Neat. Thanks everyone for helping out, and giving me a heads up about any errors in the opening post. I shall update it as soon as my hands are free. Right now, on the other hand (=P) my hands are tied in another project.

Update coming soon, though =)
Thanks again =D

Still wondering if any German speakers can help me...

I guess while I'm at it, I could ask if anyone knows anything about Gaelic and runes...
I don't know Gaelic but what runes are you talking about? I know the fuþark rune system (the viking one)
I think that's the one I'm looking for. I was trying to transliterate Japanese katakana into rune names...

Oddly enough, I think I just found confirmation for some of my wild guesses: Thurisaz/þurisaz, Eihwaz, Ehwaz, and Uruz, and I think "isu" and "hagal" might be "isaz" and "hagalaz" (some things are spelled weirdly in Japanese). Still trying to figure out what KANO and TIIRU (kano and tyr?) are supposed to be.

You wouldn't happen to know what Ath nGabla is, would you?
Fehu, Uruz, Thurisaz, Ansuz, Raidho and Kaunaz are the first six runes
next five are hagalaz, naudiz, ísaz, *don't know this one*, sævelö
last five are tíwaz, berkanan, mannaz, laguz and I don't remember the last one.
But Athn might be Ansuz, Kano is probably Kaunaz and Tiiru is tíwaz which is also known as Týr. No idea what Gabla is but my guess is that it should be written Gafla hmmm
Cool, thanks!

Incidentally, the Ath nGabla question was kind of a throwaway question (based on <url=http://typemoon.wikia.com/wiki/List_of_Magic_Spells#Runes>this from Fate/Hollow Ataraxia). I was just curious if it actually meant something.

Let me see if I can't find a book (I own one just don't know exactly where it is) on the elder fuþark that was only the younger. The elder has 24 letters but the younger only 16. I'll also see if I can't dig up something on the two missing runes.

Some more info the norse names of the runes are
first 6: Fe(should be a ' over the e but the site won't show the letter)(this one is also called Freyr), Úr, Þurs, Oss (again should be a ' over the O), Reið and Kaun
next: Hagall, nauð, ís, *blank* and sól
last: Týr, birki, maðr, lögr *blank*

Edit: Found the book here is the full elder fuþark:
Freys ætt: Fehu, Uruz, Þurisaz, Ansuz, Raiðo, Kano, Gebo, Wunjo.
Hagals ætt: Hagalaz, Nauþiz, Isa, Jera, Eihwaz, Perþ, Algiz, Sowulo
Týs ætt: Teiwaz, Berkana, Ehwaz, Mannaz, Laguz, Inguz, Oþila, Ðagaz.

If you need some more help just ask here or send me a pm.
Sweet! Thurisaz (using basic ASCII characters), Eihwaz, Ehwaz, Isa, Kano, Tyr, Hagalaz, Uruz...and with that, Lancer's movelist is officially translated. You mind if I credit you in my FAQ?

Lovely idea! I myself would love to learn a bit of Swedish, Portugues, Italian, Cantonese...

I'm a native in French (Quebecois), can help in Dutch, Japanese, Latin and German. :D

What a fantastic idea. Lets hope people don't spam it like my Solutions thread (thus earning it a locking). I say well done for this thread :)

I'll only be able to help with English, and you'd already have 10,000 people ready to help you there.

Thank you. But I have thought of a problem that might occur, though. As many people tell other to PM them (Wich of course is just fine by me, but read on), it results in not very much posting in the actual thread. And hence not giving it any puplicity. And therefore it will most likely decend, and be forgotten to the majority. And when someone needs a human helping hand in the ways of language, they'll never know about this thread.

Also. I added you as Australian, if you don't mind =)

If any who speaks German or Danish (or whatever language the Einzberns of Fate/Stay Night speak) could look at the following katakana transliterations of certain moves and take some guesses, I'd appreciate it. As is, these are my BS guesses.

Burst ability - AIZEN REEMU (Eizen reim?)
Halberd super - RIZEN GESHURAI DOREEN (Risen Geshrai Drain?)
Super armor - BETTEN VAISU (Betenveiss?)
EX Attack - DORAI UM RAIFU (Drai um Life?)
"Eisen Reim"= Iron Rhyme
"Beten Weiss"= White Prayer (lit. 'praying white').

I can't figure the others out entirely, but "riesen" means huge and my best guess for the last one is that it's starting with "Drei um..." which translates to "three around." Unless they're mixing in english, 'raifu' isn't life, which is Leben (I think in Danish also). Hopefully someone with a better vocabulary can help you out with the rest.

Well if anyone wants to know anything in Lithuanian (Eastern europe), I can help you. Altho i have no idea why would you want to know something in a language that only 3 million people speak.

That's Irish Gaelic, and a bit of research comes up with 'fork-ford', i.e. a ford at a fork, I suppose. There should be an accent over the first 'a', though, I think.

Sweet, I got Beten Weiss right (eventually I remembered how w's are pronounced in German). I can change to "Eisen Reim" (which, since her burst ability gives her super armor, makes some sense). And actually, riesen meaning huge makes sense in context of her normal specials (which all begin with 大, the kanji for "large"), so maybe if I figure out what she's saying during the attack...wait, maybe it's Geschrei? Which would make the attack "Riesen Geschrei Dreien" (Great Triple Cry)...hardly the most nonsensical one I've come across.

I think the Danish word is "liv," but I doubt they'd mix Danish and German. Then again, I almost mixed German and Yiddish (Geshrei), myself...

Either way, thanks!

Cool, so that is right. Seems it has something to do with Cúchulainn holding a bridge against an invading army and defeating every one of them one by one.

Lol, the Aussie influence eh? That's rather amusing.

I think the thread is a very good idea. I have a suggestion if you're worried it might fade away, why don't you PM wilson or someone like that and see if you can get it added to that Escapist community thread? The one at the top which gives people an indication of where everything is? At least then it has some sort of anchoring point so it doesn't fade away.
