I probably didn't play Bioshock until at least a year or so after it had been out, I'd guess, so "Would you kindly?" Didn't make any sense to me.

If I continue seeing it, I'll probably look it up.

I never played a single Mass Effect game, so the "assuming control" and the "best station in the Citadel meme" went over my head. After the Mass Effect 3 debacle, I'm not sure I'd even touch a finger on that game.

Also, ASSUMING CONTROL.
I just finished ME3 (got it last week), it's not nearly as bad as I was expecting. The series does suffer from a serious case of getting simpler (not easier, just removing functionality) with each game though.

OT: I tend to be aware of most gaming memes, though I only very rarely play the games myself. My roommate however manages to stay blissfully unaware of nearly all gaming memes (despite being an avid gamer as well)
Original space magic with unexplained logic ending that seemed to think that telling you how your actions affected the world after the end was unimportant ending or not nearly as terrible DLC Extended Cut space magic with explained logic that actually tells you what happened to the galaxy after you beat the game ending? To say that may have affected your experience would be an undersatement, unless you're extremely forgiving, that is.

Anything Dragon Age, Mass Effect, KOTOR, and most console AAA games in general (Due to me not owning a newer age console for reasons of lack of interest).
It's funny because every game in those listed franchises are available for PC (in the case of Dragon Age developed for the PC) which makes not having played them because you don't own a console a non-excuse.

OT:
"The cake is a lie" and anything Portal related in general. Never played the games and don't want to, no interest in puzzle-platformers.
Sorry, those were poor examples. I don't tend to play many AAA games for other reasons too, I just forgot that the ones I listed were PC related. My bad! I'm generally just not interested in AAA gaming itself these days unless the game itself draws me in, not just "It's another CoD, MUST BUY!!!" thing. But, I don't own a 360 or PS3 (anymore) either way, so I wouldn't be able to experience many console AAA games, even if I wanted to.

Fair enough. Although the games you listed are really quite good, you're doing yourself a disservice by not playing them, especially since the earlier games are all available for quite cheap now, and KotOR I&II would be absolutely trivial to run on a moderately aged computer, on a gaming rig they'd likely barely even register on the CPU.

I didn't realize "Shazbot" came from Tribes: Ascend until I played it.

Dragon Age, maybe I am missing out, I love RPG's, but I tend to enjoy JRPG's or just Japan made RPG games better (What I mean by Japan made RPG's in this context are not all anime style and full of angsty teenagers type of RPG, but more of something like Monster Hunter. But don't get me wrong, I love normal JRPG's themselves~) Mass Effect, eeeehhhh, the shooter genre is a big time hit and miss for me, and nothing in Mass Effect has really drawn me yet. And as far as Star Wars games, same thing, hit or miss. Maybe I'll try it someday, knowing now that it's decently cheap :3 Now, if I could just lower my backlog a little, maybe I'll get to it... XD

For years I was convinced that 'memes' was pronounced 'meh-mehs'. This lead to some heated arguments among friends.

Star Fox. I don't know which one but a character in it keeps telling you to do a barrel roll. With Navi like persistance.
I definitely wouldn't say Navi like persistence. I can say with confidence that there are only around 5 times that Peppy says the line in Star Fox 64.

With the way the paths between levels branch, I believe at most you will hear the line twice with each play-through of the game. Once in a tutorial way to tell you that if you are being fired at from all directions and can't avoid it, doing a barrel will allow your ship to deflect all the laser shots, then the second time is usually farther in the game when players could possibly forget that they could do it, so he says it one more time. Of course, once you beat the game once, you know each scripted instance when the maneuver is truly necessary.

That is nothing compared to the amount of times you have to hear "Hey! Listen!" from Navi.

As I said I bought it last week (PC version), so indeed I played the extended DLC version. I'm not saying the original didn't suck (I honestly don't know), I'm just telling people not to keep away from the entire series because the original last 10 minutes, of a nearly 40 hours series, were bad. Especially since the biggest problems were fixed (apparently).

Off course with all the negative attention it got it pretty much has to be better then expected for any new player, nothing is ever as good or bad as the hype...

