You don't need to spend that much. If it's just college, just get a netbook.Mr.Pandah said:So...can you guys help me get a laptop? I need it for school...I'll post the Recommended Requirements and hopefully you guys will be able to point me in the right direction...It says the price would be about 2,300 =/ That's coming out of my wallet. Once again, its a laptop for college and I want to get the most bang for my buck. Thanks.
I've always thought Alienware was overpriced and gaudy. Ever since Dell acquired them they've apparently been cutting corners a bit here and there, too.cleverlymadeup said:you do realize that dell owns and runs alienware right?

90% of my undergraduate CS work was done through an SSH connection. (So far, 90% of my real-world software engineering work has been through an SSH connection, too.)Mr.Pandah said:Its for Computer Science though as a major, it needs to run programs and what not.

So, yeah... Do netbooks have this? Once again, I'd like to reiterate, I'm not laptop savvy.
*shrug* Don't ask me, ask the college =X I'm just looking for a cost-effective way of going about this, what with the whole economic depression setting in and I'm out of a job.crimson5pheonix said:Get a macbook and install windows with bootcamp.Mr.Pandah said:Recommended Hardware Specifications:

I think a netbook is not your best bet since I assume you will be using the portable computer for number crunching. Netbooks aren't nearly as powerful or as fully-featured as the specs you posted.Mr.Pandah said:Its for Computer Science though as a major, it needs to run programs and what not.

Not gonna say what my parentals make but you shouldn't feel bad about not having a car. lol My parents are of the ideal that you get what you earn. Granted I have bought 2 cars with my own money(i'm 21) So it's worked out okay, I think I will do the same for my kids.Phantom2595 said:You have no idea how wrong that sounds . My dad makes 35 dollars an hour , and hear I am , with nary a car for myself. And you have a 08 civic and a 3 thousand dollar laptop .My Mom is a public servant and my Dad is unemployed.
Does it have the battery life required? It probably does, but make sure. Also 1400x1050 is a weird resolution.Phantom2595 said:That would be complicated , how about this . http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/CategoryDisplay?catalogId=10551&storeId=10151&langId=-1&categoryId=8198552921644570896&parentCategoryId=16154crimson5pheonix said:Get a macbook and install windows with bootcamp.Mr.Pandah said:Recommended Hardware Specifications:

That is what I would probably get if I was in your position .
But it's 900 dollars , lasts 5.5 hours and exceeds the recommended specs .crimson5pheonix said:Does it have the battery life required? It probably does, but make sure. If it has a 5.5 hour battery life it's okay. I'd go with that then.Phantom2595 said:But it's 900 dollars , lasts 5.5 hours and exceeds the recommended specs .crimson5pheonix said:Does it have the battery life required? So, that exceeds all of the recommended specs I laid out? for 900 dollars? It seems like something has to be missing! If this is true, I can't thank you enough!crimson5pheonix said:If it has a 5.5 hour battery life it's okay. You have to do two upgrades to meet the resolution requirement but even then it's still about $1,200Mr.Pandah said:So, that exceeds all of the recommended specs I laid out? for 900 dollars?
