I've been told operation flashpoint is like that, but haven't played it myself.
In personal experience, the closest thing I can think of is blacklight: tango down, aside from all the futuristic technology, which is all made up to be pretty believable...well, that and the odd mutants from the black ops mode. The shooting itself feels fairly realistic, headshots ALWAYS kill, and just a few shots to the body will be enough to put someone down, with limb shots doing only a little less damage.
If it were to work it'd have to be 100% realistic, I for one would be kind of annoyed if all that was right and I still couldn't get over a waist high fence because the game doesn't want me to. It it was truly realistic, it'd be awesome though.
Slightly off-topic, why do people keep saying MW2 is realistic? It really, really isn't.
OFPR hardly lives up to its predecessor in terms of realism or gameplay. CM doesn't even support it anymore, and they know as well as many fans of the franchise that it was simply a convenient way to cash in on Operation Flashpoint's (once) good name to make a quick buck to develop something else with.
How would you feel about a game that was in credibly realistic. A game where if you got shot i a certain part of your body. BAM. youre dead. if you get shot in the foot and you leave a trail of blood for the bad guys to find and hunt you down and kill you. where when you take cover you cant see what is round the corner due tothe camer but can only see infront of you. where if you come under heavy fire you start shaking and when youre firing you cant aim as weel. a game where you cant throw down a health pack and youre fixed. SOunds good or something that will annoy you.
The following is somehting I pulled from another post of mine along the same lines. I did not want to link it because there is a lot of other quasi-useless stuff on the page. I edited some stuff out because it was in response to someone else's question.
VBS2 resources for reference - NOTE: NOT ALL OF THESE ARE PRESENT IN ARMA GAMES! DO NOT EXPECT TO GET YOUR HANDS ON A US COPY ON VBS2! IT WAS DEVELOPED BY DARPA AND IS RESTRICTED TO MILITARY PERSONNEL!

- Expect a very realistic experience. One bullet is all it takes to put you down (most of the time), and you will find yourself banging your head against your keyboard from time to time out of frustration. JUST STICK WITH IT! Take it from me. Just say, "Manhattan," to anyone that has played ArmA 2 and you will likely hear a long story of much hardship and pain, or better yet, "Dogs of War."
- The community is TOP NOTCH! Everyone there will always provide feedback if you have a problem or want some advice on how to approach a mission. There are TONS of tweak guides, and plenty of modders always willing to lend a helping hand. I can't stress this enough!
- THE EDITOR IS FANTASTIC! Very little knowledge is needed about mission scripting or design in order to use the extremely robust built-in mission editor. Many 'ArmAholics' use the game for the sole purpose of creating scenarios. Many don't even touch the campaign. You can lose yourself in it for years on end. I know I have.
- There are TONS of community made mods, addons, and campaigns out there to be downloaded for free by anyone who wants them. The beauty of an ArmA game is its flexibility and ability to be customized!
Here's a little pre-release teaser to give you an idea of how gameplay works in Operation Arrowhead. I will also provide a video from the original ArmA 2. These will contain spoilers BTW!

Other than that, there's probably just room for maybe one super-realistic war shooter like MW2. Any more and people would get frustrated/ask for the ability to go Gordon Freeman on enemy's asses.
That's what I used to think as well. Then I realized that not only can you escape reality with them, but you can put yourself into realistic situations that you'd otherwise never experience.
There's no way I'd ever fly an airplane. Flight simulators(which are generally very realistic) allow me to experience that.
OT: I'd love to play a game like that. I see no reason why I should have to shoot people 3 times in the head to put their brains on walls.
After awhile, though, it would probably get boring, like most games.

I think it could make a good game. Of course if its implimented correctly. The big thing for me would be the AI. Thats the tricky part. But the other side of the coin is, why don't you just join the military if your that achin for some realism? Or go to your local shooting range and pop off a few? Or go paintballing, yeah its expensive, but its fun!
realism? that isnt realism. show me a shooter that dosent let you immediatly die, but writhe in pain while you steadilly lose all your vitalfluids. show me a shooter that isnt tunnel-vision first person. WE HAVE PERIPHAL VISION. AND HEARING. show me a shooter where you have to calibrate your sights every now and again. realism makes a bad game. give me sci fi any day
