The Wii is a great console. The Virtual Console for example is a brilliant idea and allows you to play many great classics. WiiWare also is a great platform for indie games and there are truly some pearls to find there.

Of course the Wii, being the best-selling console, has a lot of shovelware available for it, just like the NES and PS2. I don't really see this as a problem though sine you can simply not buy those games. Of course some genres (like the FPS) are underrepresenteted on the platform but the many other great and original titles for the platform more than make up for it. Most Wii bashers here (at least the ones commenting above) simply never bothered to try any Wii game not made by Nintendo and therefore believe the good games in its catalogue are limited to that company.

There are just enough games to warrant keeping, most WiiWare games, Virtual Console, backwards compatibility, motion controls (sorta), games are more varied in styles than other consoles, and cheap price.

Wow, can't believe I got through that without making fun of the Wii. I'm getting good at this.

And many Wii owners don't care about the lack of First-Person-Shooters, considering the market's apparent need to saturate the market with them.

I am really, really disapointed with my wii. I was expecting great FPSs to be developed and played on it, but no. all I see stocked on the shelves are corny, childish games, one half being mildly fun, and half of them are sponsored by TV shows like 'are you smarter than a 5th grader?' and 'Hannah Montana'

I will gladly trade my wii for a 360.
Your problem is that you bought a console expecting something that you did not receive. Nintendo, nay, NO companies made promises to bring FPS to the Wii. Therefore, you expected something that was not promised. Research your console before you buy, and you will not be disappointed.

But while you're whinging about your lack of FPS, I'm going to enjoy my action-adventures and ridiculously amusing Raving Rabbids.

Glorified N64 in my opinion.
Easy Games. Well... for me anyways
Though it does have classic staples, albiet a bit repetative staples. I mean you can only continue
a story for so long before you find the master sword for the 12th time
and really, my 360 only broke down once now it works wonderfully.
Much more crashes reported on my friends Wii

So I challenge you, how many positive remarks can you make about the Wii without lying to yourself. Try it, it's harder then you'd think.
It's the first and currently only motion sensing console with 1:1 motion, albeit most games haven't implemented 1:1 motion because it wasn't released on time. Then again, even without 1:1 motion, any game that uses the pointer works flawlessly. Speaking of working flawlessly, aiming and killing things by pointing at the screen makes dual analog controls feel cumbersome. But I honestly can't understand why anyone even enjoys using dual analog at all, so I'm sure most gamers don't care about that opinion, either.

Yes, the online is balls, the interface is limited, the graphics are long outdated, the downloadable content lacks real effort on Nintendo's part and even casual games aren't produced fast enough to be relevant. All of this is true, but the Wiimote makes the console and I think it's the most comfortable and convenient control method available for almost any game - and on the few games that motion sensitivity is completely useless (Brawl, many other fighting games, racing games) I use the classic controller. In my perfect world, the classic controller would be shaped like a gamecube controller, have the button layout of a 360 controller, and rumble like a Playstation controller (it's a bit stronger, no?), but as it stands, it's worth what you pay for it.

The most positive thing I can say about the Wii is that even though it is flawed, it offers things that the other competitors simply don't - things worth experiencing. Plus, it's a lot more fun to play with people who have almost no interest in video games.

I don't need to there are videos right here on the site from Yahtzee. Just choose one on a wii game and have fun. And before you say that I'm just hating. I had a wii bought it at launch played it for a few months it realized that it was crap and sold it. It was really a waste of time and money on my part.(Although I do make an exception for "No more Heroes", I liked that one)

So do you get all your reasons for not liking or liking games from Yahtzee or do you occasionally have an original opinion.
Yahtzee is a critic, his job is to say what HIS opinion on the game is, I watch some of his reviews, while funny and come up with good points every person has different tastes, while you think the Wii is crap, I think it is a well built console and has some good games it's not an epic fail, it's like the ps3 it's fine and all but there are only a few games out yet, know why? Because it has only been out for like a year, the 360 has taken a long time to build up a good library of games to play.

No it's not.

Great selection of games, with decent variety between them. Motion controls enhance the experience a good amount when they're implemented well. Virtual Console is an incredible service, and WiiWare is getting to be pretty good, too. There's plenty of great games scheduled for release in 2010, both from Nintendo and third-party companies. Oh, and it's the only place where you can get games like Super Mario Galaxy, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, No More Heroes, and Zack & Wiki.

And that is why the Wii is still my only current-gen console.

oh haha I'm not trying to start an argument I agree with yahtzee I had gotten rid of my wii before I started watching zero punctuation. My biggest problem with the wii is its very very very limited stack of good games. Wii sports for fun for a few weeks but it got old and there wasn't any games that interested me. I hate Smash Bros. Mario and Zelda are boring. Maybe if it had more good games and less shovelware I would be kinder too it.

it has a good selection of downloadable games.. wait...
it's games have got original characters... no...
ummm.... it appeals to gamers over 3... that's not it either...

well I guess it does have that minigame that, if you squint real hard, looks like dead rising. it's called chop till you drop if I recall correctly.

the wii has about 4 good games that aren't about the 4 quintillionth game in the series.
(how many times can i use the hookshot before... OH YEAH! NOW I GET TO USE TWO! now I can pretend I'm playing a better game, like a crappy spiderman game.)

It has No More Heroes, and allows me to play Super Mario 64 without digging through eBay for an N64 and cartridge.

Given that I haven't sold it yet (and, in fact, have been playing it quite a bit this week) it might be reasonable to suggest that those two games alone are enough justification for its existence. Super Mario Galaxy is fun too.
