The Onion Rates the Best Games of the Decade

The Onion, for the uninitiated, is a satirical newspaper, but they also have a separate site, the AV Club, that reviews movies, music, and games.

So, they've ranked the 15 best games since 2000.

I know that many such lists have been posted on this site over the years, but this is perhaps the first "official" Game of the Decade list. For this decade, anyway.

Since this is a topic that's been done before, how about we also discuss our opinions of the AV Club, if we ever read their reviews?

I'd actually agree with most of their top 10, I like the way they include a MMORGG in their list too which should be number one for absorbing peoples souls.

Actually, I thought I was a very good list especialy if you look at it in terms of how some the games advancemeed games as a medium. The games that the OP mentioned are considered greats, and probbaly deservedly so (I only played half-life 2) but didn't really bring anything new to the table (Demon's Souls actually struck me as sort of regressive).

Well, on the whole that was a decent list, but no Half-Life 2? The fuck? Not a SINGLE Metal Gear Solid game? Blasphemy. Apart from that, I really loved most of those games, so I'm not terribly disappointed.

My thoughts exactly. I found the plot to be rather ridiculous, and the twist overall rather lame. Gameplay was the typical tried-and-true affair, the only thing it really had going for it were the pretty graphics.

About the only two I agree with are ICO and Bioshock I cant take a list that puts Portal on it seriously I'm sorry but a three hour game cannot take a position like best of anything especially wiht next to no replay value, and Braid? Seriously its okay but it's essentialy a prince of persia reskin.

The plot was intriguing, don't get me wrong...but to call that the twist of the decade or whatever you will, is complete ludicrous. Honestly, I could tell right from the start that I was being played the entire time. "Oh man! This game is so deep! Its like, "Would you kindly?" and then I do it! TOTALLY GOT INTO MY HEAD BRO!"

Freakin' stupid. And while the graphics looked nice...everything was too...big for me I guess. It felt a little clunky as well. I enjoyed the game thoroughly though.

Get what right? Your exact opinion? Any "top 10" of the decade is subjective, no matter which way you fry it. And a list missing Oblivion is probably a good thing, so much wrong with that game.

There are issues with Fallout 3, too. But it made it on the list.

World of Warcraft? FFXII?!?! Someone explain to me how games so terrible can get into a list like this.

Bioshock? Sure, it's good, great even, but it's definitely not the best game of the decade.

You mention that Bioshock was highly over-rated and then mention MGS4 in the very next sentence which, while being a great game, is in my opinion vastly over-rated. Over-rated or not it still deserved a mention in that list though.

I'm amazed that I actually agree with the majority of games on this list (SSX3 can fvck off), perhaps because I've played them all. It's not my top 15 but it's a pretty decent attempt. *tips hat*
