EDIT: I think the escapist might be in pain, sorry for the double post. I'll use this one for the final Eviljoe post.

Another 10-hours of work here, so perhaps tonight.

aaaaawww.... he was all set to be a blademaster... and then he went all dragon-ball z.
this section was rather abrupt. if it were me, i would have had more build-up in the previous sections, maybe mentions of mystic power or the war. it would have been quite easy to set him up as killing his way through the soldiers with a sword rather than the ubiquitous blue lighht...

but that's just me.

High-five. Awesome comic. <3
it is indeed. i return your high-five, good sir.

this is dark, gritty... i love it. it's a fairy tale gone... interesting.
i especially like jyill's hair-flail. a tasteful depiction.

...slowly getting through all these.
While I appreciate the concern, I want it to be made clear that 95% of my story's content was made up on the spot. So my battle posts will be of much higher quality.

Other than that... Friday at the earliest? I can roll with that

Jesus, breathless, ran headlong into Gabriel.

?They?re all here. Where?s Father?? he huffed.

?Drunk.?

?How much so??

?Pissed Himself just now.?

?Well, I suppose-?

?Was waving the bottle around and yelling ?I?ll cut you?!?

?Maybe-?

?He retroactively added some weird fitness guy to Earth.?

?Oh.?

?Look, you?re going to have to go up there.?

Lucifer, who had been lounging nearby, now stepped in.

?You know, I suppose I could-?

?No,? came the reply in stereo.

?It was Father?s idea! Why do I need to-?

?Quit whining. You died for their bloody sins; would going up to them and saying ?Alright! Time to kill each other!? be so difficult?

?Father?that?that?lout!?

?Jesus, would it be so hard to say ?************???

?GABRIEL!?

?It?s a word! For His sake, it?s a bloody word! Get up there!? With that, he shoved the protesting

With tremulous steps, Jesus ascended a podium before an innumerable horde of combatants.

?Err?welcome to the, ah, the tournament, everyone. Um, you?ll be called out individually for your matches; at all other times, you?ll be waiting in Purgatory. Killing is unnecessary-?

A chorus of boos and a flung goblet assaulted Christ.

?All, all, all you need to do is, uh, inca, incapacitate your opponent. Last man, woman, hermaphrodite, asexual, or some gender not pronounceable in any common tongue wins. Any questions? Good.?

?But I-? protested a member of the audience.

?I said ?good?. I suppose we shall, ah, begin, then??

Cheers erupted as Jesus stepped through a shining portal back to Heaven.

?Gabriel,? he called. The archangel stepped forward.

?Stretch the fights as much as possible. I want every angel in Heaven investigating the death and making sure there isn?t some grand conspiracy waiting to unleash itself after this thing is over.?

Alright, found some time.

First match: Drane vs. Emanuel Canzito

Location: Earthly-THE UNDERBELLY

Whenever you look at brochures, you always see the great buildings, the good food, the happy workers. You never see the real city.

Here, at night, in the alleys and the ghettos and the slums, the city shows its face. Traffickers of wine, women, and all manner of intoxicating substances pressure you to buy.

Here, we have our first match. Surrounded by the worst of the world, two champions collide.

--

You have five days. Should you have some conflict, please let me know as soon as possible, and I will extend the time.

understood. i guess i was just feeling let down... which is strange, considering it doesn't cost me anythng to read these. put it this way: the first few were so good that i cared a lot when it got worse.

Quite the handy post. A few spelling errors here and there, but I don't mind.

I've also realised not only how many people are actually taking part in this Ratings War, but I've noticed a couple of people nicking my 'couples' theme. I mean, I was trying to do something different there!

No offense, they're still great characters, but it ruins the novelty and uniqueness of what I was doing. Eh, I can't change anything. But it does give me ideas for future interactions...

Don't think you started the couples thing. The Anarchistic Actors, The Caviler Clowns, the Dueling Duo Armitage Shanks and Diego Flombere have claim to the first use of 'couples' by a long shot.

Of course, since couples are stipulated in the guidelines I don't think any of us are pioneering new frontiers here.

As a side note, to Krunk and anyone else who is writing for two; its a real *****. Like a lot harder than writing for a single fighter. You have to constantly remind your audience that you have two contestants, and keep them both doing something, and keep your opponent animated, and write an interesting story, and have dialogue, because lets face it, its unlikely you have a team who never talk, dialogue of course is harder to write than thoughts or an internal monologue.

I'm not saying their aren't benefits and a interesting things to do, its just a lot more complex ad time consuming.

And yes, thanks vid, that list is sure to come in useful.

I stand corrected, I was obviously late to the party.

As for the benefits and responsibilities of playing two players, I have that all under control. The reason why my sheet didn't wind up on the first page was precisely because I was deciding on whether it was a good idea for quite a while. My alternative was a homicidal kid that likes to trap people inside their own nightmares/personal hell (a medium for psychological studies of the characters I face), but I suppose that will have to wait until RW4.

