Katie was seated between Jason and Lucille, in truth a little apprehensive about what was to come. An all-out war between the Society and the armoured suits... and that was just in Nova City. For all she knew, the team could be shipped off to somewhere completely alien to her in order to fight. Suddenly she realised what it must be like to be in the army. But then she thought back to watching TV and reading books. Anything of importance, such as where the biggest attacks took place, were usually in or near the protagonists' home town. Katie took comfort from the old cliches.
She shot a sideways look at Jason, but decided not to inquire as to why the soldier left them alone. Instead she reached over and gently squeezed his hand, more to comfort him than for her own sake. He would need all the comforting he could get once Katie talked to him about her intent. That would have to be after the war was over. The new development had forced her to change her plans.
