link/twilight princess games really? how do you not know the game series is always called ZELDA... just wow really i mean most people who dont know much about games call Link himself zelda... anyway i agree whole heartedly about Halo that game got boring quickly. Also with gta 4, how it got such great reviews i'll never know especially all the stuff about niko being this really interesting character, imo he was just an ugly hypocrite: wah wah wah ive killed people in my past, i am very sad about this fact, so how many people do you want me to slaughter? HYPOCRISY YOUR NAME IS BELIC

gta 4 noway lived up to the series, especially vice city, that game was epicly awesome

Don't pay too much thought to them... (And it's been a good long while since I looked at a "ZELDA" game.)

Plus the magnitude of media attention the release date got made me think it was the second coming of Christ.
Yeah, they really did make that have a huge media hype over that game... I remember watching the whole Halo 3 release, everyone excited, screaming, going "WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOH! HALO!!!!" and when they brought out the 'Mongooses', it was still kind of cool, but I couldn't help but not laugh either way.
Now when GTA IV came out, not much of that whole "OMFG GTA IV! WOOOOH!"-ness. But then again, they weren't twelve.
Staying on topic, I would have to say Halo 3, even though I've wasted a rather nice chunk of my life on that game alone.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say Mario Galaxy. I remember reading "Awesome!", "BEST game ever" and other words of the sorts. But when I finished the game I thought - well that sucked. It took effort to pick up the Wiimote and continue.

That's my: worst 'best game ever'.

Halo. Mediocre, typical FPS.
I've never heard anyone say that Halo is the best game ever.
This was a meme on the Penny-Arcade forums years ago:

i just bought halo 2. best game ever!!!! ive been addicted to as much as i was the first.

thing is after playing it so long, i wanted to do more then play.

i love the game. i wanted to sex it. so i tried sticking my dingdong in there. i didn?t fit. so i buttered it up and got it working. i got too worked up and the CD cracked, and pinched me. but it felt so good.

Is Ocarina of Time really that good? Maybe it's because I never made it past the Deku Tree, but what's so great? It's an N64 game with a shitload of puzzles and boring, repetitive lock-on based combat. I need to try some of the top-down ones for Game Boy. Those look fun.

Oblivion. It wasn't the wonderful WRPG of awesomeness everyone says it is.

Strangely enough, despite it being essentially the same game, I loved Fallout 3 (other than the crashing and making me manually reset my computer thing, of course).

Threads like these always become a nest of Halo Hate don't they? Well I said it before by this point no one is calling Halo 'a masterpiece' on this forum so it's hard to still call it 'overhyped' because by this point the mainstream loathe it so continuing to insult Halo at this rate is like poking at a fly when you've already torn it's wings off (Sin City referance).
But I don't want to start a flame war so here goes my example and that one I have to say is Goldeneye for the N64. Yeah I said it, I found that game a fun little novelty because at the time I was into James Bond but looking back at it now I have to say it's not looking so favourable because as it is on it's own merits it's certainly a good game but when people start comparing it to modern FPS'S and say 'it's so much better' suddenly the faults of Goldeneye become MUCH MORE OBVIOUS.

I thought Bioshock was a fantastically mediocre game. The only thing it did well was atmosphere.

GTA 3 and 4 were also terrible if you ask me. Steal car, kill hookers, do mission, rinse repeat 400 times.

I thought Halo 3 was good, but definitely not as good as it's predecessor, Halo 2. I also immediately stopped playing it the moment I bought CoD4.

My first impulse is to say that no console FPS is deserving of that rarefied strata of gaming godliness. Halo was boring, and Call of Duty 4 offered very little that was new in comparison to its illustrious predecessor, Call of Duty 1.

I'd be willing to defend Half-Life 1's claim to the crown in 1999 as being a genuinely interesting variation on the theme established by Quake, but ultimately I find that in the greater scheme games released since then, it is the prototype for every loathsome, mega-popular FPS that followed it.

In this decade, I would count bonafide classics as follows:

Deus Ex
Kotor 1

The hype for the PS3's "HAZE" was incredible. It was promised to be the greatest feat of any platform, it was promised by the lead singer of "KORN" to be the greatest game of all time, and was said to be perfect by the Playstation's magazine. All that hype for a game that wasn't even close to what it promised.

Gonna have to agree on that one. The thing that bugged me the most is that I personally never felt the force of the guns ya know. Just running around with a rainbow dispenser.
