Mamayev Kurgan

A futuristic warship concocted for a scifi novel I started to write a while back, in which humanity is governed by a sort of UN on steroids. Earth itself retains some international characteristics in terms of distinguishing corporations by what is at that time called the region of the Earth. For instance, the Lockheed Martin F-78 Striker is the standard human space/atmospheric dominance fighter, made in the region of... actually I can't call it the United States. Anyway, you get the idea.

The Mamayev Kurgan is the latest member of the Russian designed Kursk-class of battle carriers, which are basically larger space "battleships" that are also designed to ferry troops. Basically, they are powerful naval combat platforms, but they can also contribute some troops to the combat on a planet, while acting as orbital bombardment platforms. Each of the Kursk-class ships is named after a battle from the Eastern Front of WWII, in honor of those who died, though Mamayev Kurgan is the name of the hill just outside of Stalingrad where intense fighting took place for control of the highest point in the city, from which German guns would be able to hit every point in Stalingrad.

It is powered by two large tokomak-style fusion generators. The ship is propelled by four large primary thrusters and nine smaller secondary thrusters, all of which are high powered ion propulsion engines. It also boasts a hyperdrive capable of making the jump from Earth to Proxima Centauri, approximately 4 light years, in about 2 hours. Without the use of its hyperdrive, the Mamayev Kurgan is restricted to a top travel speed of around 0.2C (20% the speed of light) for reasons of fuel conservation. Fuel for the hyperdrive, in this case being various antimatter materials and other things that can be used to bend the fabric of space time according to our needs, can last, in a sustained jump, almost 2 months.

The ship is protected by dual cold plasma shield "generators" which, in truth, make plasma from pre existing matter, then eject it into space and hold it in place using high powered electromagnets. If the shields fail, the ship can rely on almost a full meter of high strength metal alloys and composite polymers to act as a resilient shield against kinetic and heat energies. The ship itself is based around a honeycomb structure, so it is physically sturdy.

The Mamayev Kurgan is manned by 1000 crew members, and is home to 220 marines, as well as 170 fighter and bomber pilots, and 320 maintenance crew. The ship is capable of ferrying another 3,500 troops to the "frontline" on any planet within range.

Weapons systems include long range heavy plasma cannons, short range plasma guns for taking out fighters and bombers, long range anti-ship torpedoes, anti-aircraft missile systems, missile-interception defense systems, and 160 aircraft, plus up to 15 short range boarding vessels. The ship's heaviest weapons are massive gauss cannons that use magnets to sling 420mm shells at high speeds. The Mamayev Kurgan has a maximum effective attack range of around 800km.

Aside from the eyes of crewmen from each of the three bridges, the warship can detect other objects using a set of powerful wide spectrum devices that can pick up radiation ranging from radio to gamma rays in order to detect approaching enemy ships. The ship's powerful computers can pick up and identify individual warships accurately and effectively from about 1200km.
...Did you just use a wall of text to describe a SHIP?

Good lord, man...it's sound epic.
I feel really really really bad for saying this. But it must be said. I loved your description of the ship but there is one slight... Flaw. Even including the soliders its taking this thing would have about as many men as are on a normal aircraft carrier. You need to up the crew members ^.^

That said.

FUCKING EPIC.
The story takes place in 2319 and 2320. The ship will be, for a large part, computerized. It is controlled by AI that are, of course, not autonomous, but rather act passively to keep functions of the ship up and running with accordance to man-made and man-administered algorithms, task, and whatnot.

I have to say.... Now I want to see what it looks like in a drawing or illustration, how much time did you put in coming up with it?
It was actually a long period of time. I'm just ending Sophomore year now (high school), and the concept of the ship was born with the story when I first started it toward the end of eight grade, yet the Mamayev Kurgan and her general loadout were only recently finalized.

And I will do my best to illustrate it for you.

I'd call mine the Hispaniola, named for the ship in Treasure Island.

I dunno what it would be used for, but I'd like it to be pretty small and simple enough to pilot/maintain on my own. I reckon it would be a real mess inside, like an intergalactic bachelor pad. I'd sleep in a hammock...

I would name my ship "She's one of ours Sir", and paint in on the side in large friendly letters. She would of course be an attack ship.

A Arourian Abomination (cookie for reference!) Named "under the burning sky" (another cookie for someone who can figure this one out) it would be for defending the honor of house Heraan (and a third cookie).

I'd give it a girls name like...... Ashley or Sarah or something. Rue the day when your mighty armada is vanquished by Ashley!!!!!! It would be pink too... just to add a little salt to the wound.
wouldn't that make it the number one target in battle? both for foes and friends ?(I'm talking about being pink of course)

I know that that I'd shoot down any combat ship painted pink. Regardless of allegiance

Nah, anyone with the stones to rock the pink starship proudly is either.

1- A total badass and knows it.
2- Captaining a pleasure barge.
3- Color blind
4- Just Plain Blind
Which would bring up the question of how did he get a ship?

I would name my ship the 'Coyote's Dream'

The purpose of my ship would be exploration and possibly some trading on the side.. It would however be able to hold it's own in a fight somewhat, relying more on its speed and maneuverability then the strength of its weapons.

Upsouthern. I like nonsensical names like that. Cargo and exploration ship. General purpose in-system long-hauls.

the "Good Ship Abuse", i would land on a planet and hurl abuse at everything in a 1-mile radius, then fly off to another planet to do the same.

the neverending journey to abuse all lifeforms in the universe, thats the journey of the "Good Ship Abuse"

The Red Star.

It is a giant monolith of power and destruction. Its purpose is to destroy all humans for the might of my grand race we shall not rest until we exterminate them all. Just so you know how serious we are, our weekly quota is exactly one million destroyed humans.

I suspect in the future, due to budget restrictions, I will be riding on EasyJet/Ryanair's space program.
The first one would have a garish orange colour scheme. The second one would be cheap to get on, but they would probably charge you for your oxygen consumption.
