Yoshi's Island should be higher than any other Mario game. Including SMW, 64, & Galaxy. It was just fantastic, possibly the best use of 2D mechanics, particularly in the bonus levels where it started to get punishing.

I also echo what others have said about Pokemon first gen-- if it's higher than the others, that's generally because of nostalgia. The formula's the same in later iterations, but with vastly improved battle systems and graphics quality.

(I wouldn't put Goldeneye 64 as high as that, either. Top 100, yes; top 10, no. It's lacking in so many ways that just went unnoticed when I was littler).

It's funny that there's so much bitching about that list, because it's pretty dead on and impressivley unswayed by a bunch of noobs going "but Mass Effect and Halo, and Call Of Duty!!!!....."

The vast amount of Nintendo games on the list comes from the fact that Nintendo makes some of the very very best games of all time. And until very recently that was a very very regular fact of life.

My issue with the list is a few games that don't deserve to be on there (Skyward Sword), a couple it's missing (Fallout, Arcanum), and a lot of duplicates in the form of actual duplicates (Half-Life 2:Episode 2 & The Orange Box...), expansions that should be lumped together with the base game (Diablo 2 and Lord of Destruction, AoE2:Age Of Kings and The Conquerors), and remakes (HeartGold/Soulsilver).

There's even a damn impressive number of relatively obscure games that deserve massive acclaim.

All time lists never contain games from the c64/Spectrum era :/
At the very least they should have to include Sid Meier's Pirates!

Anyway, the list is missing a number one...where is X-Com: UFO Defense?

How's this doing?
You got a few games in the wrong sections. Zelda 2 was on the NES, not SNES. Metroid 2 was on the GB, not GBC. There are possibly more.

OT: I didn't read the list, but if OoT is number one it's already wrong, because Majora's Mask was better. :p

Yoshi's island was cool but really? I don't think it was on par with Mario World never mind some of the later games

A half decent list - but then it is a user list and not a critic one.

My good man, are you absolutely gosh darn high for suggesting that the list is even half competent? I mean, there are eight zelda games, thirteen mario games (including mario karting 7), 4 generations of pokemon + pokemon yellow and Gears of War 3. Sure, the list has some good games, but if we want to say Best Of All Time, we'd have to cut off so much fluff that this list would be top 25 at best.

Yeah at first glance I was impressed with some of the more out there choices.. but it's not a good list.

There's no Grand Theft Auto on the list, and GTA popularised an entire genre and has the slots for no1 and no2 best selling games of all time. GTA San Andreas should have made the cut (I don't even like the games myself)

A good 100 list, I should be able to pick a genre and it's inventor, populariser and repopulariser should be there. With this list that isn't true of most genres.

FPS: No Doom, no Wolfenstein, no Quake, no Halo, no CoD IV

Puzzle: No Tetris

MMO: No World of Warcraft

RTS: No Command and Conquer or Dune, although they did include Starcraft and Warcraft 3 so there's some lee way there. No Dungeon Keeper, but that might be personal preference

Sims: No Sims. No Sim City

Management: No theme park games, no tycoon games, no theme hopsital

Racing: No Gran Turismo or other realistic racer. No Need for Speed, no Burnout. And Mario kart 7? Seriously?

Fighting: No Street Fighter, no Tekken

Sports: No Fifa, no Madden, no Tony Hawk, no SFX

No Planescape: Torment, no Fallout, no Total War games and Age of Empires 2 deserves to be on the list, but not twice. It's expansion was an improvement, but it's not like it radically changed the face of the game. There's also too many sequels in general. They should have picked one God of War game (no Devil May Cry?), a handful tops of Mario games. One Pokemon, one Metal Gear, FFIX shouldn't be on there. (but I'll accept VI, VII and X. There were different styles and eras and all marked important points for RPGs). I reckon critics make better lists than popular vote because they can think about how it fits together. And people don#t tend to vote for games they haven't played which creates bias

EDIT: Uncharted 3 doesn't belong on the list. It was the game that showed the cracks of the franchise. Uncharted 2 rightfully deserves it's place and if you're going to include sequels, Uncharted 1 also. Uncharted 3 was good, but not top 100 good.

Super Mario Galaxy 1 AND 2? In the very TOP TEN? Was the list commissioned by Nintendo, by any chance? What is this, comedy?

Ummmm....not a noob, and I think I got a pretty good case for Doom being on that list...
Doom would make a list of the most IMPORTANT games of all time, but being one of the best of all time is iffy. Same goes for other important games like Goldeneye.
NOT actually that good if you go back and play them now.
A lot of old games don't hold up, but then a lot of them actually do...like all the Mario, Zelda and Pokemon games. The fact that they hold up over time and the vast span of time they've been coming out...that's why there are so many Nintendo games.

Some Nintendo fan boys appear to have had their sticky little hands in that list.
Oh, and there is no way that Skyrim is the best Elder Scrolls, and Wind Waker should have been way further up the list of Zelda games, and Mario should appear on that list only once, they are all the same game after all. I genuinely think that the people who compiled that list are cretins.

Sorry for the double post, I don't know how to get rid of it.

>No Battlezone 1998
>Mother 2 instead of Mother 3 (surprises me)
>The Orange Box and Half-Life 2 and Half-Life 2: Episode 2 all on the same list
>Ocarina of Time is #1
>Virtually every pokemon game that exists
>Gears of War

Oh, please.

80% of these games are from the last decade or nostalgic hit games like pokemon.
Not enough Duke Nukem 3D, Quake, Might and Magic III, or Army Men. God, I loved Army Men.
Maybe I have my nostalgia goggles on too, but I know BZ was a good game.
