Just talk to some friends and find something that makes you happy.

I know how you feel. Almost 7 months ago my ex-fiance left me very suddenly for someone who I believed was my friend and I was so upset for a while. However, the thing that made me get over it was the thought of going back to school cause I knew it was something I never could have done while I was with him. I still miss him so i don't think the feeling will go away.

Just try to find something that will make her leaving you a good thing. That is what I did. My friends helped so much as well so try to spend as much time with them as possible. A new romance does help as well.

Screwing her best friend always helps. : )
Oh that crossed my mind when my fiance left me. However he is too damn far away but that sure as hell would have helped.

Thank you. So much.

Also.. since I'm posting anyway, some inexpert advice; the past can't be changed and, when you spend time regreting stuff, the present is just wasting away. now for some advice with less sagacity: screwit you don't need her yo.

Recently, my girlfriend dumped me. I'd rather not go into the reasons, but let's just say it left me pretty devastated. It's been about a month or so, but I still get some unpleasant pangs of loneliness. Does anyone have any tips on getting over someone, outside of getting another girlfriend?

alcohol, (guy) friends and strip joints.

Go be a sissy and Cry to The Cures Disintegration and then go smash the shit out of something to NIN's Pretty Hate Machine.

Hang out with your friends and show her that you are living your life just fine without her...and yes, I know it sounds like so many songs on the radio, but it works. That's how I got over a bf that cheated on me. Now I am happily engaged to the man I love!

yeah, chilling with friends is always the best bet.
either that or just wait a few weeks, everybody always returns to the middle ground after a while, no matter how happy or depressed you are.

Go to Dineyland, try to BS your way into Club 33. Fail miserably, then go home. All done.

I can only really repeat what everyone else said, but I'd advise you stay away from the alcohol even if you can drink. It'll all go downhill if you overdo it and can't get over it normally, or so I think. Same goes for the one night stands, possibly. It's up to you if you want to cut ties (I can't help you with that one, and it really should be dealt with case by case). Just hang with your friends and/or find something you can do where you have to concentrate a lot (or not. Random silliness is fun too). Decent amounts of exercise worked well here. Probably realize what gives you pangs and avoid them (certain shows, songs, etc.) I'd say take everyone's reaching-across-the-net hugs to heart too. We feel for you, seriously. Lastly, time definitely helps. You probably won't realize it for a while, but eventually the little things that hit you won't be as bad. Everything will go back to normal in time.

Interesting how 90% of us Escapists promote underage drinking.

I love you guys for that. <3

YES GET HAMMERED then hit on women. Or hit on women and get THEM hammmered SO BOTH OF YOU GET HAMMERED.

Then you can play carpenter. Hammering and nailing abound.
