I'd say the only game that did snipers well was TF2. The problem with snipers is that they just break flow. What's the point of charging out and taking down scores of enemies only to be headshotted by someone way beyond killing range? It doesn't help that your typical sniper is a smug, self-satisfied asshole taking potshots.

TF2 snipers could have easily been countered by other snipers, or better yet, the spies. Additionally, they were absolutely no good when the enemies have already made their advance, prompting the use of the Huntsman, which allowed them to fight it out on the front lines. The aforementioned smug, self-satisfied asshole may accumulate kills by hiding cowardly behind the big guns, but they won't help shit with making an advance on the enemy unless they really take the initiative as a sniper. I'd say it's much more intuitive than the stupid competitive point-and-click adventureless games where your survivability is based on luck.

I hate the sniper that kills me.
I love the sniper on my team that kills the sniper that killed me.

I dont like sniping (too impatient and aggressive), but I dont hold it against other people who enjoy it or who are good at it.

1. The odds of having fun in multiplayer is indirectly proportional to the number of snipers on the map.
I think you mean "inversely proportional"
wat he said more snipers mean less fun! Naw I love games with a few snipers It's a challenge to counter sniper fighting for the high ground or a area with good cover out of sight. Moving after each kill to keep your position unknown! epic fun!

I find snipers make a nice crunch when I drive over hills.

Seriously though, the bane of any sniper is a vehicle.

Rifle?

No damage.

Mortar?

Good luck.

Grenade?

Yeah, right.

Even a jeep in the hands of somebody who isn't retarded can take out a single sniper without too much trouble.

Each role has it's strengths and weaknesses.

Sniper is Anti-Infantry.

Rock, paper, scissors.
I have to ask though... What about C4? I've blown more vehicles than can remember, love doing it too. Really hectic and nerve wrecking moment when you're dashing to plant those charges.

OT: People just need to stop whining like the little b*tches that they are.

Sorry, he's just quite obviously butthurt :p

I prefer the strategy, patience and thought that goes into sniping to a repetitive run&gun. If he or anyone else doesn't, that's their problem and another player's frustration is my advantage as a sniper, so can't say I'm bothered by players like that raging :p

Snipers in BFBC2 are not a "god" class.

Bolt Action Rifles have a low Cyclic rate.
On normal Minimum 2 shot kill unless it's a headshot.
Semi-Auto Snipers have lower refire accuracy than an Assault Rifle, Pistol or LMG.
Sniper Rifles have deal with bullet drop and travel time more due to extreme range.
No M2 Carl Gustave
No An-94 Assault Rifle
No M60
(Holy crap each class has a strong weapon)
Mortar Strike has a low Area of Effect, its better used on a Tank, building or for Area Denial.
Only a Direct Mortar Strike hit can kill a tank.
C4 requires you to run up to a tank.
Assault gets C4 too with All Kit weapons.
Motion Mines are good to provide intel to team, but do not give exact locations (similar to CoD4 UAV).
No infinite ammo unlike Assault Class.

It's called Recon.
Bad Players only snipe
Bad players never spot while using Recon
Bad Players never throw Motion Mines
Bad Players never move in on the MCOM in rush
Too many of the above bad players with Recon makes your team lose

Good Recon when paired with Good Assault or Medic can break an enemy team.

the most annoying thing is that you have to be a sniper to kill a sniper.i don't think that in bc2 they are that bad (maybe to many people play as them)but what normally gets people annoyed is when they keep dying, trying to kill the one sniper.

p.s. snipers are hardly tactical and medics are under used and uderrated(genrally haven't played bc2 in a while)

I don't know about anyone else, but in the original Halo the Blood Gulch map made for a very interesting and fun King-of-the-Hill match with snipers.
hehe yea, was a ***** to find people, especially red team with their perfect camoflage :p (or maybe i'm thinking of blue, but i know one team seemed to blend in really good with the landscape)
Well, I know that I think it was the blue team had a bit of trouble because one of the hills kind of blocked the area from view. But still, each team being lined up along the cliff wall with snipers was damned fun for a firing-squad King-of-the-Hill game.

That's where flank attacks come in, go an unexpected route (usually the long way around), them slaughter half of them from behind before they know they're being attacked, a vehicle like a jeep makes this especially easy.

i love sniping.
i especially love sniping in bc II.
thats pretty much all there is to it.
it's not just point and click, its very very close quarter as well, when you counter-sneak the other snipers. when youve done a clean headshot at extreme range, noted the pretty pink mist, and then unzoomed to relocate, the best experience comes from finding out that you were so well hidden that an enemy sniper is standing on TOP of you. cut,gut and laugh.
now that's entertainment.
and sniping is fun as hell... almost as fun as the whine from people when you cap their heads off because they dont stay in cover.

i do not see, and have never seen a problem with sniping. camping, on the other hand, is laughable and boring... and one of the reasons i do not play cs... anymore.

on an end note though, speaking of bc II: sniping with a gun is fun... sniping with a tank is great.

Snipers turn FPSs into boring point and click games. I can't think of a game that's better because of snipers.
Ever played TF2? That didn't make snipers 8 year old's lying down in one spot.

They annoy, but you can usually find a way to kill them, apart from when they're placing LOTS of Claymores because of Scavanger.

Even though I seem to wind up playing Engineer or Assault mostly in BC2, since I have all the unlocks now, here is my thought on the hate for Sniper, or any class.

I paid for my game, too. I shall play it any way I want. If you wish to control how others play, get your own server, and you can kick anyone you like.

And oh... have a nice day. :D

I HATE snipers in games, mostly since I'm one of those insane people who love close quarters. I agree with his statements, I loathe snipers, no matter how much skill it takes to be good with it. I always view them as cowards, and never be a Sniper because I know how bad it is to walk to an objective for five minutes only to be instakilled by a person taking potshots on a hillside, micspamming about how he has skills.

Or Counter-Strike, with its overpowered AWPs. /rant

you should play tf2.
You have played - 269 hours of Team Fortress 2
(Last played today)

Still don't like playing as the Sniper, I'm usually a Soldier or Engineer.

Snipers should never win an objective-based game by themselves. They also should get a lot of bad rap. After all, the whole point of using a sniper is to demoralize the opponent. The guy on the wrong end of the sniper is almost required to ***** and complain.

But there are some games like MW2 where the sniper can be very overpowered, even in its original role (and quickscoping is another matter entirely). Most games have what I like to call a loose sniper rifle; you can pull it out and fire on a target in a matter of seconds, moving around while you do so. This is contrary to the intention of a sniper rifle; they require a lot of focus and precision that you can't get by treating it like an automatic rifle. That's the real problem with the sniper, and requiring the sniper to use a bipod (which would be used in RL 99.9% of the time to steady it) would go a long way to balancing games.

Then there are games like MW2 which implement tools that allow snipers to beat any counter-sniping tactic there is. Thermal scopes in particular. One of the only ways to get around a sniper in a game like COD is smoke, and thermal scopes just shit all over it. It really is an unfair advantage.

I don't like snipers, either.

That's why I kill them. It isn't that hard if you don't move straight at them through their line of sight.
