Recently, my girlfriend dumped me. I'd rather not go into the reasons, but let's just say it left me pretty devastated. It's been about a month or so, but I still get some unpleasant pangs of loneliness. Does anyone have any tips on getting over someone, outside of getting another girlfriend?
Best revenge is success. Concentrate on work, or school. Get a promotion or great, not good great, job. Now lead a happy life and smile and enjoy every moment of it so when you see her again and she see's how happy you are without her you are victorious in life and my friend that's the point.
Now should you be happy in life with someone younger, cuter and a cup size bigger than her than my friend you have become the master of life and simply wave at her as you pass by,laugh and tickle your new love for you are the one she let get away and that will burn in her soul something fierce.
Do not ever take her back because betrayal is like sex, she will want to do it again.

Get a running start, then when your close enough put one hand on her shoulder and jump with one leg on the same side as your hand. Now while off the ground quickly throw your other leg over her head. If your athletic enough you can clear her, if not you should still end up on her shoulders and can use the momentum to knock her over and roll off forward, completing the task. If your REALLY un-athletic, you should just crash into her, knocking her down and allowing yourself to simply walk over her.

Hope that helps.

Listen to Bitches Ain't Shit by Ben Folds.
Um..
I don't know. Get another one, if you have the looks for that. Know it would've helped me.

My only advice is listen to what your friends and family say. I didn't... because I *knew* they were wrong and just didn't know her... Ya they did... Could have saved a year of my life if I'd just listened to them from the beginning.

Have a bunch of friends over for a night of beer, video games, and bad movies. It won't fix it completely, but it helps.

First and most importantly. Learn to enjoy being alone. Once you start to have the train of thought "Im so happy alone that if I met someone Id enjoy it, but I would also feel like Im losing something" then you are ready to get into another relationship.

Lurching from one relationship to another is not good.

Being compfortable with yourself and happy to be alone is a great feeling and it enhances the next relationship.

The only right way is to make sure you don't do anything that you will regret later. Easier said than done though.
The rule of thumb is don't drink yourself silly (or do anything that will cause a lapse of consciousness), and do not voluntarily inflict pain on yourself. Some cope better when they are with friends, some might like to gorge on ice-cream. There is no single magical bullet to kill the blues. Ultimately you just gotta tough it out.

as long as she's pretty. just saying, no reason to scar yourself and create further pain

True but if she has a sister close to the same age is even better!
the thing is... would it be bad for him if she looked too much alike?

This is absolutely genius, you made my night.

I can feel your pain too my friend as I have just broken up with my girlfriend of 2 years on the 20th. To say in the least what hurts the most will probably be the loneliness, but you must try to stay happy and keep your mind on other things. I'm basically taking most of the advice on here, except the drinking. When friends are sparse however, I suggest try a marathon of online gaming, that's what's helping me right now. Do you have a gamertag for Xbox Live? Mine's xNeedlerKingx if you up for a game or two on Gears or Halo or whatever floats your boat.

Best of luck,

To all the people saying one night stands and booze, geniuses! That's how I do it. Sleeping with the best friend will only lead to you talking to her or thinking about her...which is bad. Enjoy doing the things you couldn't do because she didn't approve. Then on your first sober night, make a bonfire of all the mementos/pictures you have of her. Works for me!

Make a list for yourself of why this relationship failed. Realise that there are plenty more fish in the sea. Tell yourself you will have better luck next time.

Honestly, there is no surefire way of getting over someone. Especially if they are someone who was part of your life withoutyour relationship. i.e. Working at same place ect.
Take an intrest in other things and talk to other girls. You will probably find someone better for you... eventually.

Dude I've been lonely all my life.

I'm also an insane hypocrite who hates humans and relishes attention anyway he can get it.

And I like Tenacious D.
