Kane And Lynch: Dead Men. A lot of things people criticised it for, I really enjoyed (e.g. the swearing, the gun recoil and the general plot), not to mention I see so much potential in the multi-player mode.

I also enjoyed Kane and Lynch.

Haze was a terribly made game, but it was fun to play through it for the sheer number of unintentionally funny moments(mainly due to the AI and dialog).

Well the most controversial ones I've liked (even loved) have been Dragon age 2 and Mirrors edge, and I fail to see what peoples problems with them are :/ I also really liked Alpha protocol, despite it being made by Obsidian and being a little clunky :/

I really liked Alpha Protocol too, but I'm curious, why is it being made by Obsidian a bad thing?

Mount and Blade.

Who the hell "took a dump" on Mount and Blade? I've never played it myself but practically everyone I've heard mention it has said it was wonderful.

Well the games brilliant in a way, thats why its on the list but it has graphics on the same quality of the Original Half Life (yet it was released 10 years later) there's no story, about 4 lines of dialogue, the game is horrifically unbalanced and unbelievably punishing to new players...

But its a lot a lot of fun and Knowing that every arrow that whizzes past your ear could insta kill you if it hit, potentially putting you back to square one.. it really ramps up the tension.

I've never heard anyone else saying that. Seriously, it's a critical darling and everyone I've talked to loves it, so when has it been "shit on"?

Sonic Unleashed- Flawed but still fun as heck. (Actually, most 3D Sonic games in general were really fun, yet most people seem to hate Sonic games)

You may want to watch this [http://lparchive.org/Sonic-The-Hedgehog-2006/]. The funny thing is, you can hear them slowly losing their sanity throughout the LP.

I really liked the PoP reboot.

I did too. Ah well.

Metal Gear Solid 2 Sons Of Liberty

I know, I know, the bad reception is mainly from players due to the character change, however that has still stained the games reputation.....

I believe that this game is literally a work art.....so much consideration went into the psychology of it all...so much effort went into trying to TALK to the player, and giving a message to them through the game.....(something that is only NOW being regarded and used so that we can shorten the gap between games and art)

but as you know people can't concentrate for 5 seconds without having boobies flashed at them or without seeing their big macho hero on the T.V screen......

Very under-rated and a game much before its time...if u have it, play it again and read between the lines (find the symbolism). If u dont, BUY IT!

MGS2 was actually my first and only MGS game (since it's the only one they ported to the Xbox), and I loved it too. Fun fact: some universities actually use MGS2 to teach post-modernism and meme theory.

Final Fantasy XII. It may not have very deep characters and a deep plot, but it least it doesn't have whiny crybaby characters and a ridiculously convoluted plot like the other modern FF games. I also enjoy the battle system and even the license board.
It's a very nice game.

I'm not really a hardcore FF fan (OK, maybe a little), and I really can't stand the frustratingly limiting Paradigm system, but for whatever reason I can't put it down.

I also enjoyed the Prince of Persia reboot, FF 11 (what can I say, I'm a glutton for punishment), and Ninety Nine Nights.

wait... there is hate for Dawn of war 2 by DOW fans? holy shit i find that hard to believe. i absolutely loved those games. all of them. beat the originals 3 times each (except soulstorm, just seemed like it was more of the same, so i didnt buy it). and Dawn of war 2 was just fantastic. nice and open, good chars, decent voicework, solid gameplay etc...
any idea why the old timers hated it? i would like to know

same with force unleashed. yeah the story sucked, but it was really damn fun.

as for me, i am having a bit of a hard time remembering. haven't gotten many crappy *new* releases in the last couple years (money thing mostly), but i heard a lot of people disliked brutal legend, and i found it quite fun. albeit i would have liked it if it wasn't an rts in disguise, but rather had more small squad focused missions, or just you and one companion missions, or solo for that matter, it was still damn fun and funny.

and i also enjoyed dynasty warriors. twas quite fun to just blast through ranks of guys.

besides that, all i can think of are some classics i really liked but in retrospect were really crappy, like starfox adventures (well, that is debatable, as i never beat it because i got 2/3 through then my bro deleted my save so he could play madden whatever the fuck the year was), army men rts, sarge's heroes, sarge's war, loved em all. luigi's mansion, i dont know people's opinions on that, but i had a lot of fun with it.

oh, and battlestations: midway, game had solid gameplay but nothing else, and ill be damned if i dont love that game

Hell tbh I pretty much love any mech game regardless of how bad it is.

Please tell me this love does not extend to Front Mission: Evolved? That was a terribad mech game.

As for me, I really do enjoy my extended play times with Space Empires V.

That and Saboteur, I thought it was really good.

To me it was a tad unfinished, but still fun.

I am one of the only Pokemon fans I know who liked Pokemon Explorers of Darkness/Time. They were both fun games.

I also LOVED Dragon Age 2.

Brink, as it seems to be generally disliked so far, there are some who love it, and I'm one of them.

Many people said there was something very wrong with Uru (plus, its reception was very meh. Many Myst fans don't realize it exists).

Damned if I can figure out what, its by far my favorite Myst game - even better than Riven.

I love it too.

Riven still wins out for me, but Uru (and Uru Live) is a close second. I think people just hated that it was in realtime 3D and third person.

My answer: FFXI. Although to be fair, the people who hate it are people who never played it. (And those who picked it up after playing a WoW-era MMO first.)

I can maybe shed some light here.

I liked DoW II, but I LOVED the original. The problem was that it went from an RTS, to a squad-based tactical game. You lost the big battles from the original that were oh-so-much-fun and so reflective of the source material, and instead got games on a Kill Team level, to use a tabletop analogy. It's a matter of scale. 40K is at its best when there are huge battles around. DoW II was good, but I expected more.
