On the 14th-15th April, 1912, between the hours of about 11:40pm and 2:00am the RMS Titanic sank. She was built in Belfast, Ireland (now Northern Ireland) and began her maiden voyage on the 10th April, four days before her collision with an iceberg in the Atlantic Ocean; the cause of the sinking of the ship and, consequently, approximately 1500 deaths.
And I am ruddy sick of hearing about it. I was born and grew up in Belfast and, unfortunately, still live here. Because it is the 100th anniversary, we have been bombarded with Titanic this, Titanic that, 'we are so proud', 'let's re-release the film... in 3D!', etc., etc., etc.
It subsequently took them 100 years to build a museum about the Titanic because they were too busy investing on putting upa broken slinky in the middle of town 'modern art'. I plan on going there once the tickets drop in price (students and unemployed folks get a discount! Woo!) to make snarky remarks on tour amongst all the American tourists visiting their roots.
I'm really sorry, guys. I'll stop being negative now. Feel free to discuss the ship; why you love it; why you share the same opinion as me in that they're celebrating a tragedy; or feel free to say whatever you want about it.
Sigh, I feel so much better now.
