My pick is... Ender, from Ender's Game.
Damn straight, anyone who has not picked up and read Enders Game is in store for a treat. Get it soon!

My 2nd pick would be Arthur Dent from Douglas Adams "Hitchhikers" series.
Ender emo's to much for me
There are several things wrong here.
First: The grammar is a bit off.
Secondly: It's not emo if it's got a good motivation.

God.

the universes greatest troll since several billion BC.
I'd go with Satan over God... Satan is the scapegoat for all God's evilness, and even the bible said that Satan couldn't do anything without the consent from God. I feel sorry for the guy...
Wow, talk about completely misunderstanding what's written there.
As to that comment, that is just what I read or heard from someone, I don't really remember or care much. Just like with everything else that people say is said in the bible, I agree with George Bernard Shaw: ?No man ever believes that the Bible means what it says: He is always convinced that it says what he means?. But anyway, not a flame war/religious discussion or anything...

Barry Wheeler. Just kidding! He is damn funny though, what other comic relief character would suggest getting drunk in a demonic siege?

Seriously though, the Winchester Brothers from "supernatural". Okay, I may be cheating a little by choosing two, but part of the reason I think they are the best fictional characters ever is that they are a genuine double act, the show simply doesn't work without both of them. You don't realise it at first, but the show relys more on the Brother's relationship than it does on any of the ghosts and ghouls they fight, with great moments of comedy and emotional drama centring around them. Without them, I don't think the show would've went longer than one or two seasons, as they would've long ago ran out of interesting monster ideas, but with them, they can afford to repeat a little now and again.

The Doctor.

As a character concept he's interesting, allowing for all sorts of interpretations of the character and letting the series runfor as long as it has, and hopefully will do. As an actual character, I really like the joy and inventive-ness that most incarnations seem to have, juxtaposed somewhat by the darker, more serious moments.

Sato from welcome to the N.H.K. he's such an asshole but he's impossible to hate because he's so humanly flawed and easy to relate to...

Lord Soth

Not only was he one of the greatest villains in all of D&D, but he has a fantastic backstory, and a desire to redeem his past sins. He's also incredibly badass, and knows how to scare the crap out of his opponents.

Hard to pick one. I'll list a few: Rorschach from Watchmen, Yorick from Y: The Last Man, Walter Bishop from Fringe, and Hellboy. All excellently written with very interesting personalities.

Now, for my non-serious answer:
SAXTON HAAAAAAAAAALE!

Anybody who picks a video game character doesnt get what makes a good character.

I pick Sherlock Holmes for his brilliant intelligence.
Just because a character is in a video game doesn't necessarily mean that he is any less developed or less "good" than any other, at least not inherantly. And this is most baddass, not judging the depth of a character.

Micheal Westen from burn notice for absurd heists, plans, and the one time he pretended to be the devil to screw with some guy's head.

Also; Luffy from one piece. It may be a bit silly to count him in, but it takes some balls to become a pirate when you can't swim and your only real ability is that you are made of rubber.

Garrus Vakarian.

See, the fact that he's a Turian alone disqualifies everyone else.
One problem. Malcolm Reynolds is too awesome to be disqualified. We're at a stalemate here.
Problem solved, Wrex. Alien god of war and too awesome to be disqualified. Plus, Garrus always whined a bit too much for me.

I personally really like Dr. House and Jack Sparrow. They're both suave, selfish, and manupulative, and are very good at what they do while at the same time being extremely flawed. If a character is noble and chivalrous, it almost seems fake to some degree, because in the end everyone is only out for themselves. Plus if a character is a complete douchebag, usually I relate to them quite well.

Coop from Megasxlr

He's well defined on personality
Funny as hell
Both the good guy and the comedic guy
Drives the most badass robot ever made
Sweet looking beard
He's 22 and still playing games, working on cars, and eating junk food.

EDIT: Lemme get a pic of him

If not, I also pick Master Chief or Garrus Vakarian
Seconded.

Coop is the coolest dude to ever drive a hot-rod robot (also the best sounding robot ever!).

If only there was more Megas XLR :'(

Agreed. Just look at Solid Snake.
