This blows.......... as the release for this game gets closer and closer I'm only going to get angrier and angrier because DAMMIT! I want KotOR 3.
This basically is Kotor 3, realize that and you'll feel better.

...then buy it.
Nope not happening, I don't have the lifestyle to support playing that type of game. I guess I'll just have to accept that the game I want will not come out for at least the next 3 years and move on.....DAMMIT.
What lifestyle? Just spend the time you'd normally spend playing a Kotor 3 playing this.

If you don't have any time to play a Kotor 3 in your lifestyle, than what are you complaining about?
There is a vast (at least for me) difference in time use between an RPG and a MMORPG. When I get a game, in this case an RPG, that I like I put most if not all of my free time in to completing it (first time through that is). Also I would think that the story structure between an MMO and an RPG would differ greatly.

I don't like what's been done to the Star Wars universe, but I guess that's not this games fault so much as just Star Wars in general changing.

See, I used to think of Jedi as these wise warrior monks, few in number, who's abilities were subtle but influential. The proverbial 'these aren't the droids you're looking for' sort of abilities. Yoda even said at one point that a Jedi must never, never use their abilities for fighting or combat. That it was a passive force, that guided and aided those who listened! The Force was as mysterious as it was subtle, and often its influences wouldn't be felt till long after events had taken place...

Now we've got Multiclass Wizard/Warriors jumping around with double bladed Vorpal Swords +5 doing hadoukens to defeat mr.genericevil. What happened?

But again, that's less to do with this as it does just the setting in general changing. Cool trailer!

I don't know, it's a close call, but I mentioned in the OP that while I thought Blizzard used to reign supreme, they just came out with the Cataclysm trailer for their next major game, whereas Bioware came out with this.
Blizzard hasn't released a cinematic trailer for Cataclysm yet, what'cha talkin' bout? The only trailer they've shown so far was the announcement trailer.

I don't see why there is a vast difference in time use, yes, there is a vast difference in how much the AVERAGE person plays an MMO compared to an RPG, but I don't see why you think you need to adhere to that, or that it would water down the experience to play it using the same (or less) amount of time you would a Kotor 3.

The story structure will be different, but give Bioware a little trust, the entire point of this MMO is an attempt to bridge the gap, and if anyone can do it, they can.

Frankly I'm glad they are doing this instead of Kotor 3, because if this is successful, they will be constantly updating and adding to it through patches and expansions, meaning the Kotor universe will never die.

What makes you think they will release a cinematic trailer? Usually the announcement trailer is the cinematic trailer.

I don't like how force power keeps rising too, but this is step in the right direction, instead of taking the thing that came before it (the force unleashed) and amplifying it further like most new games based on Star Wars, they took a step back, not a huge one, but they couldn't have jumped back to Old Trilogy force use without people going "what the FUCK!?"

If other developers do what ToR is doing and take a minor step back each time, before long it will be reigned in to realistic levels again.

Hot on the heels of the Sith Warrior, Jedi Knight, and Bounty Hunter, this trailer brings the Jedi Consular, the Trooper, and the Sith Inquisitor to cinematic glory. Next up, hopefully the Smuggler and Sith Agent!
FYI: The Sith in the Hope trailer is the same as in the other trailer. (So not warrior and Inquisitor)
I believe his name is Darth Malgus, Hope sort of explains why he wears a breather in the other cinematic.

That was the first time I saw that, and this is the only thing I could think of. Wouldn't that be the Star Wars equivelent to at least three 9'11's? I mean, how many billions of people are on that planet again? A planet that is entirely a city? I mean you could see that whiping out several buildings with no issues, what the hell? And then the thousands of soldiers serving on the ship as well.

I think that's just... Well, quite retarded when looking at it.

Well, the fact they said they will and because every single product ever released by Blizzard has had one? And no an announcement trailer and the cinematic trailer aren't the same thing. Here's Wrath of the Lich King's announcement trailer as well as Burning Crusades.

As for Star Wars, I just preferred ye olden ways. Still love Kotor 1 and 2, as well as the old Jedi Knight games on the PC, but watching that trailer I still can't help but think 'what happened?'.

