I read about this elsewhere and I think it's kind of hilarious actually: This is a guy from EA Sports after all. If Nintendo is 'walking dead' than EA Sports is a necrophiliac with a poor memory after all (Madden...fifa...madden...fifa...Tiger Woods...?) I get it; Nintendo and EA couldn't work out an Origin deal but it's no reason for EA to act like a bunch of spoiled dicks. I wonder if this guy is going to go the same way as...was his name Orhn?

To be honest, I thought the Wii U would be utter crap. Which is why when my fiance wanted it for his birthday, I was incredulous to say the least.

I have been proven wrong so far.

Though the amount of games is rather light for the Wii U, I have enjoyed playing on it. (For the record, he also received ZombiU, Rabbids Land, The New Super Mario Bro. Wii U, Injustice, and I was given Your Shape by my fiance because I was curious about trying it.)

To my suprise, Injustice and ZombiU are rather fun on the Wii U, and of course, nitendo lives for party games on a Wii console. The Your Shape is one of the most accurate games I have seen for movement for the sensor bar yet.

Not to mention I keep finding random crap on it all the time that entertains my curiosity, like Google Street U.(what can I say, I am a bit random)

Overall, I went from rolling my eyes to being competitive about using it more than him. Will it ever be a PS3/4? No. That's not how it was built. But it does satisfy areas that I have found lacking with my PC and my PS3, the 3ds, vita, and the old Wii.

This guy Seems a bit classless, but unfortunately, being crass seems to be becoming the norm.

Fun fact; Harvest Moon is only published by Nintendo in Australia. In North America (where your profile says you're from), Harvest Moon is published by Natsume.

A Bit More OT: Obligatory "Kotaku Article LOL" comment out of the way, I'm not entirely sure I trust hardware judgements from someone who has mainly worked on repackaging one game concept several dozen times. Of course, there's also lots of hints and rumors that Nintendo has been blocking EA from doing specific business practices, so this could just be an extension of EA's uncooperative nature from sour relations.

Well done, that man. Because all EA needed right now was a worse public opinion. It also wasn't vey professional. You can say 'He wasn't speaking for the company' and all that shit all you want, but with recent problems caused by twitter in gaming/console companies recently, they should know how it wil be recieved. They are just acting like the spoilt little shit who is a complete dick then complains and bitches that nobody likes them. SHUT THE FUCK UP AND FUCK THE FUCK OFF NOW EA, NOBODY LIKES OR CARES ABOUT YOU!!!FUCK!

Well perhaps that last statement had more profanity than was really necassary, but EA is doing something which I though impossible. Making me hate them more.

The Legend of Zelda is still my favorite console franchise. Pokemon is still my favorite handheld franchise. And nothing really seems to be changing that anytime soon.

Nintendo has a crazy talent for merchandising. It will continue to prosper. The fact of the matter is that very few WiiUs were actually available in the US on launch. Sales reflected this. They were sold out everywhere but there were few of them on the market to begin with. Supply, demand, all that.
Oh yeah there's a new pokemon generation out this year... Nintendo is likely going to turn a profit this year in that case.
The problem with Nintendo is that they don't really seem to care about the American market at all. All the awesome Nintendo official merchandise never gets released here. Last December, an amazing Skyward Sword Link action figure was released for about $30 US in Japan and other places, but not in America. If I wanted it now, it'll cost me about $100 over that initial price point BEFORE shipping. It's crazy.
Yeah that does kinda such but it's hardly limited to just Nintendo, it's hard to get good figurines outside of Japan in general. I have to mention that as a European I have little sympath for when the american market doesn't get something, it's mostly because the PS2-GCN-XBOX generation really was painful for Europe, with many games not releasing here at all (Kingdom Hearts RE:CoM for example) and others being oput here near a year after the US version (FF 12 and such). (Seriously, the operation rainfall thing was annoying as hell to many of us here, the outrage over not getting Xenoblade (an FF12 rip-off but less well-executed) while we were told to shut the fuck up whining about FF titles being here a year late...)

But I'll admit it does suck, One Piece figures have to be bought from Play-asia or we just don't get, and event hen they cost a fortune for shipping.

I would like to see Nintendo sue EA for some kind of disparagement... mostly because I think we can all stop and rationally think that we all like Nintendo more than EA, and that while Nintendo reuses it's properties more it's at least creative with those properties and goes mad on the gameplay front of things.

I personally would donate a goo £100 to Nintendo suing EA. Or EA givin Crytek a bid pile of money to publish their stuff, since Crytek have expressed interest in the Wii U and have said that they had CRysis 3 working on a Wii U.e

No one has "enough money that it doesn't matter". Nintendo has offices around the world, thousands of staff, large infrastructure, and all of that costs money. Its called "operating expenses". Also, Nintendo is a publicly traded company and its leaders have a fiduciary duty to make money for its investors. If the WiiU is a failure Nintendo will either have to restructure, laying off employees, cancel games in production, and possibly sell property just like THQ towards the end, or completely kill its console division and become a software company like SEGA did. They certainly don't have "enough money that it doesn't matter".
Luckily their mobile business is very good, but of course that is under threat from smart phones and tablets. If the WiiU fails they could find themselves embattled from all sides. If the WiiU fails they will likely end up as a publisher only.
This is just getting ridiculous. I'm sorry, but your economics here are completely off-base.

