I can't remember anything specific that has happened to my own jewelry, but I did once land elbow-first with most of my bodyweight on a friend's crotch during jiu jitsu practice. He disappeared into the locker-room for the rest of the lesson.

The worst that's happened to me was getting a baseball thrown into my scrotum.

However, my friend got kicked in his penis last year, and it turned out that the force had pretty much split his dick in half, long way. It was stitched, and people proceeded to snicker about it for months.

Even with a jockstrap that hurts like hell. I sparred my best friend once, and he kicked me in the nuts. I'm glad I had the cup on. I'd probably no longer be a man otherwise...
