Really? Like I said, call the manufacturer because I don't see how this could be anything except a hardware malfunction.

I like my plan of just dealing with it cause I'm lazy as hell.

Always an option, try adding a third party mic and see if that shuts off the default one. It may or may not.

I have never used linex for more then 5 mins and i dont really like it.... but if i say no linux is NOT cool then Cameron (smallharmlesskitten) Will throw a gigantic temper tantrum.

I use ubuntu on my desktop right now. I really like it, everything is extremely fast. The only issue I've had with it is that Broadcom are a bunch of dicks and don't like releasing their drivers to open source kids.

I'm going into network security, so I kinda need to know linux, because a majority of servers use linux (but I still have to learn about microsoft system administration too ;_.

I feel 14" is a good size for a computer and has adequate power available for video and cpu. For reference, i use a IBM (Lenovo) T60p; great computer.

You, sir, have lost in an epic manner. You seem to be missing the point entirely - Linux isn't meant to be "cool". It's meant to work on just about every piece of modern hardware there is, all the way from things only slightly larger than an RJ45 connector all the way up to the IBM Roadrunner.

Unless you expressly want them, there are no pretty-but-ultimately-useless transparency effects, window animations, et cetera. Vista, by the way, isn't particularly cool either, what with its effete name versus the old Microsoft products (XENIX - now those were the days) and its inability to be used on anything other than a PC up to small server level - there's something to be said for an operating system that can be scaled up to the most monstrous computers in existence, which is not an attribute of Windows Vista.

OK, I accept my epic failure with as much grace as possible, but I will note that I still find "Windows Vista" to be an exceptionally effete name. The name "Linux" is somewhere around mid-scale on my list of cool operating system names, under some of the other UNIX-based operating systems like Solaris, IRIX or AIX.

Even those, however, pale in comparison to the sheer awesomeness of the name, "XTS-400", an operating system designed by BAE Systems. It sounds like a robotic callsign, and is made by an armaments manufacturing company. I expect that if this operating system had a logo, it would be a picture of a snarling attack dog.

Linux? That sounds like the name of the Peanuts kid who carries his blanket around. And that's the first thing that comes to mind when someone says "Linux". I know why this is, of course, but between Vista and Linux, I'll have to pick Vista. But I do agree that "XTS-400" sounds cooler than both.

To me, the name "Vista" points out specifically the whole "form over function" thing that I perceive from it. On the other hand, I do state that "Linux", doesn't have the impact of the names of other Unix-based operating systems, or the likes of RISC OS, but still has that "X" sound at the end, which gives it at least some impact.

On the other hand, "Windows 7" is one of the best operating system names that I've heard of in a long time, and I'm glad that they're sticking with it.

Well said. I just hope Windows 7 doesn't keep the bad rep it's going to get when it comes out.
