It was certainly innovative. In it's hayday, it was among the best television shows on the air, not just a cartoon. But in recent time, the Simpsons have indeed gotten a little stale. The jokes just aren't as daring as they used to be, and I find myself laughing less and less.

The simpsons is a bit dull at times tbh..

Its got moral points yeh, Homer is great.
Yet is just.. Smileing humor.
Not like South Park, Family guy, Futurama and American dad who really gets you cracked up.

Simpsons is kinda... Meeeh.

Simpsons, like most things from the early 80s and 90s hasn't really aged well in the 00s.
There are funnier cartoons now. The classic simpsons are atill great though.

To me, The Simpsons is one of the few multi-layered comedy cartoons around. I've watched just about all of the older episodes about ten times over, and laughed my arse off. Yet I watch them again as an older and more knowledgeable person, and I see a whole new layer of comedy that I simply didn't understand as a young'n, leaving me thinking 'how did they get away with that??' And this is why I scoff whenever any of the above is compared to The Simpsons.
I find that as well. As a teenager, I actually became suprised at some of the references and implications made in the episodes I watched as a child.

As for whether or not it is still the best, I think it is still a good show, but it has gone down in quality recently. Currently my personal favourite is Family Guy, mainly because it is just so random, and also some of the references made in it. I also like South Park, but just can't see much of it, and American Dad I do like, but I think of it as being too much like Family Guy.

The Simpsons is still the best. Sure, they are not as good as they used to be, but what they were was pure amazing.

It is impossible to compare The Simpsons (441 episodes) and Family Guy (126 episodes). When you go on as long as The Simpsons have things just aren't as good, they really can't be. They are in their third decade of making television. Compare The Simpsons at episode 126 (The Springfield Connection, season 6 for those of you wondering), with Family Guy 126. That is really the only fair comparison. Well not really fair, because the Simpsons destroy Family Guy.

Call me when Family Guy gets to episode 441 with extra seasons in the works and we will talk. Until then, The Simpsons win everytime!

American dad? That show is LAME. While we are at the lame level, I would like to put forth king of the hill as one of the LAMEST shows EVER.

Futurama: awesome
Family Guy: mostly good
Simpsons: not the best, but I would never AVOID watching it
South Park: same level as simpsons

I prefer Futurama to all of the listed shows, and I despise Family Guy like the epileptic Simpsons knock off it is. I still enjoy older episodes of the Simpsons, which I find quite funny, but the newer ones feel like they are reaching for ideas. But in my eyes, Anything by Matt Groening will be infinitely better than anything by Seth McFarlane.

The Simpsons were great back in the day, but eventually a shiny diamond gets scuffed and it's shine begins to fade. Alot of the newer episodes of Simpsons, and mabye also Family Guy, have gotten stale in my eyes. South Park have actually gotten more proffesional, with more relevent plots and jokes, American Dad is new, and cracks me up sometimes. Futurama is one of the best, because it is an original setting with original characters (Who here doesn't find Bender to be funnier than Homer). Every series does have to die sometimes, 441 episodes is a great achievment, if the series could improve, I might change my views, but There is not much else to do that has not already been done.

Simpsons is ok, the movie was great... I like King of the Hill a lot more, though... Futurama is pretty good too... Never really cared for Family Guy... South Park was funny for a while, but the new episodes are just stupid... The queef sisters one actually made me quit watching the show...

I used to love the early episodes of the simpson like just about everybody else, but I can no longer bring myself to watch the newer episodes which are just not funny. I feared that the movie would be like this as well but thankfully it was wasn't. Greoning should just end the simpsons now and put all his efforts back into futurama.

The Simpsons rarely makes me laugh, compared to Family Guy that always makes me giggle every episode. Futurama is better than Simpsons, and should be worked on more, mainly because I see Marcus Fenix talking into a microphone everytime Bender speaks.

Isn't Family Guy just a parody of The Simpsons (more like a rip-off) and American Dad is a parody (again...) of Family Guy?
