There was this first person fighter on xbox called breakdown...

Combat was a little clunky, but once you get good you feel like a badass. And the story is one of the most gratifying that I have ever experienced. It's a damn shame that they never made the sequel.
GAWDDAMN YES! Somone one else remembers this game. I loved it! The mix of fsp and first person fighter made for some interesting gameplay. The fighting controls were a bit clunky feeling, but like you said once you got used to them the it was badass. I loved the first person perspective combined with the almost Streetfighter type moves. Nothing was cooler than first person perspective as you did a charging spin kick to your opponent.

It would be great if they would reboot this game or make a sequel. This was one of my favorite Xbox games, hell one of my favorite games ever. The immersion factor was great.

The S.T.A.L.K.E.R. series, even though most people I've met who've played it claims it be too buggy.
That, and the most recent Alone in the Dark. Just like it for some reason.
STALKER has come to be one of the biggest cult classics in videogames in recent years. There's a reason why it's got such a dedicated group of modders and fans.
I found it too buggy to play but then I found a mod that fixed pretty much everything, Clear Sky complete, i think it's called.

OP Other M, stupid story but loved the gameplay

I enjoyed that game, just wish I could find a copy of Undying, too.
Undying is amazing. Personal experience: Much better than Jericho.

*ahem* Despite many people saying the Dragon Age 2 is boring, I found it quite enjoyable.

Brink is fantastic. Yeah the online has problems but once those gets sorted out if you like objective fps's you should at the very least give it a try. Other than that Resident Evil outbreak file 1&2. RE file 2 is my second favorite multiplayer game of all time and it was amazing when the online was still going. 4 player coop in different settings that were infinitely replayable with 5 difficulty settings and the virus gauge. Showdown mode where you could go up against nothing but a ton of bosses back to back. I could beat a zombie to death with a pipe.. I miss that game...

Well the most controversial ones I've liked (even loved) have been Dragon age 2 and Mirrors edge, and I fail to see what peoples problems with them are :/ I also really liked Alpha protocol, despite it being made by Obsidian and being a little clunky :/
I really liked Alpha Protocol too, but I'm curious, why is it being made by Obsidian a bad thing?

Mount and Blade.
Who the hell "took a dump" on Mount and Blade? I've never played it myself but practically everyone I've heard mention it has said it was wonderful.

Well the games brilliant in a way, thats why its on the list but it has graphics on the same quality of the Original Half Life (yet it was released 10 years later) there's no story, about 4 lines of dialogue, the game is horrifically unbalanced and unbelievably punishing to new players...

But its a lot a lot of fun ;) and Knowing that every arrow that whizzes past your ear could insta kill you if it hit, potentially putting you back to square one.. it really ramps up the tension.
I've never heard anyone else saying that. Seriously, it's a critical darling and everyone I've talked to loves it, so when has it been "shit on"?

Sonic Unleashed- Flawed but still fun as heck. (Actually, most 3D Sonic games in general were really fun, yet most people seem to hate Sonic games)
You may want to watch this [http://lparchive.org/Sonic-The-Hedgehog-2006/]. The funny thing is, you can hear them slowly losing their sanity throughout the LP.

Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons Of Liberty

I know, I know, the bad reception is mainly from players due to the character change, however that has still stained the games reputation.....

I believe that this game is literally a work art.....so much consideration went into the psychology of it all...so much effort went into trying to TALK to the player, and giving a message to them through the game.....(something that is only NOW being regarded and used so that we can shorten the gap between games and art)

but as you know people can't concentrate for 5 seconds without having boobies flashed at them or without seeing their big macho hero on the T.V screen......

Very under-rated and a game much before its time...if u have it, play it again and read between the lines (find the symbolism). If u dont, BUY IT!

LOL sorry bout the rant :p ahem...moving on......probably another game I enjoyed was

snip
MGS2 was actually my first and only MGS game (since it's the only one they ported to the Xbox), and I loved it too. Fun fact: some universities actually use MGS2 to teach post-modernism and meme theory.
THANK U! someone that understands....MGS2 was actually my first PS2 game (and in addition the only game I took seriously....cause I was old enough to appreciatte games more) It still remains till this day as my favourite game of all time, and I'm so glad to hear from another lover of the game....lol cause mostly I just hear people say "I didn't like it cause Raiden was gay" *rolls eyes :)...anyway, thanks for uni fun fact, I honestly can't believe that! :D

Bionic Commando.

The 2008 3rd-person, shooty-gunny reboot of the series.

Man, that game is balls-to-the-wall and awesome.

Not true, Two Worlds is a sick game, me and my friends still play the multiplayer now. So yeah, that and Alpha Protocol are my additions to the thread.

Quake 4 and Quake Wars, both games were very fun and well polished, yet received poor reviews and fanboys hated them.

I really like Dawn of War 2 even though a lot of other fans of the Dawn of War series hated it
wait... there is hate for Dawn of war 2 by DOW fans? holy shit i find that hard to believe. i absolutely loved those games. all of them. beat the originals 3 times each (except soulstorm, just seemed like it was more of the same, so i didnt buy it). and Dawn of war 2 was just fantastic. nice and open, good chars, decent voicework, solid gameplay etc...
any idea why the old timers hated it? i would like to know

same with force unleashed. yeah the story sucked, but it was really damn fun.
A lot of people didn't like that they got away from base building, collecting requisition, and that you couldn't build your forces up. The multiplayer in the first DOW2 was also limited because of the microsoft live thing, so it was hard to find opponents to do the base building game play. Their final argument is that they hated being confined to just space marines and GW and Relic were shoving them down our throats to make a quick buck. Honestly I loved not base building and focusing more on tactics.

I'm not joking about this, Shaq-Fu.

I haven't played it in a really long time so my standards now may be different. But I played it all the time as a kid.

LoK: Blood Omen 2. Own it for two different platforms.

I also enjoyed Other M, although I played intentionally not using the God-mode sense-move-dodge thing.

I absolutely agree. Brilliant, brilliant ending, not so much the concept (it's been done before) but the execution.

Deadly Premonition, I imported that bastard from Japan and loved it, right Zach?

Saboteur, I know some parts of that game were terrible, but I loved them, and I thought the game was very beautiful.

Let me know if you've played this one, but "Red Ninja: End of Honor".

It's a shame it was a low budget game. If they ironed out the glitches, refined the combat a bit, as well as the boss battles, it could have been a franchise.