All of the games we're talking about are RPG's. Dragon Age's gameplay is even very similar to KotOR's gameplay, the original Mass Effect is more RPG then it is shooter, as not having points invested into a particular firearm type will make a gun of that type worthless in a character's hand, and not having points invested into skills will render you incapable of unlocking certain doors and loot chests, robbing you of potentially kick-ass gear for trying to play it as a pure shooter.

I assume you mean action RPG's? In which you have direct control over your character like you would in an action adventure such as The Legend of Zelda, but still have a stat system? It sounds like that's what you're trying to say.

Also, if you like action RPG's, I'd recommend Dark Souls, which is available on the PC. It's an excellent and truely challenging game if you've been feeling like games have been getting too easy nowadays. I'd also recommend Demon's Souls, but you don't own a PS3, so whatev's.

For a new player that hasn't invested in any other Mass Effect game, maybe. For those like myself that have been loyal fans from the start the original ending was a swift kick to the 'nads, followed by twelve more kicks to the 'nads after you'd fallen on the ground in shock, horror, and pain. It damn near did retroactively ruin the entire franchise in one fell swoop, literally nullifying every single achievement you had aquired across all three games and throwing both the driving message behind the entire story as well as Shepard's established character (you seriously did not get an option to argue with the Star Child in the original ending, and Shepard just nodded along with it offering nothing in the way of a counter-arguement) the extended cut was a massive improvement, but the original really was as terrible as everyone says it was.

There's a reason Bioware went out of their way to produce the Extended Cut and give it out for free in a desperate attempt to not have their PR plummet like it had taken a running leap over the edge of the Grande Canyon, after all.

Action RPG's might be the better term, yes. Although I love The Legend of Zelda, and Majora's Mask was my fave one of the series. I dunno, it's hard for me to explain, and my likes or dislikes can be odd at times considering I might not like a genre, save for a game or two. I mean, The 3rd Birthday is an Action RPG and it's probably my fave game for the PSP, or at least my second fave. It's weird, I know XD Also, I tried Dark Souls when I had a PS3. I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaated it, returned it within a few days. I just couldn't do the difficulty, I wasn't have any fun. And when I play a game, it's to have fun. I can do challenging, I enjoy me some Etrian Odyssey 4 for its challenge, but it's fun at the same time. Dark Souls was just.... brutal, haha XD Maybe one day I will try the games you recommended, thanks for the tips~

Part of me was hoping this to be a discussion about how PC's rarely seem to get crippled in any way regardless of all the horrendous injuries they sustain due to our failure to dodge all the pointy stuff enemies throw at us. And yes, I am well aware there are games who do this and I applaud them for it ^^

On-topic though, I don't normally feel out of touch with gaming jargon (although it does happen every now and then) due to me following a study in gaming architecture and design as an aspiring modeller and me hanging out with hardcore gamers virtually non-stop.

I got the INFERNO DIVVVIIIIDAHHHH!!!! Meme in BlazBlue though... All too quickly.

[sub]Fucking Rags[/sub]
Don't forget all the Ice Car memes. There are actually a lot of memes about BlazBlue for some reason. Some of the best are the character flowcharts like this one:

OT: Usually if something like that goes over my head I look it up right away, so I am not kept in the dark all that long.
Hey, what kind of car does Jin drive?

A Nissan

[sub]ba-dum-tish[/sub]

Platinum's stage has the fabled Hype Dog barking on in the background, making it my third favourite stage in the game next to Hazama and Makoto's stages (Makoto's is best obviously.) Not that I see many Platinums online though. It's a load of Tagers, Jins and Ragnas, all spread out in a line with an occasional break with a Lambda or fucking Hakumen.

Then I end up with a Hazama vs Hazama mirror match and my god are they BROKEN. CHAINS EVERYWHERE! WHERE THE HELL ARE WE GOING?!

Name a game, and there's a large chance I haven't played it. As such, I do not understand the majority of the completely unfunny pieces of rubbish that gets passed off as 'memes' and I likely never will.
