I played VII. People say VIII is the best, then they say X is the best, then XII is the best... I played VII, and that was great. Why play anything else? VII blew my mind, took me on a trip, and then let me finish it. I had my FINAL Fantasy with VII. Someone else had their FINAL with VII, X, and/or XII. Some even had their FINAL with numero uno. Well they can have fun with that. I had fun with my VII.

It's a matter of perspective. I played VII and I don't want to play another. SIMPLE AS THAT.

Nope, my first was 7, and I aquired them in ascending order from there (Skipping 11. 7 is my least liked.

Ranked:
1: FFX
2: FFIX
3: FFVIII
4: FFXIII
5: FFXII
6: FFX-2
7: FFVII

I've played and finished all except 12 - waiting for the chance to devote the right amount of time to it. The first I played was 7, the first they bothered releasing in Europe (for younsters and those outside Europe, we used to get shat on far more than we do now with release dates and prices - and before the internet was what it is now, imports were less available).

Not sure what my number one is, but the best 3 for me were 4, 6 and 9. The worst was 8, still don't know how the 2 main nob-head characters fell in love and the remaining cast members were the most shallow I've seen in a JRPG - quite an achievement considering the competition.

First Final Fantasy game I played was number 8, and it was my favourite until I played 12. I absolutely love 12.

ehh i can see what you mean but thats just a disproven stereotype of such

my first played was ff7, as a 7 year old i had a semi tough time getting through the game getting everything with no guide, but i did enjoy it alot

my favorite though? ff dissidia, which is a fucking beast ass game, i can't get enough of it

i still need to finish ff9 tho..my guys are somewhere around level 21 i think but i just haven't had time to sit down and enjoy a good 5 hour sitting of final fantasy, i find the games are too hard to play in micro sittings.

I disagree. The "rose-tinted glasses" myth is pile of bullshit that plagues the gaming community.

My first FF was 8, followed by 7, but I not particularly fond of either of them. However I love (love!) 12, and really like 1 (interestingly enough, these two are probably the most western minded of the series, in terms of gameplay).

False. The first Final Fantasy I played was VII, but I think it's the most overrated and overdone of the series. My personal favourite is VI.
well he basically took the words out of my mough

First FF I played was Final Fantasy: Legend II for the gameboy. In the UK we didn't get access to FFI, FFIV or FFVI like the US audiences so we only had the gameboy games to toy with. The first proper title of the series was FFVII for us limeys. I loved it dearly. FFVIII I loved more. FFIX I love the most. Never has a game captured me in so many lights as the ninth installment. The comic relief, the music, the minigames, the sidequests and the plot... the never ending horrendous tale of Princess Garnet.

Seriously, list everything in the plot that happens to her. Who (or what) her lover is, who (or what) her lover's brother is, what happened to her mothers (foster and biological), what happened to her kingdom and neighbouring cities... it's atrocious what those characters go through. Pure epic. If you haven't played it then what the hell are you doing!?

I bloody hope not, there are gonna be a bunch of idiots clinging to FFXIII as though it is a classic in 10 years if thats true.

However I personally happen to fall in line with your theory, first played was FFVII and is easily my favourite. Then again it also got me into gaming as a hobby and made me want to appreciate games more rather than just playing them to pass time and forgetting about them when I am done... thats not gaming, thats called "a coma". After VII I like X, largely due to Blitzball.

I played X first, then 1/2/4/X-2/7/3/12 I will honestly say that 3 is by far my favorite. FFXI was in there multiple times, but I don't include it as a FF title.

I think for the majority it's true but I played FFVIII first and it was my favourite until I played every numbered Final Fantasy and now I have no favourites but I do hate FFXII and FFXIV and I'm not a big fan of FFXIII. I find that the majority of FF stories are great and that's what I love about the series, but since the release of FFXII the series took a nose dive it's never going to recover from.

I've more or less played them in chronological order, so that theory is false like many have shown. My favorites are 6,7, Tactics, Crisis Core, and Dissidia; but my first were 1 and 2.

That "your first FF" theory seems more applicable to the 7 and up crowd as that seems more common, but for us old timers who have played it since it's beginning, our first is hardly our favorites.

My favorite is still FFIV, though I've played nearly every game I can get my hands on that's even related to the series. Started with the first, but it's never held any kind of special place to me.

But to your credit, a number of games within a series do tend to be memorable when they're firsts for a player. Adding credit to your theory, however, is games marketing. A well-designed game cover can tell a decent amount about the game's themes which might resonate with a player looking to buy a game. Word of mouth or previewing game content can also lead a player to pick a game they think they'll enjoy, which in many cases may be a player's first experience with a series.