That is, unless I get a better idea or a chance to resurrect Lord Krunk. Good times.

I can't help noticing that both you and Sorrow moved the 'n' in Cazinto, though. I suspect a conspiracy.

Spelling mistakes? Wheeee my speciality. Glad you appreciate it.
At least I see no "forms" there, but you have succeeded in misspelling my nickname. Shame on you. Anyway, good job.
Have I mentioned it is awesome to have you participating? This goes out to Emu, Dasta, Van, Nuke, LaCoil and, most of all, mshcherbatskaya as well. Hope you all will stick around and do your part, and I hope mscher stays for the full course this time. =3
Now all I'm missing is fullmetalangel. Can't have them all, huh. Anyway, I'm glad I've gotten so many people here. I can't believe you didn't show up for RW2, but better late than never ;)

I just love you guys.

Right, sorry about the "No Character Sheet" thing, which honestly didn't occur to me until I re-read the thread. I know, I should be more on the ball than this.

EDIT: I claim page 6 in the name of NewClassic, fear my soon-to-be-broken dictator-esque power!

Well, character sheet following. Who doesn't love Stan?

Name: Stanley "Stan" Butsitly

Moniker: Stan

Race: The One-True Warrior With the Destiny of the Gods

Appearance: If you've seen a college student, you have a decent idea of what Stan looks like. Thick pink hair falls in well-oiled tufts, and covers his head in a mop of clearly uncared-for hair. Sleep deprivation had not done his young features kindly, and black bags carved sharp age marks in Stan's not-so-aged face. Regardless of that, Stan wasn't exactly the most well-built guy, but did his fair share of bar fights and bar "Oh my God, Run!"s to have a decent build to him. Wiry, a tiny sign of fat at his waist, and a bit of a lazy amble to everything he did. The heavy woolen robe looked a little silly, too.

Age: Twenty... Three? He thinks? Kinda hard to remember.

Powers And Abilities:

"Magic," his instructors had explained to him years ago, "is a series of elements. Conversion of one energy to another. It's a primal force that allows the wielder to do things as simple as cooling a warm pot of soup to something as complex and rewiring the molecular structure of a human being by re-arranging cells on an atomic level. Each of these things requires a previous knowledge of the laws of nature for any reaction, and the concentration to maintain every facet of the force you are altering, not simply the section you are changing."

Stan decided that it was a difficult task to fill those elements, and deals primarily in potential energy, redirecting used energy by simple making it trade places with other non-functional energies. This saves him having to sit down and draw a game-plan on five or more chalkboards, but can't do much more than summon up hefty gusts of wind. Exceptionally bright, Stan can do a lot more on the fly than that, but he doesn't usually think to.

Though if there's enough oxygen to burn in an area, and a torch nearby, don't be alarmed if Stan decides to torch the entire building, which he later will deny having any hand in arson when the police ask.

Weapons:

Common lore would have you believe that wizards have beards fitting of their age, wisdom to counter the darkness, and big wooden sticks. Though no stranger to phallic symbols, Stan believes that magic has a lot more subtlety to it than... Well... Big sticks. Instead of his big stick, Stan concentrates on a more passable modern equivalent. Stan walks around with a 9mm Sig Sauer, a classic. Though he's no gun-fighter, it's most a conduit to focus whatever energies he can absorb from the area.

Like any symbol, the gun is largely non-functional. The parts are all in place, and the clip has bullets in it, but they don't do much more than maybe shoot... Maybe...

Probably not.

Stan himself uses no more than his fists for most fights, but he's had enough drunken brawls to be able to hold his own against groups of mortals. Though he'll probably lean heavily on the magic when he has to throw down with something on the far side of normal.

Background:

Stan grew up to a faceless, emotionless nuclear American family. The middle child in a house filled to the brim with mediocrity, Stan only remembers the time he made it rain lemon juice. Partly because he heard people complaining about being sticky, and partly because he was sure he had made the sky rain citrus.

Like any self-respecting Wizard, Stan went to a magic academy to hone his craft. He spent all of his advanced theory lessons in a bar, so he doesn't have the background necessary to really throw out the hard or confusing spells. Though that doesn't make him a pushover, just means he can't make your blood boil from inside you...

...Yet.

I overslept again, now i'm behind.

For a moment I was under the impression that I was going to end up going first.

Fortunately, that's for Blingy and Zem.

Sorry I haven't been updating, I forgot this, and the internet for that matter, existed for a few days, the reason which I am loathe to explain. Everyone has a great new character as well as each having their own historical epilogue. All of which does look promising.

Me? I've got a fucking intro that doesn't even relate to my character.

Well, until the end.

I'll be getting to work now. In the mean time, is it possible that the others can interact within the walls of purgatory while the other two duke it out?

I'm up first?

Bugger.

Ah well, I have some free time coming up. An extended weekend, with Monday spent at home. Expect it to be written up some time before Tuesday.
