Akimbo 1887 with Bling Pro to countering the nerf they did in an update...that's dedication, but still "noob" as they are stupidly easy kills (one would imagine, I don't own the game).

The only noob guns on BC2 that I've heard called that were the N-2000 Shotgun, the M60 LMG, the 40mm grenade launcher ("noob tube") and the Carl Gustav RPG ("Big noob tube").

The N-2000 because it has crazy damage even with the accuracy perk (which reduces overall damage), the M60 cos it's really accurate (the most accurate LMG) and really powerful (the most powerful LMG), the 40mm g-launcher for obvious reasons, and the same goes for the Gustav.

Calling someone a "noob" is justified when the weapons they use remove all need to be good at the game, where most of the time you will win a fire-fight regardless of what you can do, more because of the weapon you use.

My rule is, if you can do it without physically hacking or modding the game, then it's fair.
People seem to forget that while my noob-tube may be powerful, (i.e, 12-year-old speak=CHEAP) they can use one too.

Well, I just started MW2, but I see a LOT of what you mentioned.

The only thing that annoys me in that game is tube-spamming, but that is mainly because I can't aim the things for the life of me.

There was one game where I was on the receiving end of a point blank tube to the face, impact kill, no esplosion. That one was pretty epic.

And while I am known to go on a knife spree (Marathon, lightweight, Commando) I don't have tac knife and I mainly use it on some of the smaller maps to compensate for me not having much unlocked =(

I am lv32ish now though, so I rarely use it.
More likely to run around with a FAL, AUG or Riot Shield =3

No FPS games are not like that. It may seem like that if you are playing on consoles as the larger user base and easy of use attracts more idiots like this and you are playing Call Of Duty. I checked you're user profile and it appears you are doing both. the CoD community even on the PC is still the worst I have seen by far for scrubs but atleast on the PC the scrubs make sorta a sense eg only nOObtubes are really complained about.

Also tactical nade spam is a legitimate strategy and has been going on in CoD games for years.

Savour the rage you know they feel when you have nailed them with a 40mm grenade.

Sometimes, the only way to enjoy an FPS online is to feast on the tears of others.

No, you're not a noob for using an in-game feature to achieve in-game goals.

Ha Ha love this thread,

I love how they always scream noob (and other kinds of profanity) at you for killing them endless times, and think they just won the million jackpot once the killed you?! very confusing,

I admit, I enjoy taunting raged players, great how they just snap.

I remember one of my students calling me a noob because I played text based MUDs. I had to correct him and explain that it was quite the opposite. I'm not convinced people who use the word noob necessarily even know what it means anymore.
That's hilarious.
Yeah, it seems everyone has forgotten about the real Noob.

I must be very fortunate in the FPS games I play because there have only been a few instances where I was called a noob for doing nothing more than legitimately kicking the shit out of everyone. But hey, I guess winning means I'm a noob. And I must really be a noob since I've probably been playing video games longer than the people saying it have been alive.

i Personally believe that a 'noob' weapon is one that you can fire blindly about the map and still 1hit anything near where you hit
mostly just random explosives spamming

It's all about the community.

Games like MW2, CSS, Halo 3 and, to a lesser extent, BC2 attract a lot of complaints, mainly because the average age of the community is about 12.

If you play some of the less serious and realistic FPS, you'll find people complain a lot less. TF2 for example, people rarely complain because it takes more that a couple of hits to die, giving you time to react and counter rather than getting blindsided out of nowhere (though demoman can be a bit cheap at times).

I don't know how true it is, but I recall reading somewhere (I think it was a cracked.com top-list, so take it with a grain of salt) that MOST machine guns are designed to keep the enemy heads down long enough for your own team to set up THEIR rifles, to pick of any idiot who's looking up when the guns stop firing.

So, you might not headshot someone from quarter across the map in one round. Such shots DO require skill, but they are rare, and are mostly result of luck. If I am to claim something is about "skill", then it is closer quarters combat: it takes more reliable skill to kill an opponent with say, a shotgun, or SMG at closer range, because you have keep the enemy from hurting you, while you hurt him.

Judgement is the true mark of skill: when and where to apply weapons fire. "True" sniping (meaning, actively moving from spot to spot while not getting hit) is difficult to pull off, especially in a game, seeing as you can't retreat, and you usually can't rely on back-up to keep you target pinned.

Being a noob is, as someone above me pointed out, someone who doesn't know how to play the game according to the tastes of the one saying it.

Playing to win, or playing to have fun. Those are the two camps in online gaming.

Which is yours?

I thought a noob labelled a player as having outstanding inexperience at a game. Aren't they the ones looking at your barrel end?

People in FPS games don't like losing. You will get called a noob, a hacker, and everything in between. Just accept that these people would rather blame others for their faults than blame theirselves and learn from their own mistakes.

Nowadays the use of n00b I tend to take as a compliment which annoys people.

Though for some bizarre reason I have never once heard it used playing MW2, I don't play often but have clocked 24 hours at least online. Also rarely heard kiddies on there, though I tend to play almost exclusively past their bed time.

Yeah, I get a few people to rage at me because I am a huge noob in MW2, shooting them a new shiny airhole with Intervention.
It's amusing really.
When that happens I swap to my extra-class I perfected for this occasion,
ACR w/ Grenade Launcher, Thumper and the Danger Close-perk and go out and kill them all and afterwards have a nice cup of fresh warm tears to go along with the rage.

I've never been called a noob for using an M-16, or at all really. If I find a weapon to be really cheap, I avoid it just from figuring how much that weapon would piss me off if I were killed by it.
