this!

honestly if i had 5 euro for every time an exec has opened his mouth and stuffed his foot right down it i'd be a billionaire by now, it's becoming more than just the odd comment too they just openly say whatever they like and show off their inner 5 year old

it's just petty bickering and stupidity at it's best and just proves these people have lost all grip on reality, and it's the consumers who are accused of living in a fantasy world? hah! irony at it's best.
and, frankly to the corporate heads they need to learn that the only way is DOWN so if they don't wise up they'll be the ones 'dealing with it'

i've always said, do what makes you happy and if anyone tells you your wrong, just agree to disagree
people's own petulance and stupidity will get the better of them for you.

Does any of this sound familiar? It should, because its the same thing that happened with the 3DS. And now the thing is selling like gangbusters. (Bonus points for the system also being underpowered compared to its competition -- the Vita isn't doing too well, sadly, even if its hardware runs circles around the 3DS)
However, the Vita is also a lot larger than the 3DS, which is a pretty fundamental disadvantage for a device that's meant to be portable. Rendering power is an advantage, but it's not as important as how portable it is.

The WiiU controller doesn't need to exist...
The DS and 3DS have additional touch screens and have been wildy successful. While that doesn't mean it's a great idea, it does show that it's not such a big issue. On DS/3DS games the action is generally confined to the top screen, with the touch screen being used as a supplementary interface. You rarely have to use it during the action, and when you do, such as in Street Fighter 4, the important buttons are generally large enough that you can hit them without looking.

The main difference the WiiU controller makes is that since it has the same interface as the DS/3DS, games developed for one can be ported to the other without having to rework the interface.

Even my Vita have more interesting games than WiiU, and that's telling something. Anyway without 3rd party support WiiU is as good as dead, and 3rd party will be developing for Nextbox and PS4 so yeah WiiU is as good as dead.

Wait, EA isn't going to be developing for the Wii U? I think this news calls for... A Mario Party!

You may have 3 internets for your joke good sir, it was whimsical and got a good chuckle out of me.

The Legend of Zelda is still my favorite console franchise. Pokemon is still my favorite handheld franchise. And nothing really seems to be changing that anytime soon.

Nintendo has a crazy talent for merchandising. It will continue to prosper. The fact of the matter is that very few WiiUs were actually available in the US on launch. Sales reflected this. They were sold out everywhere but there were few of them on the market to begin with. Supply, demand, all that.
Oh yeah there's a new pokemon generation out this year... Nintendo is likely going to turn a profit this year in that case.

Nintendo certainly fucked up with this generation's console but they have enough embarrassingly large piles of cash that they will survive even an abysmal failure to try again next generation, or even before that.

What the hell is going on between EA and Nintendo? Seriously, they're acting like children at the playground.

Honestly, I think there was supposed to be some kind of "exclusive deal" and EA didn't feel like they got enough out of it, so now they're dead-set on destroying Nintendo out of spite.

Wii U might not be selling as well as they'd hoped but I hardly think they're on the verge of extinction.

And for anyone who thinks this was "only an employee" and not the company I invite you to wonder why such an employee would risk losing their job/getting severely disciplined by pulling a stunt like this. I just saying, this kind of thing has happened before.

Trust me I've read articles where EA has taken potshots at Nintendo before. Also when a employee uses a social site like Twitter then they represent the company in a way.
Yeah, EA have taken pot shots at Nintendo before, but he was using his own personal Twitter account, so he isn't representing his company, he's representing himself. Also, remember that Microsoft dude last month (or the month before, memory is a little vague) who started taking pot shots at the consumer, he didn't represent Microsoft now did he. Just because they use a social network it doesn't mean they are informally representing their company. If he were to say, "I fucking hate women" you'd be stretching even further to prove that it's also the view of the company.

