And that is where my brain completely melted. The kids get naked in the changing room, why should the adults be any exception? And being naked in a changing room is fairly normal, actually finding it off putting is more strange than not finding it normal.

I went swimming yesterday and in the changing room there were loads of blokes walking around naked. It doesn't bother me that they are doing that but, as it was a Sunday, there were a number of children in there too, around 7 years old or so, and the blokes that were walking around naked had nothing to do with the kids (E.G wasn't a parent). Someone also said that there was a woman in the ladies changing room walking around naked while a young lad was in there.

A public changing room is an appropriate place to be naked. People go in there to be naked at some point. There's a collective understanding that when you open a changing room door, people may occupy a distribution point in which they currently are not wearing clothes. Your back garden is in full view of people and in a place where nakedness is not expected. It's usually expected that you will take your daughter/son into a changing room to change with you if they're young, because they're being exposed to NON-SEXUALISED nakedness, and under their parent/guardian's supervision.

If you don't want to be naked or are morally outraged by what you possess or what other people around you may/may not have AVOID those places or get your own damn pool.

I really don't see how this has any discussion value, you're either offended by people being naked near you, or you aren't.

Sorry, but can the topicstarter explain to me how you can change to your swimwear, if you can't be naked in a changing room?
Not the OP, but there is always getting into togs before going to the pool, and getting changed when you get home. Although that seems rather dumb considering there are changing rooms designed for changing clothes after swimming, what with the maybe want of doing something after swimming.

Nudity is a terrible and unnatural thing that children should not be exposed to.
Breasts and penises are filthy lies and young ones are so impressionable. What if they get it into their heads that everyone has genitals.

What if one saw a bum and realised everybody poops.
I am 100% in agreement with this (sarcastic) post. The idea that our bodies are inherently disgusting or morally filthy is ridiculous, and is largely only an American viewpoint.
Oh piss off it is. That ideal started largely during the Angelican movement of England, when not even paintings of naked women were appropriate. Martin Luther's Prodastent Reformation was also a large factor. Whatever we have is just leftovers from that era. Its legal in about half our states to walk around completely naked, as long as it isn't in a sexual connotation. Stop attributing everything bad in the world to America. Sheesh.

I fucking live in America; i was born and raised here. Every European i know has a much more relaxed view of nudity. I suppose the UK would be an exception, but otherwise my assertion stands.

I'm not saying this as "American bashing", i'm saying it because it is mostly an American viewpoint, and a decidedly stupid one at that. It doesn't matter that it started in the UK; what matters is that the US is one of the few places (but not only) that view is still espoused by the majority.

This is just dripping with Americanism. Especially that person who seems offended that ugly people get changed too.

*EDIT*
Yeah, I know it's a stereotype. So is everything else in this thread.

I think there should be a separate changing rooms, one for those who want to be nude and the other for those who don't.
This, keep it to yourself if that is what the sign says. You are free otherwise.

And OP: You would be arrested for being nude in your own garden? WTF?! and where the hell do you live? If I wanted to have an orgy in my garden, I'm sure there would be no grounds for arrest, even if all the children in the suburb saw. Your garden, you can walk around naked, why is the child looking over your wall?

I don't see anything wrong with nudity. I mean it?s where we started from square one. Children are going to see it eventually; the earlier on the more time they have to adept and mature to it.

We live in a culture where it is seen as disrespectful. But other cultures have women and men walking around borderline naked (these are mostly little rainforest cultures) and the kids are happy as Larry and grow up as their parents do. I guess it's a question of, do you want your kid to scorn the world for having the audacity to be naked, accept everyone has free will or maybe live in fear of them thinking that might be a good idea.

Whatever, just wash your hands.
I say we go one step further, I say any woman who doest cover up during child birth be put in jail for indecent exposure to a child, likewise unless the child is born in a 3 piece suit the woman must be arrested for child pornography

People have too many hang-ups about nudity, in my humble opinion. And the only places you're going to get arrested for being naked in your garden are crazed fundamentalist hell-holes, no matter who sees you. All in all everyone has a body and we shouldn't accept it when people tell us it's something dirty that has to be hidden away.

Although i agree with everyone here who is saying we shouldn't be so concerned about kids seeing nakedness in changerooms, I can't help but feel a little symapthy for the OP.

He's clearly talkng about those one or two people(for me it's women as i am a woman, but i'm sure men do it too) that seem to be in every change room everywhere. You know the ones, more than just geting changed, they seem to use the fact that everyone is getting changed to be as naked as possible for as long as possible.

Is it normal for people to be naked in a public change room? - Yes.
Is it normal for someone to wander around and have conversations and generally act as though they are in thier own living rooms while remaining naked? - NO.
Are we as a society too hung up about naked bodies? - Yes, but that still doesn't make a changeroom = a nudist colony.

I don't see it as an issue for kids at all, but for everyone. Once you have taken your wet/sweaty clothes off and had your shower, IT IS TIME TO PUT YOUR CLOTHES BACK ON! I don't care if you have to get naked to do what you need to do, but there is a point where you have crossed the line between getting changed and showing off. I'm not sure exactly where the line is, but if you are standing naked in front of me for no other reason than conversation, you have officially crossed it.

I remember when I was like, 8, and I saw some old guy's dick in the changing rooms.
Bad times. Very bad times.

I don't see a problem with plain nudity. I mean, if there was touching or leering or something inappropriate occurring in conjunction with the nudity that would be different, but just being naked around children isn't something I see myself getting in a twist about. Especially at a pool or changing room or place where one might expect some nudity.

You need to get out of your Bible Concentration Camp more often, brah. This topic is silly. It's a public changing room, kids dont die or turn into murderous crazy people just because they accidently see someone genitalia or gods forbid, their nipples!

I went to the naked beach a couple days ago.

Wreck Beach, beautiful place. The cliffs going down that surround it are green, the sand is white, and the ocean around is endless and beautiful, with just an island in the distance for company. Floatwood everywhere (why it's called Wreck)... and just a great place to hang out.

Hundreds of people were naked.

There were penises EVERYWHERE, and BOOBS, and oh my god I even saw more than a few butt cracks!

And there were children building sand castles, all naked too.

And you know what I thought?

'Good thing I brought good sunscreen.'

So, regarding the OP... grow the fuck up. You're in a place where nudity is acceptable. There's no law against being social in a public place. OH GOD BUT WHAT ABOUT THE CHILDREN!?! They ain't your kids. Obviously, their parents have absolutely NO PROBLEM with this. The kids have NO PROBLEM with this.

Go invest your own spawn with your neuroses and unnatural hangups.