When in Empire Strikes Back the emperor shot lightning for the first time it blew my mind and I could help but think "Holy shit, the dark side can do THAT!". Now it seems like everyone and their dog can do that and more. It's no longer subtle, it's in your face techno-wizardry!

But again, that's less to do with this game as it does just the change with the setting in general. Ah well!

Yep... one-week rendered Blizzard trailers are nothing compared to that package of awesome.

Although I don't like how Jedis are growing exponentially stronger with every Star Wars game. Remember the Jedi Knight series? You spent half of the second one with only guns. A short time ago we had The Force Unleashed where the little guy blows a hall apart like it's nothing.
However, the Old Republic trailer made me wet my pants nevertheless.
It bothers me how they are growing stronger too, but I believe this trailer is a MAJOR step in the RIGHT direction compared to the bullshit the last major Star Wars game pulled:
You mean, better than to stop a lightsaber with your bare hands?

It also bothers me how technology and fashion in the Star Wars universe doesn't advance one inch over the course of millions of years. The game is supposed to take place thousands of years before the movies, yet weapons and uniforms of the troops look a lot like the clones uniforms... Check a video of bounty hunter's gameplay and you will see Han Solo pulling it out...

That trailer caused a lot of rage when it came out, and justifiably too.

Next Sith will be able to destroy planets with the force, Force Lightning, will be replaced with "Force Laser" where a Death Star laser just shoots out of their palm.

I watched this trailer about five times.

each time I thought to myself "Damn, if this was a movie, using this CGI rahter than the movie that shall not be named, I would not only watch this in a theater, but bought the DVD."

and sadly, though the game wont exactlty look like this, I still have lesser hopes for it after reading this article:

http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/367/feature/4320/Star-Wars-The-Old-Republic-E3-2010-Mixed-Feelings-From-E3.html

If Bioware gives us open PvP servers, or even just planets that are open PvP, that might get me re-intrested in the game.
The article you are referring to talks about videos that can be found here http://e3.g4tv.com/games/pc/61502/star-wars-the-old-republic/index/ They are fairly longer than he said, though he did pretty much sum up the content revealed.

Oh, and PvP areas are announced, I don't know if they're planets, or areas on spesific planets (maybe one PvP area on each planet) but either way is coolio.

I'm going to have the same approach for it as I did when Batman Arkham Asylum was being released. By that I mean I'm going to treat it as guilty until proven otherwise.

Well you shoudl know that the old republic Jedi aren't the same as the prequal Jedi.

At that time Jedi had families, could marry and pursue romantic interests, as long as they knew their priorities and duties to the Order.

In the prequels it's a lot more rigid, the rules are harsher then they used to be and all that.
Not a full (possible) explanation but it works for me anyway.

Darth Vader in the old trilogy could block blaster shots with his hand, the lightsaber is an object just like anything else, Jedi use the force on it to pull them toward themselves, so why wouldn't they be able to use the force to push one away?

Stopping a blade of energy is a HELL of a lot less overpowered than crashing a SHIP THE SIZE OF A CITY!

It could be a remote explosive with a detonator.

Just a guess.
So that was the detonator......where was the explosive? (if it was in the guy's vest, it wouldn't have damaged both of their faces more or less equally, and it would have had to explode THROUGH his armor to reach their faces, effectively blowing him apart)

Not that it really matters, I'm just sort of OCD in stuff like this, everything that doesn't make sense I lock onto instantly
Well the bottom half could possibly contain the explosive, and could be snapped off and stuck to something when necessary. He could have just kept the thing intact to use it.

when I saw the trailer, I thought it was the biggest BS since SWE1&2.

the game is meant to be set thousands of years before the films right?

well why are there soldiers dressing up like Clone troopers? why is there a "beta" version of the Droideka?

I am suppose to believe that the military dress like the Clone troopers for thousands of years? and that it took thousands of years just to make the Droideka more mobile, slimmer, have a shield generator and can fire at a slightly faster rate!?!?

I don't buy it.

Ah rationalizing at its finest.

Lol, I'm actually quite impressed, you seemed to have backed me into a corner, well done sir! *tips hat*

It seems to be an overcomplicated explanation, but it's plausible, well done.
