I'm pretty sure he's evil, one way or another.

Isn't the G-man only called that because the fans thought of it?
I might be wrong since I've only heard this and not actually seen it but I think in the first half-life's credits it had the voice actor then his name G-man. could be wrong though
The first Half-Life's credits was a list of names with no jobs attached, I believe. Either way, the name comes from the name of the model in the modding kit, the same as Barney's. He has never been referred to as the G-Man in the games, although his voice credit from Half-Life 2 on does refer to him this way.

I?m surprised there is so much debate as to why he is called G man. It seems a bit obvious that nameless Government agents we associate with a suit and not a face are commonly referred to as G Men (as in government men) as already stated in this thread. Its not his REAL name it?s a title for lack thereof.

I don't want to solve the mystery of the G-Man. What makes him such a popular character is his obscurity, vagueness, and trans-human nature. To demystify that is not in my interests as far as the game's story goes.
I'm going to go with that. I enjoy having the mysterious figure, all the more intriguing.

I support the Gordon Freeman is G-man theory. Green eyes, similar cheek bones, and Gordon starts with G. I hope at the end of the series that we get to hear Gordon Freeman speak, and it will be with the same speech impediment that the G-man has.
That would blow my mind out of the world.

Bah, on your theory, bah!... ;)

I'm sure I've posted this before, but hey. The G-Man is actually...
Geoff Freeman, Gordon's evil twin brother. They were separated at birth; Geoff went to Xen whereas Gordon went to Earth. So now you know. The truth is finally out.
My god, its so obvious now, it has to be true! ;)

I like the idea of him being a one of being, who has chosen to help a side he feels sympathetic for, more as a play thing than anything else.

I;m going to go with G-Man and GOrdan being the same person, just because they look so damn similar. Or maybe he is his father.

Nah, I think he's on the good side. He just has certain "restrictions".

No don't worry. I was simply following in the footsteps of yahtzee by mocking all of the fanboys out there who rave on and on!

Anyone who would rather "quell" criticisms than ignore them is not a good guy, even if he's fighting for the side we're cheering for.

I personally don't want to know. What's cool about Gman is you don't know what/who the fuck he is.

One thing I will say though, if Gman turns out to be Gordon from the future, that will really, really piss me off. It would be such a stupid, cheesy plot twist that I'd just stop playing.

I hope that G-Man is one of the Valve employees that is inside the game, controlling what's going on, in the same sense that we control Freeman. Total breaking the 4th wall, I might add

I always kind of thought of him as my own personal angel. He watches your back, and nobody else seems to notice him.

Lolwut if Gordon told somebody about G-dog?
