It's only PARTS of Africa that have these problems in the first place, namely the ones who change their government and NAME every now and then. (I'm looking at YOU, Zaire/'The Congo'.) Go down to South Africa and things aren't so bad. I had a friend down there whose greatest complaint was his internet connection, and not starvation.

Adobe would probably be good for them, if you want to have them situated in one place.

And yeah, maybe a small(-ish) solar generator. Other then that though, there's really not alot of power you need for a small farming community. Cept man power.

I;d actually debate on Medicine. You figure Africans have how many kids cause tehy figure a few will die in accidents, war, and disease. If you actually helped cure Africans that are ill, there'd be a big population boom that I dont think could be helpful to Africans.

My mother told me that once.

I gave her a stamp and a box.

I was beaten.

From then on it was "Eat your damn food or you can starve". That worked better than the guilt trip.
I always tell them i can not throw that far. I will remember yours though.

I thought this was going to be about John Stewarts statement last monday, the one where the news anchor said "teachers in Wisconsin are making 90,000 dollars a year, that sounds good to a person with out a job" then John said "...you know, they also have a hot meal every morning, I'll bet some staving people would like a piece of that action, eh?" Not word for word, but you know.

On topic:

"I don't even know how to use an AK-47."

"There are kids in Africa who can use an AK-47."

It's basically a crutch to lay down the guilt, without actually thinking of anything relevant.

Just in case there is someone here interested in being productive rather than just another hooting dick-hole... here are some links to places where you can help.

Samaritan's purse [http://www.samaritanspurse.org/]
Samaritan's purse has hundreds of ways to donate to their ongoing outreach programs in all corners of the world. From helping japan, to feeding children, to outreach to war-torn parts of Africa.

Childfund [http://www.childfund.org/]
This is the group I mentioned above, they feed poor children around the world, and provide other essential needs as well as a western based education. That means the kids can grow up to be productive members of a society and have options other than crime when they grow up.

And my personal favorite...
Operation Christmas Child [http://www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/OCC/]
Every year in the fall Samaritan's Purse calls out to churches around the world for shoe boxes full of small presents: Barbie, gum, drawing paper, MOTHERFUCKING SHOES, legos, a yo-yo... little things like that. They then pack them up and ship them by the millions to the developing world. Yes its a Christian thing. Yes I'm sure people will call me out for being religious and trying to indoctrinate kids... but if you look at the kids who get one of these gifts, a kid who's never know what a present is... then you'll see why they do it.

I don't care if you actually click the links, hell I half expect to see a dozen people replying to this calling me a religious zealot. But if anyone dose actually motherfucking help, then it was worth typing this.

It's a really sloppy argument. Especially when someone has a real problem not just, "mum took away my Jersey Shore DVds! FML, I hate my life!"
You can't take away anyone's right to complain about a problem they might have, even if someone down the life if worse off.

The fact that there are starving children in Africa seems pretty irrelevant when judging the quality of a meal or a product.

I usually just comment that the guilt should be laid on that child's parents whose thoughts for some reason go something along these lines: "Well, we're living a miserable life in an environment that can't really sustain us. I know! Let's have a kid who can be miserable alongside us and be plagued by malnutrition, disease, and possibly starve to death!! What a great idea!"

I have a hard time feeling guilty about that.

It's a good thing to think about when people are bitching about their country or how hard their life is, but it's a stupid thing to preach about

"I'm sorry, but I don't care... I've got my own problems to worry about. I'll tell ya what, though... Why not you fly on over and use your kindness to feed them? As for the rest of the continent, Africa's like Mexico, but way more diseases and corrupt warlords live in Africa...
Along with Lions, tigers, and other dangerous animals... Tell Ikemefuna in the Whachutu tribe to go and hunt one of thos things... If he comes back, he's not only helped out, but has WAY better chances with women... AND THAT'S HOW THINGS WORK IN AFRICA!!!"
I have to say, I agree.
I can agree that there are a LOT of worse off people than me out in the world. I'll be first to admit I have a pretty cushy life. I'm not denying that. The problem I have with the topic arguement is, "Well what exactly am I supposed to do about it right now?"
It's not like I don't have a heart. I'm not overly generous, but I'm not exactly able to mail off my leftovers.
I disagree with hunting lions and tigers (and bears, oh my!) but only because I'm particularly fond of felines in general. I wouldn't want to see the mighty tiger hunted into extinction in the wild like humans have done to so many other species...

My mom used to say that when I didn't want to eat the dinner she made. I replied with "here, take it to them, I don't want it". Ha! That left her speechless.

That line scarred me growing up.

Mother used to tell me there were starving people living 'over there' who got nothing to eat and such. My mind was filled with visions of the land beyond the heathland (near where we live) where the fields were filled with children worn down to the bone, dying in the sun and eaten by crows...

I'm sure it didn't affect me in t(killthewhores)he lightest.

Sucks to be them. That's what I say. I'm not going to feel guilty for a happenstance.

Well yea, It's a fallacy to bring up something that doesn't have anything to do with the argument as a response, not sure how this is news...
