She basically set a trap for trolls from the video game board on 4chan knowing that they would lash out with misogynistic rage. This would create controversy and generate traffic and many feminists who wouldn't have donated, donated in order to show their support. In addition to this many male gamers where guilt tripped into donating, because they wanted to prove that not all male gamers where sexist. I don't believe that anywhere near the majority, or even half of the funds will go to her project, because she's rich enough to afford all 3 consoles, and already had a nice camera and studio to film it in. What could she use the funds for? It's more likely that she pocketed it. Also, her ideology is kind of bad and think this video explains why better than I can.

She set a trap for the trolls, did she? Is that how trolls work? They're perfectly content to mind their own business and not bother anyone? They have to be tricked into trolling people?

How about this: don't worry about it. Apparently you were clever enough to see through her cunning ruse and avoid giving her any money, so you've lost nothing. Well done. As for the videos, if you don't like them, don't watch them.

Really, this again?
So she deceived trolls for attention (she used their misogynistic views for...evil purposes?) and guilt tripped poor male gamers into giving her more money than she ever needed so she could get rich? You know, even if this is entirely true, I don't see how its her fault if people are just so easily manipulated. Her old content is on YouTube so you could watch it and judge for yourself if its worth donating for her little documentary. The information is all there, why move the blame to her if people just let themselves be let by the nose? More people should just learn to live and let live.

Judging from the contents of the video, it was made just for people who would like more ammo to criticize her. She is using other peoples opinions in her master thesis? Say it is not so! She should write her master thesis only based on her own opinions, like any self respecting student does!

We are now officially beating a dead horse with another dead horse, can we please just let this go?

If you don't like her, don't watch her videos. Done

You know, if I was the paranoid, cynic that I am...Oh wait, I am.
Erhm, anyway; When you think about it, this entire thread is just one big troll-trap, waiting the flamewar to erupt.

She trolled 4chan, profited from it by being able to create and fund the project she wanted?

Well played on her part.

Personally i find her videos intresting to watch and regardless if she "set a trap" the point is it still highlighted the fact there are a huge number of misoginst cunts. By riling them up and getting people to take notice she managed to get others myself included who havn't really experienced the dick headedness of some gamers to want to make a difference.

Yes i contributed but i didn't do it to absolve my conscience, i felt she had something worth saying and i wanted her to say it.

Anyways can we please stop fucking harping on about this shit :/

Christ you americans love your sensationalism, Sarkeesian is doing it, the guy in the video is doing it and you OP are right there with them.
And this is why nothing of value will ever come out of all this, but hey she got $160 grand out of it.

Heavily moderated comments section. Telling her viewers not to inform themselves about the things she's talking about and refusing to show them what she's talking about. Listing off a bunch of topics that can never be art, or explored in art.

I very much dislike this behaviour...

So this excuses their misogyny somehow? It is now invalid to say that the community will attack her for being a woman because she predicted it would happen, and that makes it her fault?

And this proves what? Links to topics 4chan doesn't like are always found on 4chan before a shitstorm happens. Basically because 4chan starts the shitstorm. Seen this several times.

You know, even if she was trolling 4chan or not, I think the money she received for her troubles should send a clear warning to all these pricks that if you start flaming people with misogyny like this, you might see a backlash against it that benefits the person you flamed in more ways than you could imagine (in this case, by donating to her Kickstarter).

Now I personally don't give two hoots about Sarkeesian, but thanks to this incident maybe, just maybe, the flamers will be a little more careful in the future when it comes using these kinds of slurs.

Then again I might be a bit too optimistic...

A "bit" is an understatement. I visited 4chan once after the Kickstarter was over and none of those idiots was capable to have the insight that maybe, just maybe they were at fault that something they did not like and tried to silence in every possible way was more than "just" successfull (she was rather successfull by reaching somewhat over 20k to begin with).
Guess we are going to need something more drastic. Then again, groups that engage in circle-jerking will probably have a hard time getting penetrated by any epiphanies or hard lessons.

Of course what we might be seeing is simply something getting worse before it gets better. The predators may be getting all antsy because some groups are becoming less acceptable targets to pound, so to speak.

Okay, I'll stop myself here before I go overboard on the phallic double entendres.
