Edit: Wait, I can say it better.cleverlymadeup said:they do beat you over the head with the jokes and what they are doing or poking fun at and there's little to no depth to the jokes itself, ie if you don't understand the reference you won't find it funny. it's very low brow, lowest common denominator humourNazulu said:I have no idea how Borat suddenly became apart of this but I don't find that shit funny. You keep saying beating you over the head with the joke in South Park but honestly have no idea what your talking about.
ok want good examplesNazulu said:Edit: Wait, I can say it better.
You keep saying beating over the head or shock comedy with little depth and no one has a clue what your talking about.
Usually when I say something sucks I give reasons and examples of it, if you want to really make me understand where you are coming from, then your gonna have to get some of these unfunny bits from several episodes from different seasons. Why you say, well because they keep changing their style through every new season and for all I know, you could be talking about just one episode you saw.
Of course, if you can't be bothered to put that effort in for little old me then don't spit your opinions on everyone.
Well the Simpson's gets the prize for best comedy out of the lot, but being subtle or a parody doesn't make it better or funnier.cleverlymadeup said:ok want good examplesNazulu said:Edit: Wait, I can say it better.

the whole manatee thing with family guy jokes, the whole trapped in a closet, the episode where they think they are having their period
but take a look at the simpsons that go for other very subtle ones
the casino episode where Mr Burns gets all worried about germs and collects his urine in jars. it's funny without knowing that he's doing a parody of Howard Hughes
the song in the monorail episode is a perfect parody of the Music Man, however if you don't get it, it's still a funny song
the planets of the apes musical is still funny without realising it's a parody of Rock me Amadeus by Falco and that the episode was probly written for the song
or in more recent years in the Dangerous Curves episode where the flashbacks is a parody of Two for the Road
actually the Tom Cruise in the closet thing is a reference to a really old rumour that he is in fact gay and that he likes to sue anyone that implies that he is in fact gay. not minding the fact that "being stuck in the closet" is a reference to being gay but not being outNazulu said:Well the Simpson's gets the prize for best comedy out of the lot, but being subtle or a parody doesn't make it better or funnier.
Also the scenes you pointed out in South Park are very small parts of single episodes. The whole Manatee thing is a strange but funny view to show how the Family Guy writing staff gets their separate clips and Tom Cruise in the closet is poking at how silly he is. It's basically their own parody's on real life and it's original and clever.
You and me would have to sit down and watch the show together so we can point out all the things we like/hate about it. There is no way your going to convince me it's bad comedy in this conversation, I have been watching the show since it was first broadcast and I love it up till season 12, 13 not so much.
I completely agree.Merteg said:No. I find all of those shows to be little actual humor.
And guess what? I didn't understand it.cleverlymadeup said:actually the Tom Cruise in the closet thing is a reference to a really old rumour that he is in fact gay and that he likes to sue anyone that implies that he is in fact gay. not minding the fact that "being stuck in the closet" is a reference to being gay but not being outNazulu said:Well the Simpson's gets the prize for best comedy out of the lot, but being subtle or a parody doesn't make it better or funnier.

the things is with parody humour is you should still find it funny even if you don't understand what they're making fun of. it makes the joke more universal but it allows the people who understand the reference to laugh a lot but the ones who don't will still think it's funny
i don't watch south park if i can help it, never liked the show and never will
figured the whole "stuck in the closet" would have been obvious enough of what they were referring toNazulu said:And guess what? I didn't understand it.
If you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad, it's just your opinion.
Nah, never heard of it until now. Thanks for the info.cleverlymadeup said:figured the whole "stuck in the closet" would have been obvious enough of what they were referring toNazulu said:And guess what? I didn't understand it.

i thought the exact same thing, simpsons are getting old and South Park is the best.NoMoreSanity said:No, South Park is my favorite show. Simpsons just got old, and while I still watch it it's not the best.
