"She showed us what she could do when she was fourteen," Lucille answered. "And please, call me Lucille. Though... did you ever learn how you gained your ability, Katie?"
"Actually, yes, I did a few days ago," Katie said, thinking back to her discussion with Camille. "Apparently I was born with some sort of... subconscious mimicry, I think. All those times you asked me to help out in our old garden must have caused the mimicking to change into plant control, because I'm fairly certain I don't have the mimic power anymore."
She paused, a thought moving to the front of her mind. "You know, it was probably pure chance that we had a garden I could easily work with. If, for instance, we had built ice sculptures, I would be able to manipulate ice. Or if we had done a lot of digging and earth-moving, I could have power over rocks and ground. Fascinating, really, now that I think about it."
"Oh... that explains a lot," Lucille replied. "Anyway, I'll be in the lounge or the study if you need me. Your father isn't up yet, so we'll give him a while to surface." With that, she left, smiling to herself.
Katie turned to Jason and asked, "So, what do you think of Mum?"
