Everyone who comes here should be welcomed and not have people posting comments--however uncommon--saying their sexuality is sick.

"It's good enough" isn't good enough.

I like how you quoted one part of my comment, yet clearly didn't read the rest of it, otherwise you'd know what you just said was complete rubbish.

As a fellow gay, I applaud you sir.
This is what I try to tell bigots whenever they bring it up.

Oh boy it's this thread again
Seriously, I don't hate homosexuals, so why do you keep bothering me with these "Leave the homosexuals alone!" threads?
It's already been established very much on the escapist that we are tolerant of homosexuals in various polls and threads like these
This is really the only thing I am against of homosexuals, the in your face attitude that they need to have about their homosexuality at times, trying to empower themselves in front of people they don't need to.

Also the title is quite misleading

Also, advertisement Capacha? What?
Probably because homosexuals still face alot of discrimination so people will continue to speak about it to spread awareness of the topic? Just because you don't see the discrimination doesn't mean it isn't there, as long as people experience it they'll continue to talk about it.
And I don't understand the in-your-face thing, I haven't met many gays who will openly even admit that they are. It's a rarity.
Likely the reason you think they're ALL in your face is because the only ones you notice are the ones who make it known...

Considering the 6 pages of mostly agreeing people, it doesn't seem to be rubbish to many others.

But hey, if you are as sick of these threads as you say, why post in one? Feel free to leave and ignore it entirely.

OP, you win the Internet. Seriously. I've not seen better arguments against homophobia on forums like this.

I'd expected something rather different from the title and was expecting to strongly disagree with the OP.
Me too........ I was ready to rage on this guy and call him a complete homophobic git.

( side note when I was little I thought the abbreviation homo meant homophobe not homosexual because it was completely illogical to, and my brain couldn't comprehend insulting someone by calling them gay.)

You have obviously never been bullied for an extended period of time.

My entire 6th grade year was so horrifying I'd be lying if thoughts of suicide didn't cross my mind. But I made it to 7th, found decent human beings and the rest is history. But some people have to deal with much more than just one school year of that shit. And some of them just flat can't take it.

I am sorry to hear that....

And now I get they you were being ironic, however I have met people IRL who have said almost that exact sentence entirely and meant every word of it. So yeah, that is why I didn't take it as such.

Title should be "victims of homophobia" thought it's a nice hook as it is... though too many people don't read the first post and just respond to the title.

Fluoxetine, I just want to say one last thing. People don't always figure out their sexuality right off the bat because, as I said, sexuality isn't black and white. Now that you're an adult, you simply need to understand and accept the reasoning behind his decisions and put yourself in his shoes. I know a girl who figured that she was bisexual at 10, while I also know that there are men and women that have kids and only end up discovering that they're homosexual later in their life. Or they pretended that they were heterosexual to fit in, to the extent that they formed a relationship and family purely because they were that afraid that their family and friends would find out and subsequently ostracize them.

Look, I don't know you or your father, or how he went about coming out the closet, so perhaps I'm not in the best position to be making judgements. Of course he has a responsibility, just as everyone, regardless of their sexuality or lack thereof, does. But you're sounding a bit selfish, not emphasizing with your father and putting a part of the blame on him rather than all of it on the bullies and this disgusting society that still percieves heterosexuality to be "the norm", when there is no norm, especially considering how much we humans have evolved in terms of knowledge, science, etc.

As for the "nature vs nature" debate, I think it's probably a combination of the two.

If people think that homosexuality is wrong because it's "against nature", then I guess we should all just start living like wild animals and throw our money into a wood chipper, because things like politics and economy are "against nature". Maybe we should kill chickens for food using our bare hands without cooking it, because otherwise, it would be "against nature". Maybe we shouldn't wear condoms and risk getting STDS, but it's OK because no condoms = more children, right? Otherwise, that would be "against nature". I could go on, but I think people get my point.

or non-molesting pedophile
Ok, this is the bit I can't agree on. Non-molesting or no, these people shouldn't get a free pass unless they are doing something to deal with their problems. Most child molesters started out as non-molesting. Many consider themselves "child lovers" and don't think what they are doing is harmful to the child. Bullshit. These people need counseling and possibly chemical castration.

It certainly doesn't help the homosexual/lesbian/bisexual/transgender cause by associating them with pedophiles. And truly, not all people should be treated with tolerance. We didn't treat the Nazis with tolerance. We don't, or shouldn't, treat bigots and misogynists with tolerance. Tolerance implies acceptance.

While I understand wanting to defend those with the tendencies who don't act on them, simply not acting on them isn't sufficient when the stakes are that high. And when we start tolerating and accepting it, it becomes the norm. I certainly don't want to bring a child into a world where its ok for people to sexualize them.

I'm going to ask you this once, and with all due etiquette.

Please... don't... go there.
