The Wii is good for casual play - yes I said it! Simple pick up and play, leave for 6 months, then pick up and play again, games.

I'm a casual gamer, yeah, but I started out playing Chuckie Egg 20 years ago, so I'm atleast an educated gamer. The Wii does have good games, for gamers.... I like to think of my Wii as a proper home arcade (just need Sega Rally! ARE YOU LISTENING SEGA!!!!....... oh)

I've always loved my Wii. It is my primary console. The Xbox 360 just sits there in my room making sure my papers don't fly all over the place. (Really. I use my 360 once every two days)
*gasp*

How dare you have different views then us. Sorta liking the Wii is one thing, but to not play your 360 every day? You make me sick. [/sarcasm]

I'm sorry to say the wii is an epic FAIL......sorry wii fans.
Look for good things...
The both of you are incredibly naive. The whole thing is a matter of opinion. Saying the Wii is an epic fail is a point of view, not a fact. I enjoy the Wii, and I like all my gaming platforms fairly equally, because they all do different things well. That is just my opinion; one may think the Wii is a waste of time, while another may think it wins the console wars hands-down. There is no right answer in the question of whether the Wii is good or not, or most things for that matter.

Well, after like 3 or 4 beers, the wii games are actually pretty fun. No thinking just button mashing with friends on brawl. Sheesh you try playing COD4/5 when you're loaded... I was like a slow motion bullet magnet...
Sounds like you just justified people paying hundreds of pounds/dollars for a console, to get drunk and play games.

Except you didn't. Try playing The Conduit, MadWorld, No More Heroes, Tatsunoko vs Capcom, Resident Evil 4, and a host of other games while you're drunk. It's no fun. I've tried it. Consequently, I've played CoD 4 while drunk on the 360, and I was amazing in comparison to how I am on the 360 while sober (terrible, I'm a PC/Wii gamer when it comes to shooters).

That was kind of aimed at you, and people who say the 'buying a Wii is mainly good for playing games when drunk', which just grinds my shit to a fine powder, especially when afterwards they complain about it collecting dust.

The whole problem with the wii is that it has been lacking in good exclusive titles. Major nintendo titles like Mario and Zelda are fine and well, but it's been a long time since Twilight Princess and Galaxy. Nintendo is working on new ones but who knows how long it will take for them to put out good titles?

Third party developers have also been avoiding the wii. Instead, they make shit like imagine babiez and movie tie ins to cash in on stupid kids.

Controls, graphics, crazy peripherals don't matter. It's like complaining about your fork and spoon being to small, when you should be worrying about the lack of food on your plate.

I've been a wii owner since summer 2007, and I haven't brought a game for it since the Smash Bros. I'm starving. (metaphorically)
I liked that, good metaphor. IMHO, the Wii has enough great titles, but perhaps not as many 'core' titles as other consoles. Hell if you were to get an avid Wii gamer to stack up how many titles they consider to be good to a PS360 owner, it would be fairly similar IMO. But obviously the problem is appeal. I can understand certain games lacking appeal, but I can't understand when people say the Wii lacks good exclusive titles, there are plenty, and I'll go as far to say that the Wii has around the same amount of core exclusives as the other consoles.

Alright, anyone else in here getting a bit psyched about No More Heroes 2: Desperate Struggle? There's a reason to buy the Wii. It seems to be fixing most, if not all, the minor little flaws in NMH1.

Sorry for the mostly irrelevant post. It had to be said.
When Travis said "this isn't a battle any more...it's a mother fucking WAR!", I had to squeal like a little girl who just got a pony for christmas. That game is going to be so amazing, too many good games coming out for 2010 across all platforms, but Q1 2010 is going to be a clusterfuck.

Everyone keeps talking about Madworld, but isn't that game only good because it's bloody and on the Wii? If Madworld were to be released on the Xbox, you all know that no one would give a shit about it.

Has anyone ever played Super Mario Galaxy? It's incredible! The best platformer of this generation without a doubt. There's a reason it won so many game of the year awards. Zelda isn't bad either, Metroid too and of course SSBB. All fantastic games, and it pulls it off without an M rating. Saying that the Wii has forgotten it's original audiences is ridiculous. They gave you a Mario game, they gave you a zelda game, a metroid game, a new pokemon generation, a smash bros game, and a kart spinoff, what more do you want? They even made you a mario party game and gave you virtual console. Casual gamers don't really play this stuff. It was all for you!

Seriously...just lock this.
Well actually the reason I made this was because I have a Wii and I'm trying to justify it's existence, of course I'm not above taking a cheap shot at it though. So why do you want this locked? No one else does, and you haven't even given a reason.
Cause there are countless threads on "help me justify my game system" or this is why i like my system, and what bothers me about others in comparison...and they all turn out ugly and identical. Not trying to be an eliteist prick or nuthin just saying. If you like your system and your games then play it. There's no reason to fear, or have to convince yourself its okay not being a "hardcore gamer" It is what it is. Play it or don't. Video games are indeed just games. They are meant to be played, and are meant to be FUN; no matter what your definition of the word is.

FACT: There is nothing hardcore about sitting on a couch and pressing buttons. We're all just a bunch of video game nerds. And you should be proud of it. Nothing wrong with just being a gamer. Dubbing yourself the title of hardcore is lame anyway. So deal.

Virtual console is great for those who couldn't play some of the games the older generation has. It also has the best backward compatibility of the current generation of consoles that I've seen. Also, Zelda. I love Zelda. [small]yay[/small]

uuh. Brawl is good, motion control was initially a cool concept even though it didn't work as well as expected

Fair enough: It has creative controls, fun titles, great downloadables, local multiplayer (something too many games are missing these days), is great for parties, and remains one of my (and my family's) favorite entertainment systems, despite the fact that "hardcore gamers" like you label it as "casual". Seriously, isn't it all just about how much fun you have with it? And I have a lot of fun with mine, so please, stop mindlessly bashing it.
I don't think the Wii is a casual console, I think that's how it's being marketed and used.
And thus it is. Sorry but seriously if it's called a hammer and does the job of a hammer it is probably a hammer.

OT: I've never had that great of a problem with the motion sensitivity, it does have a good number of deserving games on it, i.e. Zelda, the Mario thing, Brawl was alright for a while, I haven't actually played anything new on it to be honest, but maybe I'll get the new Zelda thing in a few years when it comes out due to the whole WII Plus thing.

It's the least expensive console, has a very low rate of failure (like most Nintendo consoles), has a very large amount of exclusives, and appeals to more age groups than any other console.

It has Zelda, Metroid and Mario, which i guess is one of the main reasons people get nintendo.
SSBB it really awesome, if you're more than one player... single player is kinda booring as with most other fighters.

Motion controll can work well, like in MP:C for instance.