OT: Most of his points are quite valid, and Nintendo really haven't done themselves any favours in recent years. They've yet to make a real transitional jump in handheld, home console, and game wise for a while, the DS got a camera and 3D capabilities but is essentially the same as before, the Wii U's hardware is going to pale in comparison to Sony's and Microsoft's next consoles, and just because you slap the word new on the Mario games doesn't make it so. I don't hate Nintendo, but they seem to have dug themselves into a whole.

I hope Nintendo find a way to survive home console wise (They'll always dominate handhelds, all they gotta do is keep pumping out Pokémon games), I enjoyed most of the games on the Wii and they've come out fine before (see Gamecube) but Summerwill makes some damn fine points.

I don't particularly tend to sample to anything that spews from any of EA's orifices.

While I may not believe in Nintendo or their lackey Sega at the moment, EA is forever the lowest on my list of 'shit to ignore with vengeance'. And no EA games on a platform I don't have any intention of buying at this moment in time is like a double negative.

It creates a black hole of 'stuff I don't care about'. I need to try and not get sucked in.

'Sports Developer' Yes I can see how someone with experience in changing shirts and names yearly would be the guy to listen to!

At least Nintendo have more imagination than an old sock.

That it is given out by THE CONSUMERIST to a company which pisses off its consumers?

The golden poo isnt about who is doing the most damage to the world, or who is costing the world the most money and life ect, its about companies that treat their consumers like shit.
Most people don't know who or how evil Monstanto is. They patented life itself and the US supreme court backs them up on this. Accidentally bought some roundup ready seeds for you're farm and you're gonna get sued.

After what they did to their most HARDCORE and loyal fans on youtube, I find myself with a smug grin on my face at the state of the Wii U. Why defend them when they don't care anything at all about us? they stooped even lower then EA.

Y'know, despite not having or particularly wanting anything to do with the WiiU, I'm not convinced that it's doing as badly as some people seem to think. Obviously it's not exploding like the Wii did, but that was something of an exception. Is it doing any worse than the 360 or PS3 did at the same stage?
Probably not. People like to sensationalize anything and everything Nintendo doesn't do perfectly, presumably because of the false "lolforkids" stigma they have among some "hard core" gamers.

The PS4 and Nextbox (ESPECIALLY if the DRM rumors are true) will not do much better. Consoles are big investments, and without wide family appeal and a cheap price tag like the Wii had, they can be a tough sell.

True, my WiiU is gathering dust at this point, but it's got lots of games lined up for release, and they'll all be out and raking in the dough by the time either Sony or Microsoft get their act together with their respective libraries. I mean, let's be real here. Console launch titles are almost never all that glorious.

Does anyone that has the Wii U really holding out for EA games? I'm pretty sure if you bought a modern nintendo console, you're just waiting for the inevitable Mario, Zelda, Metriod, Animal Crossing, ect.

The Wii U doesn't have the library to support the hardware yet. When new zelda / smash is coming, I'll buy one and I wont regret it. 3rd party games work on Nintendo but that's not why you buy a Nintendo console.

That said, the 3ds is booming right now, I just ordered a Pikachu special edition (getting hard to find at a reasonable price now) and have bought 2 games for the 3ds in the last month. Animal crossing next month (oh god the time sink, it begins again) and Pokémon in October is going to be another wave of system sales.

I mean really, nintendo just wins the handheld market no questions every time. The PS vita has sold about 3 million units at most, the 3ds? Over 30 million.

An EA sports dev not understanding the way Nintendo works? What a surprise.

While the vita is slightly longer end to end than a closed 3dsXL. It's actually thinner and shorter vertically as well as significantly lighter (even the 3g model).

Dammit. I misread the title, thought they were gonna make The Walking Dead Season 2 for Wii-U. It's just EA being EA, ignore it.

You mean the people making money on Nintendo LPs. That doesn't make you a hardcore OR loyal fan.

In fact, they're not going after people who aren't making money off of it. People who do it basically for love or entertainment.

Seems like a bad reason to be smug or complain Nintendo doesn't care about "us."
