The Vashda Narada from that episode of Doctor Who. If you step into a shadow, they've already eaten you...

Yeah... Tie between the Vashta Nerada, the Daleks, the Cybermen, and for a change of pace, the Reaver(s) from Firefly.

those zombie things in rayman 3. well it isnt scary but you have a reason to freakout while getting chased by invincible guys that big. but if your talking more in the horror genre i say those hanging boxed body things in silent hill 2.

.. Have you all seen The Thing? :p
whatever that ..thing.. is.
Oh God, thanks for bringing up repressed memories.

I used to have nightmares about that amorphous demon for years when I was younger.

Somehow, I always ended up being eaten.
aw, really?
I'm a horror movie junkie, but movies can't scare me.. I find horror movies pretty hilarious actually :p
Yea, this was before I started watching Terminator, Hollow Man, and The Shining- movies that expanded my fear/comfort zone, yet effectively killed my dreams.

Now the only dreams I remember having involve Left 4 Dead, with my friends as the three other survivors. Now if that doesn't scream fanboy, I don't know what does.

Zerg (tyranids are rip offs in my eyes so they don't count) they take over planets and devour the natural life forms so they can reproduce them as genetically enhanced fighting machines...and also there are only a small tribe of alien warriors that can actually destroy the zerg leader (a giant biological mass called "the overmind" who commands all zerg and makes them evolve) and even if they do destroy the overmind, some of the lower commanders (smaller biological masses called "cerebrates" who command the divisions of the zerg force) can reform themselves into a new overmind.
and let's not forget that a single hive cluster (where the zerg are spawned from) managed too destroy 3 armies of terrans (humans) and protoss (aliens) due to the incredible reproductive abilities of zerg. a hive cluster spawns up to 3 larvae that can evolve into any of the zerg life forms, and if they are spawned into zerglings (standard zerg attack unit, equal to a fully geared marine) a single larvae produces 2 zerglings.

Isn't it the Ssi-Ruuk? Of the Ssi-Ruuvian empire? And come on, the Yuuzhan Vong had them beat for crazy and scary real easy.
The Ssi-Ruuk are pretty scary, but I have to agree that the Yuuzhan Vong are scarier.
True, when I posted this I totally spaced out on the Yuuzhen Vong, they are really scary (their organic technology gave a giant ***** slap to the galaxy, they tourture and mutilate them selves for pleasure and sacrafice people)

Sooooo yea I'm agreeing that the Vong were way more scary.

I say Tyranids. I originally hated them because they reminded me of the Zerg
You mean the Zerg remind you of Tyranids.

But I'd have to say either Tyranids or the Flood. Maybe the Daleks, but it's a stretch.
The Tyanids were eating worlds and tabletop armies a decade before the Zerg showed up in Starcraft. Come to think of it, Starcraft ripped off the Space Marines, Eldar and Tyranids from Warhammer 40k.

For me, it's also gotta be the Tyranids, either that or the Hounds of Tindalos. Jesus christ those things scare me.
The hounds of Tindalos are definately in contention. I'd go with the Nightgaunts, though. There's something extra-special scary about a faceless horned imp who grabs you, lifts you into the air on leathery wings, and then uses the razor-sharp barb at the end of its tail to tickle you-- creating a sense of terror unease and violation.

The Haunter of the Dark is a pretty good one too.

Tyranids or Necrons. Being flayed doesnt sound like it would be the most attractive of deaths...

Daleks. EXTERMINATE!

EDIT: Crap, double posted by accident. To make up for it, I'll also nominate The race of penis creatures I made in Spore.

Your implying that the zerg from starcraft were created before the tyranids.......
But warhammer 40k was brought out in the early 80s as were the tyranids.

Haha, almost every dream I can remember having in the past half a year had to do at least slightly with a game..
as for fanboying, half of the reason I still have been playing Far Cry 2 lately is because I'm obsessed with Josip Idromeno Dx he's such a fucking badass.

The Space Marines also from Warhammer 40K.... oh wait they are just annoying.

Okay seriously most terrifying race has to go to the Vogons from Hitchhikers guide to the galaxy... why?
Because they are an entire galactic army of accountants and I hate accountants.
<--- Accountant
Hey! Thats not fai... yeah, okay. Especially since I'm a government accountant *ducks*.

Are you sure a galactic army of Lawyers wouldn't be worse?

OT: A lot that have been mentioned, I haven't encountered before, but by definition sound pretty nasty. As from what I've seen in fiction... and as far as most threatening... the Reapers. They've wiped out all civilization in a galaxy countless times. It's not about enslaving, transforming, resources, or turning you into one of them. It's about you being made dead, and everything else that you know.

Though things like zombies, the flood, etc... where your reanimated loved ones are trying to kill you, and you have to "kill" them, even though they aren't really themselves anymore, that's more "terrifying".
