There is an exactly 0% chance that there will be another gaming crash.

I wish people would stop bringing this topic up. The conditions that led to the crash in the early 80s CAN NOT repeat themselves these days. It's not possible.
I hope you're not working in the financial industry. By the same logic the 2008 global financial crisis couldn't have happened becaused the crash in 1987 can't repeat itself in the exact same fashion. Ever considered that crashes/ crises can emerge under different conditions?

I am NOT saying that there definitely will be a crash/ crisis. I am saying your logic is flawed.
You know what's really flawed logic? Comparing the 2008/1987 financial crashes to the 1983 video game crash. If you even for a MOMENT think they are comparable outside of including the word 'crash', then you have a lot of catching up to do in terms of history.
Missed the point and no need for ad hominem.

The underlying point is that predicting the future from past results is asking to be (unpleasantly) surprised. I'll ask it again: Have you ever considered that it is possible that crashes/ crises (whatever the industry) can emerge under entirely different conditions/ circumstances? How else is it to be explained that (relatively) so few people saw the global financial crisis (just an example) coming?

Gaming wasn't nearly as huge an industry in 83 as it is today. You didn't have communities like the escapist or the vast varieties of genres and submarkets in gaming like we have today. Even if some leading game companies do fail, others will inevitably rise to replace them because the consumer base is still there and always will be. Only something utterly catastrophic like a global economic collapse could kill gaming, and if that happens video games will be the least of our concerns.
