I'll admit it. I own Pokemon Pearl. It makes me feel like im nine again and playing red version. I do enjoy some of the new pokemon like Magnezone, but for every cool one there are two stupid ones like bidoof. If the start to go quality over quanity I will support the franchise.
You mean "Baidoof"?

Also, the worst has to be the new ledgendaries.

If they're so rare, why are there fourteen new ones in D/P/Pt?
They're not all really "legendaries". Just one-of-a-kind. Now, you wanna know a true legendary? A pokemon that's one of a kind and able to be effectively used in-game with little or no knowledge of the games deeper mechanics. In other words, the stuff little kids are likely to use.
Tell me about it. My young neighnour only uses a "Torterra". HIS STARTER.
Unlike my epic team.
Hey...I use him! But not solely...I also use my adorable Espeon, powerful Dragonite, and fancy new Gallade.

Chasing the legendary dogs all over hells creation (This was some of the greatest fun i have had in any game), and being able to travel in between Kanto and Johto.
If that's fun, then I've got to wonder if you enjoy pain, too.

In my day, 251 pokémans was enough! We didn't have all these extra legendaries and split screens and multiple pokemans battling at the same time. Legendar pokémans was legendary because there were so few of them! I chased all three dogs over all of Johto! Now there are so many new ones I could never devote that kind of spare time to it again.
I do feel really old looking at these new ones now, though. Get off my lawn, you kids!

You are. My friend, you're going through what every generation has to face eventually: past a certain age, everything new starts to feel "wrong". It's just you.

It isn't difficult, after you have seen them once (when you awaken them you will see them in the direction they ran almost without fail) you can track their position with your pokedex and anticipate their next move. once you are in their area use a repel and you are 90% chance bound to see them. As i said before mean look them with Gengar or what have you so they can't run and then hypnosis/disable them until they are easy to catch. Use heavy balls or fast balls. Ive' caught the legendary dogs every time I've played gold and silver start to finish.

The only one i ever really liked was Yellow. I tried playing silver after that, but it just didnt have that charm the first ones had. Im probably blinded by nostalgia, because the continuing games had more features and pokemon, but I am fond of the originals, because those are the only ones i ever really was interested in when i was a child.

So it's 1999 and having recieved my brand spanking new Game Boy Color and Pokemon Blue I immediately set upon playing it.
I like you am a 90's kid who loved to play pokemon red till my eyes were screaming. I actually bought pearl and i don't mind new pokemon but what i can't stand is them taking ones like electrobuss and magma (ones with no evolution forms) and giving them baby forms.
I'll stick to my 151 thank you very much.

UNRELATED THING

Now, to say something, the new D/P one's aren't bad, 'part from this stupid Pikachu rip called "Pachirisu". The G/S ones, were the best, and we are all blinded by nostalgia. And also I used my master ball on a Entei when I randomly ran into one, once.

I predate Pokemon by quite a bit and I have clear memories of friends' younger siblings trying to show me Red and Blue, but I've always liked the idea of the gameplay and I did briefly play Ruby out of curiousity. I found it to be a fun game, but I disliked the lack of difficulty in the single player campaign. I feel that a good campaign confronts the player with challenges that force him to learn the deeper nuances of gameplay.

If you are bored with Pokemon, but interested in trying another flavor of turn-based gaming with recruitable enemies, I'd like to suggest the strong, engaging single player experience that is Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne. The setting is post-apocalyptic Tokyo, with characters and inhabitants being of the spiritual realm. Ghosts, demons, and even gods can be persuaded out of battle and into your ranks through several tactics and once you obtain a creature's allegiance, there is a fusion system you can use to create new, more powerful creatures. There is ability inheritance, creature alignment and other things to consider when fusing, and the fusion system acts as an anti-grind, encouraging the player to mix up his party frequently to accommodate the ever-changing battlefield.

Consider yourselves informed.

Then new pokemon aremostly pathetic but pretty good. They need to stop making more, otherwise they will just forget the old ones. Oh wait too late

I never played the Ruby/Saphire/Emerald generation but skipped to the Pearl/Diamond/Platinum generation and wonder to myself "why bother anymore?". This is no longer the Pokemon I grew up with, all these hidden stats, traits, sweepers, etc. I will stick with Red/Blue/Yellow and Gold/Silver/Crystal generations

I miss when pokemon had things like shoulders and elbows...

I'm lookin' at you, pachirisu.

But the big problem that the old-skool players have with the game is that they combined the feel of the anime (and marketing conglomerate) with the game itself.
Yellow was a bad enough departure, but it took the show's premise, and plopped it right into the middle of Red and Blue, to much success.
Ruby and Sapphire, personally, killed the feeling of the past games with the bright'n pop-y art style, and the childish music. Before, the arcetecture didn't have pokeballs built into the rooves, or cheerful synth music... Pokemon got deathly sick, got abused by radio waves to the extent that their colors changed, and even were dismembered by gangsters. Several of the songs from G/S were heavily influenced by traditional Japanese culture.

Gold and Silver was a game set in an alternate Japan.
Ruby and Sapphire were set in an anime versuin of Japan.

Amen. The person that introduced hidden stats and natures and effort values ruined the game for me. I was doing perfectly well with my Sapphire team until he came in and turned Pokemon into a second job for me. When I played Diamond, if a Pokemon had a bad nature or stats, I wouldn't touch it. Then I realised the monster I had become, and went back to playing like I did when I was a kid. I don't care what stats it has, my Blastoise is awesome dammit :p

More difficulty settings or even an auto adjusting handicap would have made the games much more fun (IE challenging) As long as you beat your rival in the first battle in the game and gain that 1 level you are ahead of virtually ever fight in the game thereafter without even needing to grind outside of missions.

Though Red the final boss in G/S/C had obesely high leveled pokemon, i was still able to take him out him without a problem, even though all of my pokemon were sometimes half the level of his.

I remember grinding my pokemons way to level 100 (without rare candies) and when i was done i asked myslef what was the point.

there wasn't one unless i wanted to further humiliate myself by going down to carshark clubs on Saturday afternoons to game cable against guys in their 40's who still live with their moms.

The sad thing is, they were always there. (including the EVs...) That's why Pokemon Statium is so awesome. The rental pokemon are all pure and simple; no TMs or special strategies.

Shouldn't there be a... uhh... Carbon Fiber edition as well?
Honestly, I would buy a 'Pokemon: Carbon Fibre', that name sounds awesome. OT, I have to say, much like everyone else here, Gold was my favourite, not to say I didn't enjoy the other ones I played (up until Leaf Green). With me, it isn't the nostalgia or anything. I remember the first time I played through and beat Gold, something just felt right about the game. I was thinking 'This is what a Pokemon game should be like'. I have yet to get that feeling from any of the other games yet, though, although I haven't played anything after Leaf Green, so who knows, maybe there is another one out there that will feel as right as Gold did.

Seems the general consensus is that G/S/C were the best. I agree. I did like Sapphire and I still like the games, even the new ones, but I rarely finish one now. I don't know all the new Pokemon that exist like I knew the 251 that were around with G/S/C. The only reason I try to keep up at all is because I still play the card game as a hobby. I only have one, maybe two, friends who still play.

Anyway, yeah, I personally think the first 151 or 251 were the best but really, it's only due to the memories.

Which Dog is your favorite? I've always been a Suicune guy, myself.

Im in the classic time of pokemon 151 was enough. I got the new one (Diamond) and it's getting confusing have around 600 of the damn things. But some of the new ones are good.
