How would you feel about a game that was in credibly realistic. A game where if you got shot i a certain part of your body. BAM. youre dead. if you get shot in the foot and you leave a trail of blood for the bad guys to find and hunt you down and kill you. where when you take cover you cant see what is round the corner due tothe camer but can only see infront of you. where if you come under heavy fire you start shaking and when youre firing you cant aim as weel. a game where you cant throw down a health pack and youre fixed. SOunds good or something that will annoy you.

it sounds good for a stealth game in my opinion with the blood trails and all that, on easy make it so you can get shot twice in the vitals and die and AI isnt as smart, normal is pretty much what you put, and hard means you have no hud, no crosshairs and the map only reveals locations youve been to, i reckon it could work.

Now THAT would annoy me. Honestly, I find the degree of "realism" in shooters these days annoying.

I miss the days of emptying entire clips into opponents, and they were still only half dead...

Other than the shaking thing, that sounds more or less like the original Operation Flashpoint, it wasn't that annoying once you figured out how to play.

So Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45?

That game you get cross hairs, when you shoot the bolt action rifle, you have to press fire again to 'work the bolt' anywhere you get shot probably will kill you. When you hop into a tank it literally takes 3 people to operate. 1 to drive, 1 to man the turret, 1 to man the machine gun.

Red Orchestra is arguablly one of the most realistic games out there. But because it is so realistic, the learning curve is like a 90 degree angle.

This. Definately for a Stealth game a la Splinter Cell.

As Yahztee put, in a truly realistic war shooter you would run out onto the battlefield, get shot and either bleed out or spend the next while in a make-shift hospital.

That's why I bought Serious Sam off Ebay. It's still not that great though...

I think they should start off something like this with a robot combat game. There was this XBLA/Steam game where you play a robot and everything is physics based, including everything in the robot. Then throw in physics based weapons, and go wild with that, having the consequences be natural. We're still quite a long time away from realistically modeling the human body.

In theory I really like the idea. It reminds me of the Hardcore mode that is going to be in Fallout: New Vegas. It would be difficult but whenever you made it through a particularly hard part, you could get such a great feeling from it.

The whole "Medkit" thing that is mentioned was done in Farcry 2. You get to watch your character shove bullets out of their body and wrap themselves up in the middle of a fight.

As for the rest, dying may be TOO easy, but the whole hunting/killing would be awesome. IF you could program it well enough to DO that.

Also, the camera thing is called first person perspective. It is everywhere.

It sounds good. i have thought up similar ideas with friends for a realistic fps. It might be fun if playing with friends and actually talking and strategizing. A PvP wouldnt be very good imo as youll die to quicky and probably will turn into a camp fest.

Somthing like 4-6 player Co-op would be brilliant for this kind of game.

In a realistic war FPS, you would hit the enemy once with every 3 clips or so, and the enemy would show their heads in fear of getting shot until you stop to reload then just when they get up to have a look BOOM HEADSHOT

Anyways, no. I fucking despise the amount of "realism" in games today. Games aren't supposed to be realistic, if I wanted to experience war then I would sign up for the military.

I believe a certain element of "realism" would be lost unless you had people who had been in armed fire fights who were also programmers.
