I nominate Lady Yunalesca from FFX. Is she the toughest boss? No. But she tricked me. Remember how she likes to use a new attacks with each transformation? Well Her second stage form likes to use Hellbiter to damage and turn them into zombies. Not a big deal until she casts Cura and Regen on them. Time to cure the zombie status, right? And then comes phase 3.
MEGADEATH! Your whole party is now dead. Too bad you didn't leave them as zombies, they would have been immune.

Playing Kingdom Hearts long before I had played any other final fantasies, and trying out the platinum match.
My first question was who the guy with the ridiculously long sword was, second question was how did I die so quickly
So, it was Cloud, right?
I'm interested, what is this Platinum Match thing, and what happened? (I've never played Kingdom Hearts, and didn't know it was Final Fantasy.)
Pretty sure you now know that the Platinum match is against Sephiroth the villain from Final Fantasy 7. What people are not telling you is why it is so hard.
It's a one on one fight and Sephiroth walks as fast as Sora, the main character, runs. Your first couple attacks won't even do damage. I'm not sure if this is because Sephiroth is flat out immune or if he has more HP than the system can show you. His basic attacks do massive damage and which can bring even a high level character down fast and he does them very fast and then retreats (making a counter impossible). Let's not forget his explosion attack which takes up a quarter of the field, he only gives a quick vocal warning for, and can decimate you if you are caught in the middle of it. And if you actually manage to get a small combo on him, he teleports behind you.
And, then, he gets serious. He starts to run and use a massive combo that can easily kill you. And don't forget "Heartless Angel". That WILL kill you if it hits. Fortunately, you can use an ability that will allow you to survive deathblows with 1 HP so it's not that bad. Of course, if you do survive the attack, it drains all you MP. He starts summoning meteors and has them float around for a moment and follows that with an explosion that you can't escape (it hits the whole battlefield). He eventually starts creating orbs of light that surround and close in on Sora, and he likes to combine that with his sword strikes and even his running. And he only adds to his list of attacks. So once he starts using Heartless Angel, he'll keep using it for the remainder of the fight. Every attack he uses from the beginning are still being actively used, so you never really know what to expect. He's a pain, to say the least.
Don't get me wrong. He is very beatable. It just takes knowledge of his attacks, decent stats, and the skill to pull it off. Honestly, I fought him all the way to level 100. You're basically guaranteed to level up every time you beat him.
