Any music shown on MTV in the mornings.

That's not music, it's a repetitive 3-4 beats and maybe 4-5 lines of lyrics repeated over and over and over....

I would liek to nominate "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus, as the song sucks and she can't sing for shit, which just makes it that much worse.

I don't really believe you can claim you have a 'good' taste in music. Its all opinion based.

2009 was a pretty unremarkable year in music. I for one am now bored of having Michael Jackson's death (yep, he IS still dead) forced into my every available orifice.

Madness, Spandau Ballet, Blur and Robbie Williams have re-appeared. But with nothing new, shiny or notable enough to last a few months of hype.

The X-factor and other 'talent' outlets have produced a million more monotonous pop acts.

Anything that I considered good from the start of the year (me having a complex musical opinion) has been ruined by almost systematic overplaying on the radio.

So yeah, this year wasn't a great one for music.

Festivals (at least over here) were pretty swell though...

Any song that has quite a large constituency of itself stolen word-for-word from a number one from the 70s, 80s or 90s.

This is alittle pertinent(sp?) but kind of off topic.
I think that the reason that hip-hop stations are so rediculous these days
is because "rappers" are trying to appeal to a more club-scene which is only good in context.
It does not translate well to a car drive home or a ride to the store or church or what ever it may be. That and really ANYTHING on mainstream radio that is overplayed seems to have the same club-scene theme. I think that came back when Techno made a comeback. What's hilarious is that stuff like Aesop Rock (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZEBGCOCxLgA) or El-p (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCSXMMF430w) seems to be in absentia when I find it more mentally relaxing and creative than anything I've recently heard on the radio. It's kind of sad really.

On-Topic: Any Overplayed crap on the radio.

Pretty much any pop, rap, or mainstream rock song that came out this year is terrible. How am I supposed to pick?

Funny you should mention her, she has an amazing voice that she doesn't use in her music. Look up her MTV Unplugged session. Even though the music sucks, her voice is very good.

Wow, I'm really glad I stopped listening to MTV and radio 10 years ago. I don't really know any of these songs.

On a related but opposite note, my favorite album of the year has got to be Crack the Skye by Mastodon.

Can we just send 2009 to Room 101 and be done with it. The crap has already got more airtime than it should've without us dredging it back up.

Oh god, just about everyone I know likes them.
You can't really hear anything in their songs, just some guy seemingly attacking his own throat.

But, I'd have to say that this is my worst song of 2009.

Yeah it's bad, but it caused a kickass parody by CollegeHumor:

As for my choice of worst song, er.... probably I Gotta Feeling - Black Eyed Peas

I'd like to contribute to this thread, but since I tend avoid mainstream music I don't really have anything to post... Damn it.

Don't make this more complicated than need be. The obvious answer is "anything played on anything touted as popular radio."
you can't dislike something merely because its popular. By that logic the Beatles are terrible (even if you don't like them they're still a good band if that makes sense; in terms of their contribution to the music industry)

Although you could just mean current radio; at which point still in correct. Sure radio has to appeal to the masses so you get some generic crap but every so often a genuinely new and interesting band will get a break. Also you forget Radio DJs (looking at you radio 1) have to seen as new and edgy and a little bit out there, they can't appear too popular so will bring the attention of the masses to some random little band that's half way decent to appear cool.

La Roux - In For The Kill This woman sounds like a cat in a bag being drowned in the River Thames whilst a mega phone is taped to it's gob.
i will kill you for that...
2009 has had nothing but great music i heard someone say bonkers thats a tune!
Someone else who appreciates these kind of songs. Do you agree with me that lyric wise they may not be amazing but when they're put on as dance music it really doesn't matter.

Now, I might be a little on the oblivious side (to me, just about any band from 2000 on has blown ass), so correct me if I'm wrong on the year of release.

Whoever made the song "I'm On A Boat" needs to die. How in the unholy name of Satan did this become a hit? Mostly I think it's because the rap fanbase is a bunch of idiots as a whole, but partially, it's the song. Yes, we know you're on a goddamn boat. Hopefully, that boat is travelling down the river Styx right now.

And no, there is no Styx (the band) joke in there. Essentially, that meant "I hope you're going to hell."

Freakin' Miley Cyrus's "Party in the USA" and "The Climb". It's like. Stop it.

I listen to popular radio for reasons i don't care to explore; mostly it's ok, but I freakin' HATE a few of these songs that keep cropping up.

I can't remember who sings it, but one goes something like "I'm gonna make you feel like a dime/even if you ain't one/you ain't one". I mean, what? Dime? As in diamond? QUE??

I've been noticing an outbreak of lazy and repetitive lyrics, especially in hip-hop crap.

I'm in with all the people that have ignored the mainstream "music' sources over the last decade. When MTV/Muchmusic stopped playing videos, I stopped watching, and I generally ignore the various local radio stations, since they just play the crap that'll get the most money from the record companies.

That said, I think there's a good chance that Tokio Hotel's attempted jump across the Atlantic deserves a mention in the category, but pretty much EVERYTHING mainstream needs to get boot-fucked into a fetal ball, then lit on fire. There's admittedly some exceptions, so let's go on a case by case basis.

WOAH WOAH WOAH. Lonely Island is PARODYING the rap subculture, DO NOT play that song straight. If you saw the music video the fact that it's satire becomes clearer. Watch it, it's hilarious and certainly NOT serious. :D

And after searching for that on youtube I now feel too dirty to live.