Laying off employees, cancelling games and selling property in the manner you're talking about only happens as a last resort. Companies only do things like that for financial reasons when they don't have the capital to keep those resources going.

Nintendo has currently got $13 billion sitting in the bank. That's $13 billion worth of capital. That means that if the Wii U struggles or fails to find an audience, they don't need to fire people or sell property, because they have the capital to essentially pay off the loss. When the 3DS struggled to sell at launch and was given a price-cut, Nintendo did not cut any jobs in order to finance that. They didn't cancel any games. They did the opposite in fact. They used some of their stored up capital from the DS and the Wii to fund the development of more games, to increase marketing and to offset the loss that the 3DS was being sold at. It worked, as the 3DS is now selling incredibly well, and at a profit. They spent some of their capital in order to bring in more capital. The only cut that happened was the 50% cut that Iwata inflicted on his own salary as a way to apologise for not doing enough. That's it. No job cuts. No real estate sales. No development studios were axed.

With $13 billion in the bank, they can afford to do exactly the same for the Wii U. They have no reason to axe jobs or development on the Wii U when they already have the cash to pay those salaries and for those games in the bank. They have no need to sell real estate when they're building a new Kyoto HQ.

Lastly, they have no reason to bow out of the hardware race when it makes them more money than being a software producer ever could be. They don't just profit from hardware sales and first-party games, they get royalties on all games sold on their systems. If they went third party, they would have to pay royalties to other hardware owners.

There isn't a third party publisher out there worth what Nintendo is currently worth. EA are worth $2.5 billion in total, assets included. Nintendo have got $13 billion sitting in the bank alone. If you add up all their assets, the company is worth even more. Not even Activision is worth that much.

Nintendo will keep making hardware, because that's where the big money is. Going software only would result in a huge loss of income for them. THQ went bankrupt because of a lack of high selling games, piss-poor management and the absolute financial disaster that was the UDraw device, a device they simply couldn't afford to bankroll if it didn't sell. The Wii U could flop entirely, and Nintendo would still have more than enough money to stay in the console race.

I don't get it. Does he just sit around waiting for Nintendo threads? I wish I had that kind of dedication to some things.
Every time a Nintendo thread gets posted, a small army of Goombas find out and report it back to me.

Go, my pretties. Bring me more Nintendo threads to be defended.

Seriously, who the fuck centers their console around what should be a special gimmicky peripheral for a hot title, twice?
If the Kinect 2 rumours are true, Microsoft.
Jeffers my good man, I commend you in your defence of Nintendo and grant you membership of the Wool Hat Pirates as recognition of your services to defending a company that focuses it's creativity on the most valuable asset of videogames: gameplay.

If you have a steam profile, please, seek me out, that I may make your membership official.

One Piece fan? Kindred spirits! Love the One Piece manga. (Just wish they'd get a damn new crew member already. Been forever since Brook was added.)

Good action figures are released for non-Japan related companies. Four Horseman Studios sculpts the most amazing DC action figures for Mattel. The Marvel Legends series is also pretty damn impressive.
Oh my god! I'ms o disappointed I havent encountered you in the One Piece fangroup on here!!

I'm an enormous One Piece nerd, I often have long, elaborate discussions with TizzyTheTormentor about One Piece, with many a derailed thread a result.

Whilst I'd like to see a new rw member I'm sick of the insane speculation aruond every new female character as a potential strawhat. Honestly all the specialist roles have been filled. I'll spoiler this in case you aren't up to date with the manga, and instead watch the anime:
I really don't want that random girl to become a strawhat, in reality of the people currently present in this arc the most likely new strawhat, if there is one, is Bellamy, as he is very unexpected and Luffy seems to have forgiven him, he's an interesting character with unique powers and a lot of potential for expansion, as opposed to the random female who people want to join because DERP ONE PIECE NEEDS TEH ROMANCE LUFFY X NAMI FOUR EVA ¬_¬

You do realize of the last 9 Harvest Moon games release, only 1 wasn't for a Nintendo console.

That guy isn't going to have his job for much longer. What is with people in this industry causing huge PR disasters on Twitter? Do they not realize the entire world can see what they're posting?

It is funny how EA was singing Nindendo's praises until they were told they couldn't put Origin on the WiiU. Now they seemingly have an axe to grind and are trying to send a message by cancelling already completed games and refusing to make their engines run on the console.

Does any of this sound familiar? It should, because its the same thing that happened with the 3DS. And now the thing is selling like gangbusters. (Bonus points for the system also being underpowered compared to its competition -- the Vita isn't doing too well, sadly, even if its hardware runs circles around the 3DS)
However, the Vita is also a lot larger than the 3DS, which is a pretty fundamental disadvantage for a device that's meant to be portable. Rendering power is an advantage, but it's not as important as how portable it is.
Actually, the Vita is not much larger than the 3DS XL -- which has been selling quite well, last I heard. The analog sticks DO get in the way of portability, though, which is a damn shame. I like the analog sticks more than the circle pads, but the latter is significantly more convenient for a portable.
