How did Minecraft get 18th?
Why is Super Mario 64 #1?
Why is everyone in my generation a Nintendo fanboy?

Well, that's all neat and stuff, but the country list only includes US, UK, Canada and France, so I cannot really check it as a Pole.

This thread sparked a great conversation during today's game day when I was surprised at my own top ten and then tried to put together my own top 25 and realized that I couldn't. It was just too hard to pick so I was working on it during my opponent's turns (yeah sometimes they take awhile) and we all just started talking about how much fun we had had with lots of different games so I asked for their help. In the end we came up with a list of 42 games (and still others that only after much debate didn't make it but I think should have.) Oh, and I went 4-2 in today's games. Appropriate but I blame my preoccupation with this topic (and the inherent weakness of the anti-matter universe) for my losses. So thanks for the excuse! ;0)

So here's my demographic and what that voting site says is my generations top ten:

Male 1970 - 74 U.S.A. (My gaming pals are in or close to this demographic as well with one 30 year old and one only in her 20s)

1. Legend of Zelda: A Link to the past (I didn't have the right system to play this one.)
2. Super Mario World (Great game)
3. Final Fantasy VI (Again, wrong system for me)
4. Dungeon Keeper (Dungeon Who?)
5. Half-Life (I have the Orange box and enjoy the series but I don't think I've played this.)
6. Super Mario Bros. 3 (I think I played this as part of Super Mario World.)
7. Baldur's Gate II: Shadow of Awn (Outstanding Game. It got rated #9 by us though.)
8. World of Warcraft (10,000,000 folks and Mr. T. can't be wrong, right? Not my thing.)
9. Super Mario Bros (Again great game, great series, worthy of three slots? Not to me.)
10. the Legend of Zelda Ocarina of Time (Great game, I thought it would have ranked higher.)

And here is our list of what we think are collectively the 42 most fun games of all time:
NOTE: We did make a rule to avoid the repetition we saw in so many top tens that each franchise could only be represented ONCE. So thanks for that fun debate too!

1. Archon 22. Eternal Champions
2. Dues Ex: Invisible War 23. NBA Jam
3. Zelda 24. Star Wars: Jedi Academy
4. the Marvel Trading Card Game 25. Wing Commander II
5. Shenmue 2 26. Resident Evil: Code Veronica
6. Capcom VS. SNK 2 EO 27. Power Stone
7. Doom 28. Etrian Odyssey
8. Beyond Good and Evil 29. Suikoden
9. Baldur's Gate II 30. Blast Corps
10. Mass Effect 31. Ghostbusters the Video Game
11. Castlevania X: Symphony of the Night 32. Jet Set Radio Future
12. Blazblue: Continuum Shift 33. Izuna the Unemployed Ninja
13. Flashback 34. Dragon Age: Origins
14. Phantasy Star Online 35. Fallout 3
15. Twisted Metal 2 36. Luminous Arc
16. Sonic Adventure 37. Wolfenstein
17. Mechassault 38. Enslaved
18. Whacked! 39. Shining the Holy Arc
19. Hydro Thunder 40. Tron: Evolution
20. Lunar 41. Wild Arms
21. Eat Lead the Legend of Matt Hazard 42. Dracula Unleashed

I would list how and why some stuff is where it is (or how it survived to be in the list at all) but you don't want the gamer eqivalent to War n' Peace and I don't want the cramp.

Now I'd be really curious to see what lists other people would come up with if they had their usual gaming friends around to borrow their memories. I bet it would be a lot different but the debates you'll have making it will be very fun and interesting (and at points hilarious.)
So thanks again for sparking this!

It's a classic turn based strategy PC game. You basically control an organization that protects Earth from alien invaders. You research stuff, kill aliens, build bases, try to maintain a decent economy, hire soldiers/staff to man your bases e.t.c.
You forgot 'Totally rocks ass', unless that was lumped in under 'etc.'

You and your friends you should definitely go to the site and make your list.
I've checked your demographic and only 12 people took part in it. I'm sure that if you and your buddies make a Top 25, it will a great influence on your demographic list.

Many of my friends are fans of Forza 3 and the game is now on top of my demographic (Male,French, 80-84).

And respect for having Flashback and Wing Commander II in your Top 42.
They're both in my Top 25 [http://www.unikgamer.com/users/papissama-1.html] and pretty high at that :)

1. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
2. The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
3. Super Smash Bros. Melee
4. Pokemon Gold and Silver
5. Super Mario 64
6. Resident Evil 4
7. Pokemon Red and Blue
8. Chrono Trigger
9. Final Fantasy X
10. Super Mario World

None of these games would make it on my top 10 list, but I do like 1, 2, 3, 4, and 7. I don't really like Super Mario 64, and I haven't played the rest--nor do I plan to.

Male, all countries, '85-'89

#1 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
#2 Final Fantasy VII
#3 Chrono Trigger
#4 Half-Life 2
#5 Final Fantasy X
#6 Resident Evil 4
#7 Metal Gear Solid
#8 Portal
#9 Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater
#10 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

Weird list. Sure, I love many of the games, but what's with all the JRPGs? Especially FF (5 FF games in the top 15).

(Mention for Shadow of the Colossus, my favo game, in 11th place ^^)

Male; '84 - '89, international, because apparently there are only four countries in the world that count and Britain is 4-in-1 it seems. God I gotta update my geographics.

Man, this list just doesn't work out for me. I get shit like
Final Fantasy 7
Final Fantasy 10
Final Fantasy 8
Final Fantasy 9
Final Fantasy Tactics
and World of Warcraft

but no Killer7
no Shadow Hearts
and no REZ

Strangely, Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath locks in at 337.
(note I didn't mention Final Fantasy 6 in my 'shit'-list)

I guess I'm not like the typical Canadian male from '75 to '79. On the list, there was only one that I had even played.
It probably just mean that more people from your demographic need to share their own list :)

Male, UK, '90-'94

1. Half-Life 2 - This was kind of cool, I guess.
2. Uncharted 2: Among Thieves - This sucks.
3. Portal - This was pretty good.
4. Final Fantasy X - This is awesome.
5. Mass Effect 2 - This was bleh.
6. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion - This was alright.
7. Super Mario Galaxy - This was meh.
8. The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - This is awesome.
9. Final Fantasy IX - This is pretty damn good.
10. Pokemon Gold/Silver Versions - These are the most awesome Pokemon games ever.

Yeah, that list's alright, although there's a couple I don't care for personally. I guess it's time to make my own top 25 I guess and throw my input and opinions into the smelting pot of the Interwebs.

It might take a while which games deserve such an honor, but you'll see it's pretty fun to do :)

Male, United States, 1985-1989.

#1 The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time
#2 Chrono Trigger
#3 Final Fantasy VII
#4 Final Fantasy X
#5 Portal
#6 The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past
#7 Resident Evil 4
#8 Final Fantasy VI
#9 Shadow of the Colossus
#10 Half-Life 2

I've only ever played 2 of those games (OoT and Link to the Past), and I wouldn't consider ANY of those 10 games as my favorites of all-time.

Some of my favorites that do appear further down the list include: Super Mario World (#11), Super Smash Bros. Melee (#16), Super Mario 64 (#25), Pokemon Gold/Silver (#26), Mass Effect (#27).

Here's a link to my newly created top 25 list from that website: http://www.unikgamer.com/users/metallicarulez0-1260.html
