Brill suggesstions. Nice to see some underground suggestions come out. Soulja Boy is closing the gap, but Katy Perry still upfront.

Nickelback should be fired into the fucking sun. And here's the part that just gets my goat- the class song, my senior year, was Nickelback's "Photograph." What was it chosen over? Styx. MF-ing STYX. I almost throttled someone in rage.
I feel for you man.

Chavs have developed a habit of writing their own... I can't do it... It doesn't deserve the name...

Anyway, not sure if the demi-person responsible for that travesty counts as an "artist" but that's my nomination.
HAHAHA that is without a doubt the single best thing I have ever witnessed, the only thing I can make out is something about someones dad sleeping in a box. genius.

I Kissed A Girl - Katey (spelling?) Perry. Dear god I'm in France and they still play it. I thought the whole point of the song was the lesbian undertone. I mean I could stand it the first time and oh there its passed for the thirty-sixth (yes I've counted).

Anything by Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana makes my soul die a little bit while I search for the nearest clock tower to climb.

I'm not a big fan of popular music. Also most of the French stuff is utter drivel. The rhythm is messed up and with the accent its just plain bizarre.

EDIT: I hate Soulja Boy...Its bloody spelled SOLDIER and comparing yourself to them is a disrespect. On a completely unrelated note I quite like "All Summer Long" despite my dislike of most of Kid Rocks music.

This year has been pretty good.

The Ting Tings are great, for such a non standard band (only vocals and drums) to get this big when the labels are 'playing it safe' is great. 'Thats not my name' is ever so catchy!!

The living end are also really good. They are big enough to play the NRL grand final but cool enough to play a free gig.

To the people who say "Everything that is not *this genre* is crap!" I really really pity you. So closed minded..

Insert current top 100, for the last 60 years.
You do realize that you're saying The Beatles, Queen and Led Zeppelin (and many others) are bad right???
And your point is? It's a general statement that shits itself for a few excellent bands. OUT OF ABOUT 10K. I personally like the odds of having a statement fuck up at about 0.1 %.

EDIT : I mean these for actually talented, decent musicians like black sabbath, not queen or the beatles, which were shitty pop bands.

I hate it when people say this. Just because mainstream music is crap doesn't mean you can tar all recent music with the same brush. Try listening to different genres and stuff outside of your normal comfort zone. If not then at least try listening to a mix of new bands rather than judging modern music by the tripe they play on the radio.
show me a community which will give me the latest on instrumental avant garde music and i'll show you a happy man.
try going out to music venues more? most of the time it will be shit, but find the right night and the right venue and you will be in for a winner.
Sire, untill you live in Middlesbrough, kindly remove assumptions of high quality reality that may be avalible to me. Because it doesn't exist.

Also, if every time I go somewhere, pay for it , and hate it, on the extremely unlikely chance I may be entertained for a couple of minutes, does not seem like good odds. in fact, it seems like 0.1% chance of success. which is an inversion of the previous statement I made for mr watsit.

Sadly for me the Tings Tings lost any chance they had for my music library (a prestigeous place, I know) when their first hit ( I ain't freakin' I ain't fakin' this) used the Super generic 'indie' chord intro/main riff.

Offenders in recent memory

The Tings Tings - Shut up and Let me go [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8r23cm7bL9E]
Fraz Ferdinand - Take me Out [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x_9GR9kdZ3o] (the riff comes in about a minute in)

Annnd.. some other song I heard on the radio at work recently but I can't quite recall the title. I'm not saying these bands are terrible, just that the pumping high string chord riff is very, very overused.

As for my contribution, He's the reason for the teeearr dropss on my guitar.

Rockstar by Nickelback is my first. Chad fucking what's his name wants to elarn to put some god damn pitch to his stupid grunting voice.

Next is Kid Rock, All Summer Long. You didn't release Sweet Home Alabama, we know it, you know it, we're all sorry you were beaten to it. Just don't try and reconcile that fact by bringing it out with different lyrics. And you even namedropped the song within the rip off! You make me sick.

Next is that song 'Are we humans or are we dancers'. We're humans. There.

End rant.

Anything by the fucking Ting Tings.
Most certainly. Anything by the psudo-hip hop artists (Rihanna and company) can go on there as well.

If you're looking for the best songs, I'd recommend Spaceman and A Dustland Fairytale from the new Killers album, and anything on Kamelot's reissue of Ghost Opera.

This year has been rather bad. Katy Perry and the Ting Tings are in the worst offenders list.
But the top in my list of songs to avoid is the Jack White/Alicia Keys theme for the Quantum of Solace. Seriously, did you guys forget how to write songs?

So just because a band releases popular music, they're shit? I'd suggest you go and listen to some of Queen's and The Beatles' albums before you make that statement.
(and @ KSI Hellboy, Led Zeppelin never released a single).

Being the hyper critic of music that I am, and thinking that music died in 1995, my opinion is that everything sucks after 1995, except potientally the bands on this french site my sister found

http://www.blogotheque.net/

and by a longshot Chinese Democracy.

i'm gonna say all of them. music these days sucks. rap is redundant, rock has turned into coffee house pop, does no one know how to come up with a good riff anymore come on!?!
