'd lift the mood a little.
Or any cancer, for that matter.

I think you deserve a slap for not knowing sir Pratchett.

I think that they do die. At least, your cerebral cortex is getting smaller, as you lose your neurons and synapses. Also few of the lobes are degenerating.
