So while you think a game you're playing is good, I can explain to you exactly why it sucks.
I really tried to keep myself from posting on this thread, but when I read this comment I just could not keep to myself anymore. I'm just amazed at the level of bigotry I see on this thread judging from the posts I've read so far. I just keep asking myself: do you guys even enjoy video games? I ask this because you guys jump on a system (be it the wii or the PS3) like if they where you're sworn enemies. I mean I can understand if you guys simply said "I don't like the wii or the PS3, I don't enjoy the type of gaming those systems bring to the table"; that is way more understandable and substantial than technically proving to me that the wii is bad and nobody should be enjoying it. People keep on telling themselves that the gaming industry is headed in the wrong path, that it has changed for the worse, etc. But to me the REAL problem with the industry is the consumer and the level of arrogance and elitism they display whenever something is not going their way. Console wars have always existed, but this is not even a console war, this is just a bunch of guys feeling superior to others who just happen to enjoy themselves with what they consider childish (and some of you, like the poster I quoted, have the nerve to say that they can prove that nobody should like it... and actually try to prove it). It's beyond me how a gaming divice can be so threatening for some of you, I don't understand how some people can become so aggrivated when they know that others are enjoying something that was actually concieved for that sole purpose; it's a real sad afair, considering that time has demonstrated to us that it only gets worse.

And I tip my hat to you, sir. That was an eloquent and well thought out paragraph that shows ideas rarely seen in these parts. Well done.

I fail to see how a system that is built off of motion-sensing technology is not treading into new territory, while the other two systems, which are still using the generic joystick and button pressing technique are trailblazers. Every generation of consoles have been, more or less, built off of the basic joystick + button format with just graphical/audio/storage upgrades with each release. The Wii is trying to do something different. Sometimes it has succeeded (RE4, No More Heroes, CoD: World at War) and other times it hasn't (Red Steel, Prince of Persia, large group of shovelware.)
The wii is doing nothing different. Motion sensing controls have been around since the ps1 era. The ps3 was announced to have motion controlls before the wii, but sony made less of a big deal, seeing as its not really an innovation, using 10 year old tech

It's not a threat, it's an annoyance.
Besides, my beef is not with the Wii itself, it's with the Wiimote not allowing certain types of games.
But every console won't allow certain types of games, the Xbox and 360 won't allow traditional types of RTS's or lightgun games (not without lots of peripherals anyway). Or even military sims like ARMA. Some games just don't work on some platforms, developers should realize this and make the right game for the right platforms.

Well the Wii is marketed to kids, you don't see Hannah Montana on the 360 or PS3, and kids just want what looks cool, they don't give a damn for playability or storyline, I am surprised that this kind of stuff hasn't already been done on other consoles.
I must disagree. I'm 13 and I look for what has the best playablity and storyline. Ever since I got my first video game console, the ps2 when it launched. I only got games with wonderful storylines. Like Beyond Good & Evil or Shadow of the collusus o god of war or ico. I also got games with fun playablity like Ratchet & Clank, Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter (way better than the Jak games), and I never really liked grand theft auto or halo even though all of my annoying 6 year old classmates always talked about how they played halo or gta and said it was so cool. And I was like "well, I bet you don't even know what Beyond good & evil is" and they were like "well it sounds pretty gay." And that is why they are noobs, forever! But I don't think every kids just wants what looks cool. Actually I believe that every kid BUT me is like that, but that might be because I knew about beyond good & evil when I was 6.
How on earth did you or six year old children acquire Mature games? Game stores cannot by law sell mature games to people under the age they were made for without threat of being sued as well as other legalities these days. I find a flaw in your entire statement that a classroom full of children barely able to read and write are playing "Grand Theft Auto" and "God of War"

Through there parents? I knew people who were 8 when GTA 3 came out and played it shortly after release. The same people also played God of War on release. If you think that rating a game M or 18 stops Primary school children from playing it then well you overestimate most parents.

Last I checked the statistics showed that the Wii has more OLDER gamers than the other consoles which counters the claim that it's aimed at kids. Kids are part of the old core market, they aren't the new people Nintendo got with the Wii.

Sure there are RTSes on the 360. There was StarCraft on the N64. That doesn't mean people like playing them with the controller.

You seem to have the oppinion that that which does not appeal to you is garbage. Well, if we can apply that metric... The entirety of gaming this generation is garbage. An endless flood of brown "gritty" games that think they're the new Hollywood and bombard the player with stories that would embarrass a B-movie but still take forever to play out their narmtastic cutscenes. But hey, they got the rest down: Gigantic, zero-imagination "blockbusters" that do the same things you did last gen except with more eye-raping bloom and even more dumbed down difficulty for even higher prices. Oh, wait, dumbing stuff down for the casual gamers (which back then made up the entirety of the console userbase) was the big trend last gen too, I forgot.

Fortunately my personal oppinion about the current state of the game industry is not the absolute truth that everybody must bow to.

What makes a good game is subjective. You can think and even prove with ten different charts that a game is crap, if the person who plays it enjoys it the game is obviously a good game for him because it fulfills the purpose it was purchased for. Value depends on the perspective but there is only one perspective (that of the customer) that matters. I could say the Xbox 360 is a much better value than the Wii because of the better technology and extra features X, Y or Z but that means nothing to most people for whom the value of the 360 is exactly 0 because it doesn't do what the Wii does.

But then again I think all this "X is killing gaming" crap was already flung at the DS and supposedly even the NES (by the computer gamers back then).

As far as I know, the analog sticks allow any current type of game to be made. Name it. The Wii doesn't. I name it: Fighting games and beat them ups.
However, by excluding beat-em-ups you are restricting the use of the Wiimote. I played Brawl, and I liked it. The solution wasn't to plug in a GC controller, but to merely turn the Wii-mote sideways, to use it in a more traditional manner. Just because it has motion controls doesn't mean that the Wiimote must be used in such a "gimmicky" way.
So, really, the Wii can do any genre of game, as long as the controls are thought out well enough.
Not all genres can take advantage of the motion controls, but can remain equally playable with the same controller.

This is the kinda of logic that got Obama elected president. It's been said several times that there are critical faults in the Wii's design that make it difficult to make games for. Yet, this has to be construed as a cop-out because it doesn't fall in line with the opinion that the Wii was made by Christ and is above reproach. Same with the shovelware arguments. The Wii cannot possibly have bad games, because it's the Wii and it's a gift from God himself. And it can't possibly be a fad because that would assume that it's appeal is lasting and not temporary, which would again fault it's divinity.

Grow up, please...
Somehow, I don't think you read my post. Either that, or you quoted the wrong person. If you looked, I never once said there were no bad games on the Wii. Every console has its fair share of bad games, and its fair share of good games. Critical faults? You make it sound like the Wii has HEUG flaws that prevent anyone from enjoying them. And the rest of your post really says more about you than me. I don't think I ever made the Wii out to be the secondcoming. I'm just defending it from elitist morons who think that just because they don't like something means nobody else should like it.

You should've posted earlier. That way this topic could've ended much quicker.
