Firstly I know I am slightly hampered by the fact that I am a 360 owner so modding isn't going to help me with this.

But I was thinking from playing things like Baldurs gate and pen and paper RP's how great would it be to have a multiplayer mod for Fallout 3 which would enable you to get a group of five friends and create a team to explore the wastes more effectively. There is scope for this as the vault is full of people but does rather detract from the lone saviour of the wastes idea.

But on the other hand it would make for a fantastic coop experience, it would have to be teaked to be harder. But playing the game over Xbox live using the headsets would in my opinion be great. It would be hard to implement as they would have to create servers and such but C'mon Bathesda could make it work. especially if they found a way of integrating Windows and Xbox live so that everyone could play.

Well all except PS3 players but Bathesda already hates them anyway!

I would be interested in the mechanics of this as I am an ideas man with no notion of the tech involved!

Please discuss and feel free to shoot my dream down in flames if this is impractical!

The only problem with this is, of course, VATS. You pause on a mutant but your friend is faster and blows its head off in the middle of your attempt. Other than that, I agree, this would be pretty cool. What we're getting into is the realm of MMO's, though, because as a team this would be far too easy so they'd have to introduce areas where there are tougher enemies or something and you have to go as a team, and it would have to be bigger, etc. If it worked, though, I would play a Fallout MMO.

The mod I would like to see would be is a hover board mod - like from back to the future, or ut2k4.

I would also love a online radio mod.

I would like to see a mod making use of the third person camera and returning the game to a turn based battle system.

What, and lose all of Fallout's new fans, success, and money? You jest!
As for the third person camera, watch the Halo battles, or better yet, the new Mirror's Edge 3rd person mod. Both look horribly awkward from a 3rd person perspective.

If it were to stay real time, the VATs system would have to be dropped altogether.

Otherwise you'd have to aim for Final Fantasy party style, turn based encounters.

The VATS issue is easily solved by pausing the game for the other players as well while someone's in VATS mode. There are plenty of games who do this already with pause-features in multiplayer.

Edit: Only goes for a small multiplayer session, though. Then again, I don't like MMORPGs, so I don't care much about finding a solution for it for them as well.

Fallout 3 doesn't work as a MMO just pointing that out. The whole point is that there are barely any human survivors, something an MMO would fail hard at representing. Plus it would suddenly fill the wasteland with douchebags running around. The VATS system would either be crippled or removed entirely.

Otherwise I'm waiting for someone to recreate fallout1 in the Fallout 3 engine.

I would like to see a mod that puts more modern music on the radio, you can't tell me with all of the intact places in the wasteland that you can't find a single cd or cd player?

So you're saying that Fallout 3 is successful because everyone wants to play a clone with different aesthetics?

A really well-designed clone but, essentially yeah.

One thing that could be done is that instead of entering VATS it activates a sort of bullet time so that everyone can have time to think out their next shot instead of being frozen till that person takes their shots. Perhaps while in bullet time a VATS menu could be activated for people who just can't shoot, but time will still be going while this is happening.

It's not a clone. The only main things that fallout 3 and oblivion have in common are their gaming engines, and the style the terrain. It's like comparing Quake 2 to Smokin' Guns(A stand alone mod using the quake engine).

That would be one mod I would stay far, far away from.
As would I. The biggest problem some people seem to have is understanding that you cannot force a game engine to be different from what it is. And if you somehow manage that it isn't going to turn out well. Biggest example: Last year a group of students in my college tried to use Neverwinter Nights to make a mod that instead of being high fantasy, was sci-fi. Essentially meaning they had to make everything from scratch. You can figure out that they never really finished it.

And yes, I'm aware there are exceptions to this, but still.

I like the sounds of a party of friends working together, but that doesn't mean it has to be MMO. Fable 2 did it (although the whole sharing a screen and preset avatar can just fall off a cliff and die), and so did Halo, only on a smaller scale. Why not have drop in, drop out co-op play? An MMO would just spoil it.
