Anybody who picks a video game character doesnt get what makes a good character.
Only a Sith deals in absolutes.

Anyway, how can you say that? Most probably you've just played games with horrible characters in them, but sure, go ahead and make a generalization that isn't just about all video games ever made, but also about the people who've played video games that actually had proper writing and characters.

Edit: Yes, I am aware that "Only a Sith deals in absolutes." is one of the most stupid lines ever uttered in a movie. And by Obi-Wan Kenobi no less *shudders*.

I'm going to go with Roland Deschain. Everything about him just appeared cool to me, except maybe the whole ageing thing and the ending of the final book.
This right here! It's a toss up between him and Oy. That billy-bumbler is a true badass. And the end of the final book was thoroughly depressing.

A part of me is screaming Atticus Finch from 'To Kill a Mockingbird'.
That said, he is somewhat of a Mary Sue (can't remember the male equivilant).
Excuse me, but...
In the most important scene in the book he fails completely with what he's trying to do, and poor Tom Robinson gets sentenced to prison. So to me he's no Gary Stu.

Ah, finally! I was hoping that somebody would pick him. I would have included him in the original post except I didn't want to influence your choices.

Hmmm... I can't choose one, so I've give some of my favorites.

Sherlock Holmes
Dr. Gregory House
Ford Prefect
Malcolm Reynolds
Rorschach
Dexter (from the show/book series Dexter, not Dexter's Lab)

The first two are because they're drugged-up geniuses who solve things that nobody else can. Ford Prefect is an awesome, laid-back alien who literally travels the universe as his job. Malcolm Reynolds is... well... Malcolm Reynolds. Rorschach is insane and hates pretty much everyone (like me :p) but still manages to do what he thinks is 'right.' Dexter is an emotionless killer who kills other killers, which makes him a BA.

God.

the universes greatest troll since several billion BC.
I'd go with Satan over God... Satan is the scapegoat for all God's evilness, and even the bible said that Satan couldn't do anything without the consent from God. I feel sorry for the guy...

Sherlock Holmes.

"My mind rebels at stagnation. Give me problems, give me work, give me the most abstruse cryptogram or the most intricate analysis, and I am in my own proper atmosphere. I can dispense then with artificial stimulants. But I abhor the dull routine of existence. I crave for mental exaltation. That is why I have chosen my own particular profession?or rather created it, for I am the only one in the world."

How can you not be brilliant when you say that?

Also, Emilia from Shakespeare's Othello. She's one of the few Shakespearean women who happens to be a feminist.

Revan without question.
And if I had to pick a character from a book, that would be Dorian Gray.
